Improving Drama Script Writing through Modeling Strategies
This action research refers to Elliot model (1991) that aims to improve the ability of writing a screenplay through modeling strategies. This action researchon SMA of Purbolinggo Lampung in the academic year of 2014/2015. The implementation of this research is three cycles. Each implementation of actions is divided into stages, identifying intial idea, reconnaissance, general planning, implement of action, monitor implemention, reflection, reconnaissance and revise general idea. The results of the reflection activities function as a foothold to draw up a plan of action to the next cycle. The research results can be concluded: the first process of improving writing skills through drama script modeling strategy. Second, the results of the upgrade script writing drama through modeling strategies, ranging from initial tests as exploitation of the capabilities of the beginning to the end of the test third cycle the experience increased. (1) The results of initial tests average score 40.1 ((level less); (2) the first cycle the average score 42.4 (level less); (3) the second cycle the average score 64.3 (level of being); and (4) the third cycle the average score 83.4. This score has already reached a high level
THE EFFECT OF INSTRUCTIONAL MODELS AND LEARNING STYLES TOWARDS WRITING SKILL
The objective of this experimental study is to find out the effect of instructional models and learning styles toward learners’ English writing skill. The research was conducted at the English Department, the Academy of Foreign Language BSI Jakarta Indonesia. The results of this research indicated that: (1) there is a significant different improvement of English writing skill between group of learners who were taught by using the STAD Cooperative Learning model and those who were taught by using The Lecture Model, (2) English writing skill of the visual learners taught by using STAD Cooperative Learning model is better than those taught by using The Lecture Model, (3) English writing skill of the auditory learners taught by using The Lecture Model is better than those taught by using STAD Cooperative learning model, and (4) there is an interaction effect between the instructional model and learning style towards English writing skill achievement
The Implementation of Cooperative Principle in Class Group Discussion
This study is aimed to understand the implementation of Grice’s cooperative principle in class group discussion at Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program of Faculty of Teachers Training and Education of UNTIRTA Serang. The research was conducted through ethnographic study. Data of the research were collected through observation and transcription of documentation which investigated into the analysis of domain, taxonomy, componential, and cultural themes. The result of study showed that the implementation of Grice’s cooperative principles was found in class group discussion at Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program of Faculty of Teachers Training and Education of UNTIRTA Serang. The maxim that mostly occurred was maxim of quantity, continued by maxim of relevance, maxim of quality, and maxim of manner. The result also showed that the use of cooperative principles in class group discussion could not be separated from the influence of students’ origin culture and mother tongue which reflected into the use of formal language, politeness, tone, sense of respect and focus on the discussion, and the use direct speech. 
Speech Acts in Wedding Ceremony Wurung Jue of Dayak Ma'anyan
Wurung Jue is a series of events Process Dayak Customary Marriages Ma'anyan and Lawangan. Wurung jue Jue or bird is a symbol of faithful to their spouse. This research is a qualitative research. The main instrument in this study is the researchers themselves. Data collected over take the form of words or pictures instead of numbers. "The research data were retrieved through data collection techniques such as observation, interviews and documentation, namely the recording and record ripple used in ceremonies pernikahan.Hasil of this study were 1 ) ripple Ma'anyan Dayak is an old literary work because tumet a poem performed at the wedding customs Ma'anyan tribes commonly called Wurung Jue, 2) acts of speech commonly used in ripple namely locutions and illocutionary speech acts. Riak also has characteristics in common with each stanza rhyme that these ripples consist of four lines with end rhymes a-b-a-b. Each array consists of four words or eight with the provisions of the first two lines are always in the form of figurative or sampiran, while the content or the exact meaning contained in the third and four lines
A Comparative Psycho-Sociolinguistic Overview of The Phonemic Realizations of The Letter in (Nigerian) English As A Second Language (ESL) and Received Pronunciation (RP)
This paper examines the articulation of the letter <Ee> in Educated Nigerian English (ENE) against the psycho-sociolinguistic background of English as a Second Language (ESL), the concepts of interference and intraference. Examples were gathered from 2005 to 2013 through unstructured interviews, participant and non-participant observation, and the recording of spontaneous speech. Methods of data analysis are qualitative and quantitative. The ordinal data are presented in percentile and frequency tables and charts and the linguistic texts are described and explained. The study established that as a result of intraference, educated Nigerians mix up the various RP realizations of the letter <e>. As the articulations examined here are institutionalized in ENE and as they have both national and international intelligibility, it is proposed that they be treated as variations that typify ESL varieties
