Disintegration predicts problem alcohol and drug use, quality of life, and experience in close relationships over the Big Five and HEXACO personality traits
The Disintegration trait (i.e., proneness to psychotic-like experiences and
behaviors) was recently proposed as the basic personality trait that supplements
the space of individual differences framed by well-known Big Five and HEXACO
models. In this research, we provided additional evidence of the unique
contribution of Disintegration in predicting the individual differences in some
outcomes whose relations with this trait are mainly unexplored. In the first study
(N = 300), we employed a 20-item measure of Disintegration (DELTA-20), a short
form of the Big Five Inventory (BFI-10), alcohol and drug use disorders
identification tests (AUDIT, DUDIT), and Flanagan's Quality of Life Scale (QoLS).The results showed that Disintegration predicts higher levels of problem alcohol
and drug use, and lower quality of life, over and above the Big Five traits, thus
increasing the proportion of explained variance by 3% and 1%, respectively. In the
second study (N = 537), we used a 10-item measure of Disintegration (DELTA-10),
a 60-item form of HEXACO, and a Serbian version of the Modified and Revised
Experiences in Close Relationship scale (SM-ECR-R). The results showed that
Disintegration predicts higher levels of avoidance and anxiety in close
relationships over and above HEXACO traits, with an incremental contribution in
the explained variance of 2% and 11%, respectively. In sum, our findings suggested
that the Disintegration trait, assessed by either the shorter or longer measure,
accounts for unique variance in individual, wellbeing-related outcomes, and
dyadic functioning-related outcomes. The limitations and future directions are
discussed
Digital Payment Systems on High-Speed Railway Belgrade–Novi Sad with a Comparative Analysis
The subject of this research is the implementation of new digital payment systems and digital services on the newly built first high-speed railway in Serbia with a speed of 200 km/h between Belgrade and Novi Sad, which opened for traffic in March 2022, as well as on other Serbian railroads in passenger railway traffic today. The authors analyze the results achieved by selling train tickets via digital payment systems on the high-speed railway Belgrade–Novi Sad, nominally and by income, as well as passenger remarks on the functionality of this way of doing business. The paper quantitatively and qualitatively compares digital payment systems of passenger railway traffic on Serbian railroads today with the beginning of their implementation fifteen years ago, as well as the experiences of international railway administrations and organizations. The research aims to analyze the forms and means of applying digital payment systems on Serbian railways in the previous decade and define the level reached in the railway sector today. Based on all these analyses, the research describes and proposes the directions for further development of digital payment systems in the railway sector in Serbia
Hospital admission tendencies caused by day-to-day temperature changes during summer: a case study for the city of Novi Sad (Serbia)
Increased temperature risk in cities threatens the health and well-being of urban population and is fueled by climate change and intensive urbanization. Consequently, further steps must be taken for assessing temperature conditions in cities and their association with public health, in order to improve public health prevention at local or regional level. This study contributes to solving the problems by analyzing the connection between extreme temperatures and the tendencies of all-cause hospital admissions. The analyses used (a) 1-h air temperature data, and (b) daily data of all-cause hospital admissions. The datasets include the summer period (June, July, August) for the years 2016 and 2017. We tested the effects of two temperature indices, day-to-day change in maximum temperature — Tmax,c and daily temperature range — Tr, with all-cause hospital admission subgroups, such as all-cause cases — Ha, hospital admissions in the population below 65 — Ha<65, and hospital admissions in the population aged 65 and over — Ha≥65. The results show the highest values of Ha when Tmax,c is between 6 and 10 °C. Therefore, more intensive hospital admissions can be expected when Tmax increases from day-to-day (positive values of Tmax,c), and it is more visible for Ha and Ha<65 (1 °C = 1% increase in hospital admissions). Also, Tr values between 10 °C and 14 °C cause an increase in the number of hospital admissions, and it is more noticeable for Ha≥65
Harnessing Instagram® for collaborative learning in higher education
This research proposes a methodological approach to using the social network Instagram® as a tool for collaborative e-learning activities in higher education. Collaborative e-learning activities are conducted on Instagram® through challenges and quizzes. The main aim of these activities is to encourage students’ creativity, motivation for learning, and collaboration through mutual interaction in assessing responses to challenges. The collected data were analyzed using social network analysis methods. The results showed students’ positive attitudes towards e-learning on social networks and readiness to use Instagram® for collaborative e-learning. The results further showed that social network analysis could provide teachers with valuable information about the students’ interactions and group dynamics, allow teachers to identify groups of students, and adapt teaching and learning strategies accordingly
Female Entrepreneurship in the Creative Economy
