Green cryptocurrencies versus sustainable investments dynamics: Exploration of multifractal multiscale analysis, multifractal detrended cross-correlations and nonlinear Granger causality

    No full text
Within this study, we analyse green cryptocurrencies versus sustainable investments dynamics by calculating a multifractal multiscale analysis (MMA) with Hurst surfaces paired with powerlaw distributional coherence tests for each series. Next, we determine multifractal cross-correlations by applying a maximal overlap discrete wavelet transform (MODWT) based trend-filtered variation of a multifractal detrended cross-correlation analysis (MF-DCCA). Finally, to determine the strength and directionality of potential causations, we determine the results of a nonlinear Granger causality test. The results for the MMA state -dependent unstable multifractality for each series. The coherence tests indicate that the series follow powerlaws or exponentially nested powerlaws and yield fat-tails in some cases. Moreover, we find strong scaling and multifractal cross-correlations between the cryptocurrencies and the sustainability series. Finally, the nonlinear Granger causality tests across four lags indicate a complex interplay between some of the selected cryptocurrencies and various indices. These results suggest the existence of potential predictive powers of these cryptocurrencies on the market indices

How Could Environmental Education Benefit from Digitalization : The Case of Sensory Gardens in Serbia

    No full text
Building on current trends in contemporary literature, this chapter analyses how advanced digital solutions can support environmental education in the context of sensory gardens. To this end, the authors analyzed the extent to which parents of preschool children in Belgrade are familiar with the concept of sensory gardens and whether the use of QR codes in sensory gardens promotes informal learning in the family context. The results show that most respondents are not familiar with the concept of sensory gardens and the benefits they offer. However, a significant proportion of respondents believe that the use of QR codes in sensory gardens would be a positive step towards facilitating informal learning for children and parents and encouraging children to spend more time in nature. The results show the value of digitalization in promoting the importance of environmental connectivity and resource conservation in local communities and underline the need to increase the number of sensory gardens in Serbia

    No full text
This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the benefits, obstacles, and ramifications of integrating blockchain technology into public sector functions, specifically focusing on economic and legal aspects. The discussion commences with an examination of the societal relevance of blockchain technology, as it is poised to dramatically enhance procedural efficiency within public sector organizations. Subsequently, the paper delineates the primary research objectives, which encompass identifying the multitude of benefits of blockchain technology for the public sector, investigating its legal and economic consequences, and scrutinizing the challenges that public sector organizations might face during implementation. Research methodologies employed to attain these objectives consist of an extensive literature review and qualitative primary data acquisition from field experts. Findings reveal that blockchain technology holds the potential to augment the swiftness and dependability of administrative procedures while bolstering data security within public sector organizations, albeit some legal and economic apprehensions persist. Regardless of these challenges, the authors maintain that the public sector is poised to reap significant rewards from blockchain technology deployment due to its capacity to modernize and streamline operations, as well as its capabilities for precise and verifiable data storage. Research limitations include a scarcity of available primary data and reliance on a singular data collection method. Suggestions for future research involve conducting additional studies addressing the questions raised in this research and supplementing the findings with user perspectives

Public debt management in Serbia during transition, great recession and COVID-19 pandemic

This paper examines the nonlinear asymmetric behaviour of the public debt/GDP ratio in Serbia in the first two decades of economic transition following the political and market reforms started at the beginning of the twenty-first century. Using quarterly data for the government debt-to-GDP ratio, a two-regime self-exciting threshold autoregressive (SETAR) model of order one finds a public debt/GDP ratio threshold of 66.2% above which fiscal policymakers in Serbia take corrective action in the form of increased fiscal prudence. The estimated government debt/GDP ratio threshold corresponds to a 60% threshold from the Maastricht fiscal criteria and shows how fiscal authorities in Serbia systematically ignore the 45% public debt/GDP limit set in the national fiscal rules. Such fiscal policy behaviour could jeopardize the credibility of fiscal institutions in Serbia and have a negative impact on fiscal discipline and the likelihood of sovereign default

Exploring Gender Disparities in Digital Skills: Evidence from the Serbian Tourism Sector

    Get PDF
The paper examines the digital skills of key stakeholders in the Serbian tourism industry (supply side) to identify potential gender gaps in digital proficiency. Employing a cross-sectional survey of 418 participants within the tourism industry, we utilized binomial logistic regression to parse out the effects of gender relative to other socio-demographic variables on digital skills. The descriptive results based on DigComp 2.0 methodology reveal notable gender differences, with women showing higher levels of information and communication skills but lagging men in problem-solving and content manipulation skills. However, the binomial logistic regression analysis indicates that gender does not significantly predict digital skill levels in the Serbian tourism sector. Instead, age and education are significant factors, with older individuals less likely to possess advanced digital skills and higher education levels correlating with greater digital proficiency. These findings underscore the critical role of education (formal and informal) in digital skills building, suggesting that comprehensive and targeted educational initiatives could effectively enhance digital skills and competencies across the sector

    No full text
The chapter aims to show the development of the information society in the EU countries, its digital progress, and its repercussions on the economy of Serbia as a country that is a candidate for EU membership. The methodological concept and the analysis are based on the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI), an official report of the European Commission. The DESI 2022 reports track the advancements made in the digital space in EU Member States and are primarily based on 2021 data. The findings of the study revealed that although Member States made progress in their efforts to go digital during the COVID-19 timeframe, they are still unable to address the gaps in digital skills, transform SMEs into digital businesses, or put out cutting-edge 5G networks. Also, the results show moderate progress in the development of the information society in Serbia in terms of the functioning of the internal market for electronic communications, the availability of modern electronic services, the development of information security, and the application of eGovernment and eCommerce
