Proceedings of the Rhine Province Assembly in Karl Marx’s articles as a source of knowledge about political and legal debates in the mid-nineteenth century. Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs|Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs Band 2 / 2020|
Research on the history of democracy and the rule of law also includes a history of debates on censorship and freedom of speech. The subject of the research paper is to analyze the issues raised by Karl Marx, who as a young journalist reported on the proceedings of the Sixth Rhine Province Assembly. In the articles published in the “Rheinische Zeitung” Marx touched upon several fundamental issues: criticism of censorship, especially the ban on publishing the Assembly proceedings, freedom of the press and press law. Interesting are also considerations about the status of the Rhine Province Assembly in the socio‐political order. This research paper shows that Marx’s articles published in the “Rheinische Zeitung” not only allow for getting to know his views, but also are a valuable source of historical knowledge about the political debates of those times

„Judenrein“? Zum Antisemitismus an der Wiener Rechtsund Staatswissenschaftlichen Fakultät vor 1938. Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs|Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs Band 1 / 2021|
The article deals primarily with anti‐Semitism at the University of Vienna in the 19th and 20th centuries, especiallyat the Faculty of Law and State. It also gives an overview on the different methods that were used to exclude specificgroups of persons from university studies or academic employment. Although Jews were admitted to the Universityof Vienna in the late 18th century, they faced many difficulties – legal as well as factual ones – if they wanted topursue an academic career. Although the legal obstacles were abolished at the end of the 19th century, Jewish scholars’chances to obtain a professorship were small due to the rising anti‐Semitism at the University of Vienna. Theconsequences of the anti‐Semitic atmosphere and schemes are exemplified by the cases of Hans Kelsen and StephanBrassloff, among others
Battle Scenes from the Temple of Thutmose I in Qurna. Ägypten und Levante|Ägypten und Levante XXXI 31|
A set of 16 block fragments can be distinguished amongst the reliefs from the temple of Thutmose I in Qurna, which was built by Hatshepsut for her father. The blocks are decorated with representations of at least two battle scenes with chariots. However, battle scenes with chariots are very rare in this period and known exclusively from small sets of blocks. This article presents a detailed account of the material in question and discusses its reconstruction and meaning
Multidimensional Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis. GI_Forum|GI_Forum 2021, Volume 2|
The assessment of spatial autocorrelation is one of the primary tasks in geographical data analysis. Identifying and examining deviations from the expected autocorrelation is key to gaining a thorough understanding of the phenomenon under investigation. Traditional measures of geospatial sciences focus on the detection of spatial clusters or spatial heteroscedasticity, often in low-dimensional data. However, phenomena are often multidimensional and interdependent – both with and without their spatial dependency – and the toolbox of geospatial sciences is not yet well developed in this regard. The present study aims to contribute to this toolbox for scientists and practitioners. The proposed approach focuses on the detection of spatial discontinuity, considering heteroscedasticity by spatially contrasting residuals from a fitted spatial error model (SEM). This contrast-enhancing technique identifies locations whose attributes differ significantly from those of the surrounding features, and with that the technique indicate spatial breaks. The approach is evaluated using agro-ecological field data to identify anomalies and was originally motivated for application in the context of precision farming. Our results enhance understanding of the underlying spatial processes of agricultural fields. The findings contribute to advanced, multidimensional, exploratory, spatial data analysis and present an alternative approach to conventional methods
