Towards Sustainable Urban Car–Parking Solutions: Exploring Effects of Parking Policies Using Spatial Regression Analysis. GI_Forum|GI_Forum 2021, Volume 2|
In urban policy development and transport planning, car parking has become a crucial topic, as an ill-designed system could lead to traffic congestion, safety problems, increased air pollution and other challenges, particularly in densely populated urban areas. Adjusting parking fees has been deemed the most effective tool to control parking behaviour for selected locations, in order to attract or repel drivers. However, in order to select target areas efficiently, and before any recommendation for fee adjustment is made, an analysis of the current parking situation and the identification of variables influencing parking behaviour are needed. We present a spatial analysis targeted at parking demand and supply data gathered via road surveys by local authorities in Taipei City. The spatial analysis is complemented by a regression analysis to identify variables that influence parking behaviour. Our approach examines the relationship between potential controlling and contributing factors, and we show the influence of variables in a specific example. Our aim is to provide a starting point for future policy development and pricing adjustment at a local level. This initial framework might provide a conceptual core for wider discussion and a tool for integrating other different scenarios in the future
Bálint Hóman played an important role in the history of Hungarian education. He was Minister of Religion and Education twice between 1932 and 1942, at a time when Europe was experiencing rapid changes in many areas of life, including education. The issue of establishing schools was a significant part of his public education policy in accordance with the Christian‐national ideology of the era. In order to evaluate the plans for school building created within the framework of a central education policy, it is necessary to examine their implementation through specific local examples. In my study I am looking for an answer for how the cultural policy of Bálint Hóman appeared in Baranya County: the Baranya County Archives of the Hungarian National Archives provide good examples of the implementation but also the obstacles of establishing schools at a local level
The Ramesside Vizier Iuty from Bubastis. Ägypten und Levante|Ägypten und Levante XXXI 31|
This article presents two unpublished canopic jars of the Ramesside vizier Iuty kept in the Civico Museo Archeologico, Sezione Egizia, in the Castello Sforzesco, Milan. All other currently known elements of the prosopographical dossier of this rather enigmatic functionary are compiled and discussed. The evidence not only allows the identification of the archaeological provenance of the two canopic jars from tomb no. 1130 in the New Kingdom elite cemetery of Bubastis (Tell Basta) in the Eastern Nile Delta. It also serves as a starting point to assess the available data about this vizier in terms of his tomb, burial equipment and date in more detail. Regarding the latter, a position in the 19th Dynasty is argued for, based mainly on the typology of the vizier’s funerary equipment, including the canopic jars, several shabtis, a model scribal palette and a heart-amulet
Application of Land Surface Temperature Analysis in Urban Green Spaces: Case Studies from South Asia. GI_Forum|GI_Forum 2021, Volume 2|
This paper demonstrates the use of remote sensing in planning urban green spaces (UGSs). UGSs emerged as a popular solution to combat the effects of Urban Heat Island, especially in tropical cities. UGS projects often need to identify priority implementation areas due to limited funding for UGSs. This study includes two Asian cities, namely Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and Chittagong (Bangladesh). It is not comparative, but it has identified priority administrative areas for future UGSs in both cities. We used Landsat 8 data and the remote sensing technique Land Surface Temperature (LST) analysis using radiance, temperature brightness and emissivity. LST data were then intersected with the administrative boundaries of the study areas. The identification of priority administrative areas for UGS considered both the area coverage and the percentage of coverage in terms of maximum LST within the administrative units’ boundaries. The result found 8 and 10 administrative units to be hotspots for UGSs, for Phnom Penh and Chittagong respectively. The proposed method will be useful to both government and non-government organizations alike, especially in tropical countries.Smart cities, despite their supposed benefits, also pose challenges to inhabitants. The promised improvements of quality of life, sustainability and efficiency are accompanied by a lack of data security and privacy, and a loss of spontaneous and chaotic but enjoyable urban life

Latin and Hebrew Analogues to The Old Norse Leek Riddle. Medieval Worlds|Urban Agencies: Reframing Anatolian and Caucasian Cities (13th-14th Centuries) & Movement and Mobility in the Medieval Mediterranean: Changing Perspectives from Late Antiquity to the Long-Twelfth Century, II - Volume 14. 2021 medieval worlds Volume 14. 2021|
It has been thought that of the forty or so surviving Old Norse riddles, only two have close parallels in the wider international riddle tradition. This note shows, however, that the riddle on the leek in the probably thirteenth-century Heiðreks saga has a close parallel in one of the late antique or early medieval Bern Riddles, on garlic. Moreover, the larger conceptual structure of the leek riddle, which positions the leek as an inverted person situated between the earth and the sun, is paralleled by one of the riddles of the tenth-century Hebrew poet Dunash ben Labraṭ ha-Levi, which figures the sun and its light as a tree with its roots in the sky and its branches in the ground. The riddles of Heiðreks saga are more integrated into wider riddle culture than has been realised, and comparison of Dunash’s work with the Old Norse and Latin material helps to settle debate about the solution to Dunash’s riddle
Secularism or Catholicism? The Religious Composition of the United States to 2043
We project the religious composition of the United States to 2043, consideringfertility differences, migration, intergenerational religious transmission andconversion by 11 ethnoreligious groups. If fertility and migration trends continue,Hispanic Catholics will experience rapid growth, expanding from 10 to 18 percent ofthe population between 2003 and 2043. Protestants could decrease from 47 to 39percent over the same period, establishing Catholicism as the largest religion amongyounger age groups. Immigration drives growth among Hindus and Muslims, whilelow fertility explains decline among Jews. The religiosity of immigrants combinedwith the low fertility of nonreligious Americans results in a gradual decline, andsubsequent reversal of, secularization, with the nonreligious population shareexpected to plateau before 2043
