POLITICAL DYNAMICS AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS OF INDONESIA-AUSTRALIA BORDER MANAGEMENT
This study offers a political science analysis of border management policies in Indonesia and Australia, focusing on security, community welfare, and international relations. Indonesia adopts a development-oriented approach aimed at enhancing infrastructure and economic access in border areas, promoting national integration but facing coordination and surveillance challenges. Australia, in contrast, implements a security-driven approach, particularly through Operation Sovereign Borders, effectively preventing illegal immigration yet criticized for its stringent, less humanitarian stance. Employing qualitative methods, including literature review and online media analysis, this study examines the political implications and geopolitical context of each policy. Findings suggest that Indonesia could enhance border security by integrating advanced technology, while Australia might benefit from a more cooperative, humanitarian approach to improve regional relations. This analysis contributes to political science discussions on border governance, proposing a balanced model that addresses both security and welfare in managing national borders
E-GOVERNMENT UTILIZATION AND THE POLITICAL LOGIC OF NETWORK GOVERNANCE IN INDONESIA’S LOCAL ADMINISTRATION
This article investigates the utilization of E-Government applications within the framework of network governance in Indonesia’s local administration. Drawing on both qualitative and quantitative methods, this study captures public perceptions of electronic information-based government services and explores the political and institutional dynamics underlying their implementation. Data were collected through questionnaires, document analysis, interviews, and focus group discussions (FGDs) with purposively selected informants, including leaders and staff from local government institutions. The findings demonstrate that e-government platforms enhance service efficiency, transparency, and public satisfaction. Moreover, these applications promote openness in financial management and intra-organizational communication, contributing to greater trust and comfort among citizens. Framed within the theory of network governance, the study reveals how digital service delivery is not merely a technical process but a political one—shaped by inter-institutional collaboration, administrative adaptability, and the evolving role of the state in a digitally mediated environment. These insights affirm the growing necessity of integrating digital infrastructure with political and organizational readiness to achieve effective and sustainable governance in the digital age
DECONSTRUCTING THE THREAT OF TECHNOLOGY: A CRITIQUE OF SURVEILLANCE CAPITALISM AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR E-DEMOCRACY
This study critiques the phenomenon of surveillance capitalism in the digital era, focusing on its impact on digital democracy or e-democracy in Indonesia. Drawing from Shoshana Zuboff’s framework, surveillance capitalism leverages human behavioural data as raw material for commercial predictions, threatening privacy, fostering polarization, and weakening the digital public sphere. Using a qualitative literature-based approach and semi-structured interviews with experts and practitioners, the research validates its findings through data triangulation across journal articles, policy reports, and interview insights. The results indicate that social media algorithms contribute to the spread of disinformation, political polarization, and the manipulation of public opinion. For instance, during the 2024 elections in Indonesia, algorithms were found to amplify echo chambers, reduce exposure to diverse perspectives, and promote sensational content. The study concludes that technology’s negative impacts are shaped by the economic structures and designs underlying its use, underscoring the need for regulatory frameworks and public awareness to address these challenges
IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ELECTRONIC PARKING SYSTEM POLICY IN BANDUNG: RESPONSE TO PUBLIC DEMAND
Implementation Implementation of Electronic Parking System Policy in Bandung: Response to Public Demand This study examines the application of strategic planning in managing the electronic parking system in Bandung, focusing on the influence of local political dynamics on policy implementation. A qualitative approach and case study method were used to analyze strategic planning and political dynamics in the context of the electronic parking system. Primary data was collected through in-depth interviews and field observations, while secondary data was sourced from media documentation and previous research. The findings reveal that the strategic planning of the electronic parking system aims to improve urban mobility and optimize parking space utilization. However, challenges such as resource limitations and the influence of local political dynamics hinder effective implementation. Based on the Powercube theory, which includes the dimensions of level, space, and form, this study emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive approach to strategic planning. Local political dynamics significantly impact organizational capacity, particularly in terms of policy stability and resource allocation. Dependence on certain political actors and the lack of consensus among stakeholders weaken the effectiveness of policy implementation. Local governments, parking attendants, and public users play key roles in the success of this system’s management. This study highlights the importance of cross-stakeholder collaboration to enhance traffic management, create sustainable parking solutions, and improve urban quality of life. Effective coordination is required to address political and operational challenges in implementing the electronic parking system in Bandung