This paper aims to bring a deeper understanding of the crossings between the different types of entrepreneurship. We are especially focused on females by bringing the crossings with social and creative entrepreneurship to understand their common grounding - beyond profit orientation. Starting from the literature review, our goal is to offer conceptual similarities and differences between the three types of entrepreneurship. Our central hypothesis is that all three types of entrepreneurship hold the same fundamental grounding reflected through their mission and vision – beyond profit orientation. The literature review will be crossed with empirical findings from cultural and creative industries on the example of fashion and design industry actors in the Belgrade design district. Such an approach will contribute to mapping and deeper understanding of existing female creative entrepreneurship, which is gender-sensitive, responsible, and share the mission and vision that goes beyond profit orientation. We came to the empirical findings from our interviews and focus group discussion. The vast majority of examined samples of entrepreneurial organizations within the Belgrade Design District see themselves as responsible entrepreneurs. According to their daily, monthly and yearly practices, most of them fit under all three types of entrepreneurship – by contributing from the sphere of fashion and crafts (wider creative and cultural industries). On the example of Belgrade's fashion and craft design sector, we can conclude that all three types of entrepreneurship overlap -as socially responsible and sustainable entrepreneurship led by creativity, innovation and experimental work
What Drives the Levels of Digital Entrepreneurial Competencies of University Students?: A Research Roadmap and Preliminary Results
The purpose of this chapter is to provide a methodological framework for assessing digital entrepreneurial competencies (DEC) of university students and to point out the importance of different socio-demographic, institutional, and contextual factors as drivers of DEC levels. The chapter provides a roadmap for measuring DEC levels of university students along with the detailed corresponding methodology. The preliminary results of the pilot study targeting the first competence area of the corresponding DEC framework (EmDigital) and conducted simultaneously in Kuwait and Serbia are also presented in this chapter, demonstrating the perceived DEC levels and exact DEC levels of university students in two countries. Those results indicate that different factors drive the DEC levels of university students. This is the first research of this kind in academic literature
Empowering learning process in secondary education using pervasive technologies
In this paper we present an approach to employing pervasive technologies, such as IoT and mobile technologies, in secondary education. The goal is to develop a comprehensive methodology, IoT infrastructure and a mobile application that would enable secondary students to test their knowledge in interaction with a smart environment. We have developed a series of assignments that students solve using the Android application empowered with augmented reality that interacts with various QR codes, sensors, and actuators placed in a smart classroom. The evaluation of the developed system was done with the students of the Secondary School of Economics in Belgrade, Serbia. Students from the experimental group, after solving assignments using the developed mobile application in interaction with the smart learning environment, have tested their knowledge via an IoT test and filled out a questionnaire, while students in the control group solved the test in a traditional way. The results show that it is possible to increase the level of students’ knowledge by integrating IoT and mobile technologies in the learning process. In addition, the results show that students are ready and interested in using pervasive technologies within their formal education
Fostering Crowd-Based Open Innovations in Serbian Railways: Preliminary Readiness Assessment
This research addresses the possibilities of applying the concepts of open innovations and crowdsourcing to increase railway traffic safety. The goal is to propose an approach to developing IoT-based solutions through crowdsourcing, where various participants can contribute, and conduct a preliminary assessment study of readiness of students to participate. Crowdsourcing-based open innovations have already shown a great potential for the rapid development of new solutions, but the application in the context of improving railway traffic safety has not been fully explored yet. For piloting purposes, the authors have organized an open innovation project, where the students of the Faculty of Organizational Sciences, University of Belgrade, were provided an opportunity to propose and develop solutions for various safety problems in railways. The solutions were expected to include one or both aspects of developing marketing plans for raising awareness and designing and prototyping the IoT solutions for the selected problem. Research results show students’ general interest in participating in this type of project and provide implications regarding the organization of this type of project
How Has COVID-19 Affected Labor Income in Serbia? An Exploration of Gender, Education, the Possibility to Workfrom Home, and the Employment Sector Differences
This paper investigates the impact of COVID-19 on labor income changes of employees in Serbia. The research was conducted on a representative sample of 3,044 individuals from Serbia, using the CATI method, whereby 1,464 of them were included in the analyses as they provided the complete data needed for this study. Employees' labor income was recorded by collecting data on wages before and nine months after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. To obtain the difference, we calculated the percentage change in wages, accounting for the nominal values. There was no significant gender difference in the percentage change of income, while there was a difference regarding education level. Employees with primary education experienced an average percentage increase in wages of 7.6%, whereas those holding secondary and tertiary education had a negligible increase (1.84%) and a decrease (-0.78%), respectively. The analysis revealed a significant interaction between gender and education, indicating that men with primary education had an average increase of 12.8%. Our results showed that employees who could not perform their jobs from home had an average percentage increase of 2.9% in wages. The employment sector also had an effect on percentage changes in wages. The construction and agriculture, forestry, and fishery sectors had an average percentage wage increase of 12.6% and 11.5%, respectively, while employees in the sector of other service activities experienced an average percentage decrease of 7.9%. In conclusion, this study sheds light on the diverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on labor income, emphasizing the importance of considering gender, education, remote work possibilities, and the employment sector
