The Use of Visualization with Pictures and Concept Mapping to Improve English Vocabulary Mastery of Pre-School Children
Many studies have come to a strong conclusion that pre-school education is important in supporting children to be ready in their future academic and social development. The writer would like to find out if there is an increase in the mastery of the English vocabulary of the pre-school children through visualization with pictures and concept mapping. A combination of qualitative and quantitative study with pre-test and posttest has been conducted to find out if there is an increase in the mastery of the English vocabulary of kindergarten children of Chatya Manis after given materials using the method. 40 children were chosen to be the samples of the study. The study reveals that there is a significant difference between the average value of the test before and after learning model concept mapping activities
Translation Assessment Model for Informative Texts of German Language into Indonesian
This study aims to develop a model of assessment informative text translation German into Indonesian. The method used in this study is a qualitative content analysis approach. The results showed that the assessment model translation developed must consider the aspect of linguistics that mel lexicon, idiom, addition, subtraction transposition, levies or loans (borrowing) shrinkage or expansion, semantic aspects include the meaning referansial, meaning interpersonal and grammatical meaning, Aspect pragmatic include keruntutan mean. Besides the aspect of reasonableness phrases, terminology, spelling and punctuation should also be considered. These activities are carried out thoroughly and carefully in order to produce the desired information. Assessment model developed to have high validity and reliability so that it can be used as a model or guidelines votes informative text translations in German - language Indonesia.Kesimpulan, the results of this study would be useful to translators in general and for the lecturers in particular to be used as a reference in assessing the quality translation particularly informative text translation German into Indonesia
Improving English Speaking Ability through Mobile Assisted Language Learning (Mall) Learning Model
The aims of the study to reveals in details process and result of improving English speaking ability using Mobile assisted Language Learning (MALL) learning model. This study is an action research at English Department Muhammdiyah University of Jakarta consists of 30 students as the participant. Data obtained from the result of English Speaking ability test. The results of the study showed that the learning process using Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) makes the students become more active in their speech; their participation level in learning interaction shows it. The result also presented that there is significantly improvement on the students’ English speaking ability using Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) from preliminary cycle to the third cycle phase in research process. The average score of the students at preliminary stage is only 42.8 then it increased in the first cycle to 53.2. While on the second cycle obtained an average score of 61.2 and increased in the third cycle to 80. So, it can be concluded that action research in improving English speaking ability using Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) significantly helps the students in improving their ability to speak English
The Maintenance of Gorontalo Language through Teaching The Local Content at Elementary Schools
The current condition exposes the degradation of number of speakers even the use of Gorontalo language. It is proved by the data which show that almost 40% of respondents cannot speak Gorontalo language actively. As a consequence, the maintenance of Gorontalo language is a must to prevent this phenomenon to be worse. One of the effective ways to maintain Gorontalo language is teaching the Gorontalo language through the local content at elementary schools. Moreover, the teaching process should involve cultural and linguistic aspects of the language
Efeectivenes Of PQ4R Metacognitive Strategy Based Reading Learning Models in Junior High School
The objective of research is to find out the efectivenes of metacognitive Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review (PQ4R) strategy based reading learning model to improve SMP students’ reading ability. The method applied in this study is research and development by using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The research result shows that the ideal learning model needed by the students is metacognitive PQ4R strategy based reading learning model. Structurally, this learning model is viable, relevant, and suitable with the principles of learning model development, both from substantial view and the structural model. Based on the trial result with experimental research design (experimental and control groups), metacognitive PQ4R strategy based reading learning model is effective to be used to improve SMP students’ reading ability. Even the learning outcome is better than the reading class done by the teacher who does not use metacognitive PQ4R strategy. learning metacognitive reading strategies based PQ4R junior high school students are more effective than learning to read that teachers without the use of metacognitive strategies PQ4R with the calculation results of test of 5.975 t test is greater than t table 1.67. So it can be concluded that the learning model based reading metacognitive strategies PQ4R effective and fit for use in secondary schools
Polytechnic Students' Preferences in Choosing the Reading Materials for English Language Classroom
