A Data Streaming Architecture for Air Quality Monitoring in Smart Cities
This paper aims to present a modeling approach for the seamless data streaming process from smart IoT systems to Apache Kafka, leveraging the MQTT protocol. The paper begins by discussing the concept of real-time data streaming, emphasizing the need to transfer data from IoT/edge devices and sensors to Apache Kafka in a timely manner. The second part consists of a literature overview that shows the analysis and systematization of different types of architectures in the broad sense of crowdsensing, followed by specific architectures regarding edge and cloud computing. The methodology section will propose an infrastructure and data streaming architecture for smart environment services, such as air quality monitoring. Lastly, a discussion about results and future development will be shown in the last two sections. The proposed integration approach offers several advantages, including efficient and scalable data streaming, real-time analytics, and enhanced data processing capabilities
A bibliometric analysis and future research agenda for online labour platforms
Online labour platforms (OLPs) are profit-oriented companies
utilising technology to connect independent contractor
workers with short-term service labour needs,
offering a digital marketplace for posting tasks, receiving
bids, and finalising agreements across various domains
such as writing, design, programming, and digital marketing.
This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of the
concurrent body of knowledge on OLPs, explaining how
the specificities of this emerging form of labour are researched
from various academic standpoints. The study
is based on a dataset of 358 papers on OLPs published
from 2013 to August 2023. The main finding of the study
is that scholarly interest in OLPs is steadily growing in the
observed period. However, geographical dispersion of
the scientific output is not in line with the actual level of
utilisation of OLPs, and scholarly interest in OLPs spans
across diverse disciplines, including industrial relations
and labour, management, economics, sociology, law, and
computer science. The results of this paper can help better
understand the dynamics of scholarly publishing on OLPs
and further leverage underexploited subtopics in this field
Rethinking progress: integrating innovation policy for sustainable futures
In the context of the pressing challenges posed by global issues such as
climate change, resource depletion, and social inequality, there is a growing
recognition of the need for innovative approaches within policy frameworks. The
paper explores the intersection of innovation policy and sustainable
development, aiming to uncover new avenues for fostering socio-economic and
environmental sustainability. By examining the case of the Czech Republic, this
study provides a nuanced understanding of how the country strategically shifted
from smart specialisation strategies (S3) to a more advanced mission-oriented
approach (S4). The introduction of missions within the S3 serves as a relevant
example that illustrates the Czech Republic's commitment to addressing current
challenges and aligning with global goals such as the European Green Deal and the
UN Sustainable Development Goals
Ecoefficiency and firm profitability nexus: the case of Serbia
To achieve sustainable development, eco-effi-ciency can be used as the main tool that will enable firms to create more by using fewer resources result-ing with less waste and pollution. In that aspect, this paper aims to investigate the relationship between eco-efficiency and firm profitability from 2011 to 2020 in Serbia as a high fossil fuel-reliant economy. To test the relationship between eco-efficiency and firm profitability, we used the panel technique, and we applied the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) for estimation. The analysis showed that the highest eco-efficiency indicator in Serbia was rec-orded in 2015, which means that Serbia had the high-est overall air emissions that year. Our main results show that the eco-efficiency variable impacts the profitability of Serbian polluting firms. Additionally, our model suggests that the size variable has a sig-nificant negative impact on firms' profitability; the investment level variable influences profitability positively, but the capital intensity variable has no impact on firms' profitability
Driving industrial and economic growth in Central and Eastern Europe: The role of electricity infrastructure and renewable energy
Balancing environmental objectives with energy security poses a significant challenge for Central and Eastern European (CEE) economies undergoing substantial energy sector reforms, particularly in the electricity sector. Apart from implementing market principles, improving electricity infrastructure and increasing the use of renewable energy sources (RES) are crucial for fostering industrial and overall economic growth. This study analyzes a panel of 15 Central and Eastern European economies (CEE) from 1995 to 2021. It employs various analytical techniques such as cross-sectional dependency testing, unit root testing, cointegration analysis, and the Augmented Mean Group (AMG) estimator. The results indicate that inefficient electricity infrastructure negatively impacts GDP and industry value-added (IVA) growth rates, regardless of control variables. Conversely, electricity generated from RES positively affects GDP and IVA growth rates in fully developed models. However, increased RES-generated electricity in models without control variables adversely affects IVA growth rates. These findings, coupled with the specific characteristics of CEE economies, lead to policy recommendations for sustainable economic and energy development
Informacione i komunikacione tehnologije - ključni faktor konkurentne digitalne ekonomije
Digitalna ekonomija predstavlja ekonomiju zasnovanu na digitalnim tehnologijama i
prevashodnu upotrebu informacionih i komunikacionih tehnologija (IKT) u svim oblastima ekonomije. U
savremenom poslovnom okruženju IKT postaje najznačajniji pokretač inovacija, rasta konkurentnosti i
izvor novih poslovnih prilika.
sekundarnih podataka Svetskog ekonomskog foruma.
pitanju prihvatanje IKT, infrastrukture i inovacionog sistema. Rezultat toga je nizak nivo informacionog
i komunikacionog razvoja preduzeća, posebno u segmentu implementacije savremenih ERP i CRM sistema

The authors conclude that the Infrastructure of Serbian Railways can reduce such negative consequences with quick and accurate information in social media and avoid inaccurate and sensational announcements by informing citizens promptly. Considering this, the paper also defines future digital activities by crisis PR in the event of railway accidents
Internal Stakeholders’ Readiness for Developing Smart Railway Services Through Crowd-Based Open Innovations
The railway is large and complex traffic and business system. That is why solving specific problems in the business and functioning of railways through classic business processes is difficult, expensive, and slow. The development of the Internet of things has enabled the wider social community to identify problems and find solutions in many areas of life, including on the railways. Thanks to this, opportunities were created for the railway to approach the solution of specific problems through open innovation as a more flexible, faster, and cheaper business concept. While foreign railways apply open innovation to improve smart railway traffic in smart cities, this concept has hardly been applied to Serbian Railways until now. The authors of the paper researched railway companies in Serbia to analyze internal stakeholders’ interest and readiness as possible participants in the process of open innovation in Serbian Railways to accept a new business concept and contribute to innovations in this area. The research showed that railway workers lack experience in applying open innovation and that there are unknowns in this area. They are also familiar with the possibilities, advantages, and importance of applying this business concept. With proper information to the employees, good conditions could be created to use open innovations on Serbian Railways successfully. The results of this research represent a reasonable basis for the application of open innovation on Serbian Railways
