Realisation of Fertility Intentions in Austria and Hungary: Are Capitals Different?
The study of fertility intentions has gained importance in the literature during the last decades. Nevertheless, research focussing on their realisation is still scarce due to limited availability of longitudinal data. Although a bulk of existing studies demonstrated regional variation and rural-urban differences in fertility, respective differences in the realisation of fertility intentions have not been addressed in prior research. We address this shortcoming by analysing the realisation of short-term fertility intentions in Vienna and Budapest as opposed to the remaining parts of Austria and Hungary, using two waves of the Generations and Gender Survey (GGS). Results clearly demonstrate that those two capitals are different: Although short-term childbearing intentions are very similar in capitals and other parts of the countries, probabilities of realisation are lower in capitals. These differences in realisation are at least partly explained by individual characteristics of inhabitants. There are, however, also factors that affect realisation differently in metropolitan than in less populated regions

„Herkommen“ als staatsrechtlicher Begriff zwischen System und Praxis. Theodor Mommsen versus Wolfgang Kunkel. Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs|Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs Band 2 / 2020|
The German terminus “Herkommen” stands for prolonged practice and is used frequently in the “Römisches Staatsrecht” by Theodor Mommsen. Wolfgang Kunkel is the author of one of the most extensive revisions of Mommsen’s systematic approach. He uses the term as a key concept in his attempt to redraw the Constitutional Law of the Roman Republic and understands it clearly in the sense of Customary Law. Referring to Mommsen’s work, Kunkel states that in reading the “Römisches Staatsrecht” he never encountered the concept of “Herkommen” in the sense of a source of law. The paper shows how Kunkel, from a realistic perspective, builds up the Roman institutions out of the political practice during the Republic. Based on some specific cases, the paper compares the different ways of evaluating ancient text represented by Kunkel and Mommsen and examines their different approaches to the institutions of the Roman Republic

Die Innsbrucker Schule und die Kompetenzverteilung. Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs|Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs Band 2 / 2021|
The Innsbruck School, with Peter Pernthaler at its head, has made Austrian federalism an important topic of constitutional discussion; it has filled gaps in its jurisprudential coverage; and, not least, it has developed concepts for enhancing federalism which policymakers have implemented into the constitution
A holistic assessment of the impacts of park management: findings from the evaluation of Regional Nature Parks in Switzerland. eco.mont (Journal on Protected Mountain Areas Research and Management)|eco.mont Vol. 14 No. 1 14 1|
In Switzerland, Regional Nature Parks are required to undergo an impact assessment after ten years of operation, in order for the federal government to award the Park of National Importance label for a further ten years and for the government, relevant canton and communes to continue to provide financial support for the park’s operation. To this end, is there a convenient way of identifying and holistically assessing the impacts of park management activities on the goals of the parks and the overarching targets of parks policy in Switzerland? Based on experience gained from the evaluation of three Regional Nature Parks, we have developed a framework model for the holistic evaluation of such parks and present it here for discussion