Reading has been a core of language learning skills and an essential tool for lifelong learning for centuries. Malaysian's language classroom scenario looks upon reading as a toughest task amongst the students in comprehending English texts. Facts were found referring to reading and the selection of materials correlates in bringing the best in comprehending what has been read. In Polytechnic System, language learning in diploma courses is compulsory. In an absolute condition, it's to highlight on the selection of reading materials on what do students seek and preferred. Students want variety and look into many modes for aspiration as a guide and input for the language learning classroom. This study aims to identify the polytechnic students' preferences towards reading materials and to find out the factors that influence the polytechnic students' choice of reading materials. Samples of respondents are from Polytechnic Banting Selangor (PBS), the diploma students in Mechanical and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering department
NEGOTIATION IN WEDDING PROPOSAL CEREMONY (AN ETHNOGRAPHY OF COMMUNICATION STUDY IN MINANGKABAU SOCIETY IN SOLOK REGENCY WEST SUMATERA)
This research aimed to explain the way and culture of utterances in wedding proposal ceremony in Minangkabau. This research was qualitative research using ethnography of communication method. The findings of the research can be described as follow. First is the negotiation using turn taking in own initiative. However before the agreement was taken using own initiative, the discussion need to be done. The culture of discussion is the culture of Minangkabau society to get an agreement. It is because the decision made will give effect to other family members. Second is negotiation that always used in direct utterance in form of declarative utterance. Third is negotiation that always used in indirect utterance in form of declarative and imperative utterance. Indirect utterance was the utterance that mostly used. This is related with the culture of Minangkabau society that has intrinsic meaning
Messages For Humanity In "Bula Malino" (Quiet Moon) (A Poem by Kaimuddin Idrus Muhammadalbuthuni Ibnu Badaruddin)
The 2013 Curriculum describes the core competencies (KI) into four aspects of competence, namely (1) spiritual, (2) social, (3) cognitive, and (4) psychomotor aspects. The spiritual and the social aspects of learning materials development is done in an integrated manner, namely through the development of cognitive aspects (knowledge) of KI 3, and psychomotor aspects (skills) of KI 4. Therefore, the integration literature values in the areas of learning may be one of the teacher's choices. The objective is to make the learning materials comply with students' schemata or insight. Based on the content analysis that has been done in some local literatures both in folklores and poetries, local literature contains a lot of character values. Thus, local literatures may contribute to the implementation of 2013 Curriculum, so that teachers can integrate them in the development of learning. Local literatures in Southeast Sulawesi such as; Oheo Folklore for Tolaki people, Wandoke-Doke te Lakolo-kolopua Folklore for Muna People, or Wandiu-Diu Folklore for Buton people contains a lot of character values, both in terms of spiritual and social values. Folk Songs such as Kabanti, Kantola also has similar values in the society; they have humanistic, moral, mutual assistance, hard work, discipline, and struggle values. Spiritual values in the local literatures, among others are, belief in the greatness of Allah SWT, confidence in God's grace in all its activities, and surrender to Allah. Character values on learning in the implementation of the 2013 Curriculum, among others are; discipline, hard work, honesty, responsibility, working together, affection, and respect. Thus, the values of the local literature or local culture is highly relevant to the values of character education, and therefore local literature values can be integrated in the learning area designed by teachers in the implementation of 2013 Curriculum, especially in developing KI 1 and KI 2 in learning
Cultural Values In The Novel "The Legend Of Condor Heroes" (Shen Diao Xia Lü) From Jin Yong
The purpose of this research is to understand deeply about cultural values in the novel "The legend of Condor Heroes" from Jin Yong. This research uses qualitative method with structural semiotic approach. The results of this research showed the theme from this novel was about love, plot were progressive and dramatic, setting was in Dynasty of Zhong, and the point of view used third person. There were also found cultural values from semiotic aspects from Icon, indeks, and symbol they were independent, zhi (wise), control of emotion, Li (morality), Lian (pure heart), Ren (affection), Zhong (loyal), simplicity, Xiao (obedient), interflow with nature, accomplishing character, Yi (responsibility), praying, and obey rules of Budha. 
Increasing The Ability Writing Short Stories through Metacognitive Strategies
The objective of this research is to find the increasing of the process and the result student’sshort story writing through metacognitive strategy in language and Indonesia Literature StudyProgramme FKIP-PGRI University of Palembang. This research uses action research methodwhich is done through planning, action, observation, and reflection. This research wasconducted through three cycles, from the result of learning process is found that students havebeen able to make a planning, monitoring, evaluation and revising according to metacognitivestrategy cycle, during their time in writing short story task. This research find out that therehad been an increased from the short story writing result in every of its cycle. On the first cycle,there are 8 (eight) students who accomplished the task, with average score is in 64,16. On thesecond cycle, it showed a significant increased, there were 29 (twenty nine) students whoaccomplished and 9 (nine) students have not accomplished the task, with average score is ini72, 18. And the third cycle, there were 38 (thirty eight) students who accomplished the task inthe short story writing learning process with average score was in 77,0
