Il restauro architettonico: le diverse concezioni nel corso dei secoli
Get PDFThe work reassumes the fundamental phases, in reference to the historical changes, of the conceptions related to the restoration and to the maintenance of the architectural works of art. It is opportune to reassume the evolution of the methods and the techniques applied to the restoration of the aforesaid manufactured articles, also in relationship to the theoretical conceptions. The explication of the routine of restoration has concerned particularly the actual applications. Close to the theory and to the routine of the restoration it has been set in evidence the development of the concept of "maintenance", understood as preliminary and complementary to the restoration itself: such concept has been express referring to the Charters of restoration from the beginning of the last century to today. It is intended, therefore, to follow a historical-critical path conceived in the different, and also complementary, phases of historical, aesthetical and technological development

Get PDFIn the intervention at the Environment Commission of the Senate on the problems of the sustainable development, following the recent World Summit in Johannesburg, some fundamental points are underpinned: the question is summed up and an exam is made about the results of the Summit and on the meaning of the commitments taken for the future. Indeed, it is universally accepted that, to be considered sustainable, the development must reach a compromise between economical, social and environmental goals, to maximize the present well-being, without challenging the right of future generations to satisfy their own needs. It is also accepted that this cannot be realised without defence for our eco-system and without a simultaneous and well coordinated intervention of all Countries and the participation of all productive and social categories; probably, this should be the true finality of the so much acclaimed “globalisation”

Get PDFThe aim of the present work is to make a physico-chemical characterization of corrosion products found on minting dies and punches belonging to the Estense Collection. The data, obtained using different instrumental chemical methods, proved to be useful in characterizing both the products and their phases (crystalline and amorphous). The analysis of the composition of the items was realised by the use of non destructive and non invasive test techniques (EDXRF, ADXD, EDXD). Whenever this was not possible, we in any case attempted to use specific techniques (DRIFT, TGA/DTA, XRD,ICP) aimed at shedding some light on our problem without in any way altering the objects of the study or their state of conservation

Get PDFIn the past the unsuitable choices made when choosing products to be used for conservation actions related to artefacts of historic-artistic interest were mainly due to wrong assessments. More specifically this means: insufficient determination of the structure-aspect relation which characterises the original materials that make up the artefacts; insufficient knowledge of the behaviour of new materials due to natural ageing processes which might impoverish them or deprive them of specific qualities; lack of interest in measuring the medium-long term effects and interactions of the artefacts-products-environment system. The latter is sometimes capable of triggering new and more serious factors leading to the deterioration of the artefact sometimes causing even greater damage. In particular this study refers to the aspects related to the potential danger deriving from products used for the different types of conservation interventions on stone materials