Semiotic Review of Verbal Literature of Riwok Kerinci
Riwok verbal literature is a customary speech text delivered at the ceremonial feast of Sko. This study aims to interpret the expressions contained in the Riwok text through Semiotic Review. This study is a qualitative study using semiotic approach. Semiotic approach used to assess the meaning of the phrase in the text of verbal literature Riwok is based on semiotic theory of Charles Sanders Peirce, namely the triangular theory of meaning or meaning triangle which consists of three main elements, namely the sign, object, and interpretant. Signs, according to Peirce, consists of symbol (signs created from agreement), Icon (sign created from physical representation) and Index (sign created from cause-effect relationships). The results of the study found that in in the expression of Riwok text there are icon, index, and symbol signs. The signs were found in all Riwok texts. Based on the analysis of Riwok text, semiotic signs most commonly found is a sign of symbol. Symbols are found in the phrase which states the requirements for being an indigenous leader, a phrase which states the behavior of leaders, the phrase which states the roles, duties, and functions of traditional leaders, as well as the phrase stating customary sanctions
Ciacia Language Maintenance through "House of Culture" Model
Local language maintenance has been remarkably attended recently following massive extinction of languages for having been rarely used and not transmitted well to younger generation. This paper reports the findings of a study related to a model which is evidently useful to preserve local language use among students with less comprehension to their local language. The developed model employs local short stories as tools for language perseverance by means of project making which requires students' active participation mingling with the language. The study indicates that local culture and tradition like short stories is apparently favorable to support and promote the use of local language among students. Thus, it is highly recommended that local culture and tradition be cultivated and developed to preserve language maintenance and involve language users directly and consciously towards language survival
POLITENESS OF SPEAKING IN WATAMPONE COMMUNITY (Ethnographic Research Communications In Kabupaten Bone, Sulawesi Selatan)
This study aimed to describe in detail about politeness of speaking in Watampone community. The focus of this research is politeness of speaking in Watampone community. The subfocus is politeness in terms of the principles of cooperative and cultural aspects of Watampone community. This study was a qualitative research by using ethnographyof communication method. The technigues and procedures of data collection were used such as observation, recordings and transcrips, and interviews. Based on data analysis, the politeness of speaking in Watampone community used in formal in situation the first Watampone community apply the principles of cooperative and second, cultural aspects can be seen verbal and nonverbally
SPEECH ACT IN AN INDONESIAN TELEVISION TALK SHOW (CONTENT ANALYSIS RESEARCH IN MATA NAJWA TALK SHOW AT METRO TV)
The objective of this research was to understand comprehensively about implementation of direct and indirect speech act in Mata Najwa talk shows on Metro TV. It was a qualitative research with content analysis method. The data were collected through indirect participant using observation and some document study were video recordings of audio-visual from www.matanajwa.com pages. It was started of January 2014 to March 2014. The analysis and interpretation of data, indicated that direct speech act mode was more dominant than indirect speech act. Direct speech act was conducted through speech of interrogative, declarative, and imperative. Indirect speech act was conducted through speech of declarative and interrogative for imperative mode
STORY OF BIG FLOOD IN THE MODERN INDONESIAN LITERARY: AN ECOCRITICISM STUDY
The nature of paper shows that Ecocriticism is not popular issue in the modern Indonesian criticism. Hence, it is very crucial to develop the Indonesian criticism based on the ecological perspective because nowday that the term development is synonym with exploiting the nature. The paper is to find out the ecological issue in the modern indonesian literary, especially in fiction prose and poems publised for late ten years. To analyze the work, researcher is used semiotic method and hermeneutic design of research as an approach. Semiotic will investigate the symbol behind the words and hermeneutic will translated the symbol to actual message. Based on the analysis, the ecological theme in the modern Indonesian literary is crucial interpretation. The meaning appeared in the work has given the imporant values of increasing care of nature, human kind, and harmonization. For recomentation, in the future researcher should have interpretate the work based on the ecocriticism to increase meaning of human and nature
