Observing Cyclists’ Mobility Patterns for better Decisions. GI_Forum|GI_Forum 2021, Volume 1|
No full textAlthough the amount of data, generated in the mobility domain, has been increasing dramatically over the past years, specific cycling-related data are still hardly ever employed as the evidence base for cycling promotion. This is due to lacking data availability and accessibility on the one hand and to the absence of frameworks for integrating data from a different source on the other hand. We, therefore, propose a Bicycle Observatory, which facilitates a continuous observation of cycling mobility and serves as decision support in the broader context of cycling promotion. In this study, we investigate the contribution of a Bicycle Observatory achieving of strategic goals in cycling promotion and summarize major requirements and recommendations for establishing a Bicycle Observatory

No full textOne of the key questions of sermon studies on medieval multilingual sermons is whether – and to what extent – multilingual preaching actually occurred. The unpublished and little-known medieval art of preaching Aurissa, composed by Jacobus de Saraponte in the 14th century, provides unique insights into this issue. This study reconstructs the original composition of the work that was unknown until now. The article argues that the treatise consisted of three parts: the main treatise Theologia est sciencia (the only part described as Aurissa in the past), an additional chapter on preaching in the chapter and a list of rhymed words grouped thematically called the Quadrangulum. The study then provides an overview of the main 33 chapters, focusing on the peculiar terminology of the treatise, especially so-called notabilitates and the ways in which they can be extracted from the thema of the sermon. This leads to the main part of the article, which discusses the advice on the use of various languages. Jacobus de Saraponte provides detailed instruction on which languages should be used in different parts of the sermon (thema, initial prayer, notabilitates, conclusion) with regard to different audiences. Most notably, he mentions the possibility of mixed sermons. This type is described especially in his detailed advice regarding preaching in the chapter. Finally, the study investigates traces in the manuscripts showing how they were used. The conclusion discusses the degree to which the advice by Jacobus de Saraponte can be taken as evidence for so-called macaronic preaching, i.e., the type of preaching where languages would be mixed seemingly randomly within sentences

No full textThe Apostolic Chancery issued numerous documents for those who were involved in Frederick III’s journey to Rome for his coronation as emperor. This study focuses on the analysis of these documents, which will be carried out based on the Repertorium Germanicum and the original documents digitalized on Monasterium.net. The study’s results deliver three important observations: first of all, the dominant opinion that Frederick III’s coronation was not accompanied by any papal indult cannot be sustained. Secondly, the fact that a high number of documents were issued by the Curia can be seen as part of the strategy put in place in order to consolidate the restored unity of the Church. Thirdly, a thorough analysis of the entries contained in the Curia’s registries makes it possible to identify the names of some hitherto unknown participants of the Romzug. Moreover, these documents provide evidence of the fact that some participants took advantage of the Romzug to obtain personal benefits concerning their own spiritual issues or the spiritual needs of their relatives and subordinates. The bishop of Gurk is a prime example. In fact, Johannes Schallermann submitted a vast collective supplication for his diocese’s members and for other people closely related to him. The analysis of the widely scattered original documents shows that not all documents issued by the Apostolic Chancery were recorded in the Curia and that there are not only many documents missing in the series of registries dating back to the time of Pope Nicholas V., but also gaps among the Registra Vaticana caused by the loss of several volumes
