Developing Speaking Skill through Oral Report in an EFL Class in Indonesia
This Classroom Action Research aims at developing students’ speaking skill through the application of oral report technique. This research is conducted collaboratively in three cycles in which researcher acts as a lecturer while his collaborator acts as an observer and each cycle consists of two meetings. Data of this research is attained from two main sources namely qualitative and quantitative data. The data shows that In preliminary study, 35.5% students could answer questions given by researcher through interview but the achievement score shows that 13.3% students could fulfill the minimum criteria of achievement. The minimum criterion of achievement is 60. At cycle I, 37% students could participate in oral report and 24.4% students could fulfill the minimum criteria of achievement. At cycle II, 51.1% students could participate in oral report and 42.2% students could fulfill the minimum criteria of achievement. The last is 75% students could fulfill the minimum criteria of achievement from 86.6% students who participated in oral report at cycle III from 45 students. Furthermore, the highest score obtained by student from each of cycles present that in preliminary study is 70 whereas 72.5 at cycle I, 85 at cycle II, and 90 at cycle III. Factors Influencing Students` Pronunciation Mastery at English Department of STKIP PGRI West Sumatera
The research is to find the dominant factors influencing students` pronunciation mastery at English department of STKIP PGRI West Sumatera. This research is using qualitative research method. Total of participants are 10 English students academic year 2016/2017 in English Department of STKIP PGRI West Sumatera who are getting the best mark in pronunciation class. Sample of the research was selected by using purposive sampling technique. The instrument of the research is interview. The purpose of the interview is to get the real arguments about factor influencing students` pronunciation mastery. This research revealed that motivation is the dominant factor influencing students` pronunciation mastery. Most of the students were motivated to increase their pronunciation because they were motivated by native speakers-watching the western or English movies and songs. Besides, they also argued that they wanted to go to overseas so, they should produce the word with correctly pronounced to avoid misunderstanding for both speaker. Based on the data obtained, it can be stated that motivation is the dominant factor influencing students` pronunciation mastery in academic year 2016/2017 at English Department of STKIP PGRI West Sumatera
Teaching Reading through Survey, Question, Read and Write (SQRW) at Junior High School 20 Padang
This research was Classroom Action Research to analyze students’ reading comprehension through SQRW. In this research, researcher used random sampling in selecting the participant and answering the question of questionnaire. In collecting the data, the researcher did observation and used reading task, test, teacher’s diary and Questionnaire. The subject of the study is the second year students of SMP Negeri 20 Padang, The subject consists of 40 students, 23 male and 18 females. From the data that have been found, they have good ability in serving, answering questions, reading and writing. It means the ideal passing score is at least 75%. This study was stopped when 90% of the students, subject of this study have reached the passing grade. It is recommended that English teacher of junior high school use the SQRW in the classroom, the teacher must to be able to support the students to learn reading by using SQRW and also the teacher must consider the best teaching in developing the use SQRW
Problems Faced by the Teacher in Maximizing the Use of Learning Media in Padang
This research aims to find the teacher condition in teaching relating to the use of instructional media. This study used   descriptive qualitative method to gain the data in which the the researcher play his role as the major Instrument and put the teachers as the key informant while the secondary informant is the principal. The results of the research shows that the teachers were satisfied with what he/she has always do, and they feel there is no need to be changed or developed on the pattern of teaching and learning with the help of the media. This research conclude that teachers  assumee that teaching does not suported by various types of media and it make them have lack ability to use the learning media. Finally, this reseach recomend the teacher to change their habbit in using the media while the school leader provide them with opportunities to utilize the media in their teaching process
Analyzing the Issues in the Implementation of Authentic Assessment in the 2013 Curriculum
The  implemention of authentic assessment  in the   2013 Ccurriculum  has been encountered by various challenges. Teacher have to use numerious instruments, which made them quite which are regarded more complicated. this study focused on the analysis of issues experienced by teachers in implementingng theauthentic assessment within the 2013 curriculum. This study used quantitatif method in which questionnaire was  distributed to the teachers. Population included all teachers in Padang whose schools are applying the 2013 curriculum. 120 teacher were randomly taken as the sample.  The results show that in terms of the affective aspect, the teachers had not yet been optimal in conducting self- and peer assessment for the students, thus the further improvement is seriously recomended. In light of the the cognitive aspect, the teachers had done a very good assessment. They had made a variety of assessment types, especially in the essay and oral tests. However, the assessment of psychomotor aspect was not also optimally done need some improvement. From these results, it is hoped that the teachers can further enhance the assessment procedures of the three criteria for better learning outcomes. The school principals should be able to create opportunities for the teachers to take training in the Applying authentic assessment
The Development of E-Learning Media Based Moodle to Increase Science Development and Islamic Studies in STAIN Gajah Putih
Along with the development of information technology, which more rapidly, the need of a concept and mechanism of Information Technology-based learning becomes inevitable. Then, concept known as e-learning take affect transformation of occurs conventional education into digital form, both the content and the system that is bridged by the technology of internet. The concept of e-learning gives the possibility of interaction between lecturers and students, either the students in the classroom or outside the classroom intensively. This study aimed to obtain e-learning media based Moodle is effective to support the development of science and Islamic studies in Gayo through a series of development process. The finding of the study showed that e-learning based Moodle was conducted by using 4-D model (Four D Model). The results also showed that of development activities are: (1) e-learning media in Gayo which can be seen in www.elearning-gayobelajar.com and (2) the use of guide books for lecturers and teachers. The Finding also indicated that the development of E-learning based Moodle is reliable or has a high level of reliability if t is used in university
Improving Islamic Students’ Ability on Mastering Names and Responsibilities of Angels through Word Guessing Game
From the researcher's experience in the field, many students were reluctant to ask for any clarification, unwilling to express their opinion, less able to give feedback, and did disruptive behaviors during the learning process. Ideally, students are expected to be active and involved in the learning process and to get good learning outcomes. This study is a Class Action Research (CAR), which attempts to improve students' activity and learning outcomes. The research was conducted through four main stages: planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reflection. The research findings from teaching the names and responsibilities of angels through the classical method do not obtain maximum result. On the other hand, word guessing learning model shows better results than that of the classical one. In this model, students are motivated to compete with one another in making and answering the questions. The normally passive students are encouraged to participate actively in learning. Thus, it can be concluded that the learning process with of the game will improve students' learning outcome
Peaceful in Pesantren: The Involvement of Santri’s Peaceful Environment and Personality
The aim of this study is to identify the characteristics of peaceful personality of adolescent Santri (Islamic students) and their peaceful environment. The subjects of the study are 57 respondents taken from two classes (both male and female classes) of the 11th grade in Madrasah Aliyah (Mualimin) Pesantren Persis 19 Bentar Garut, academic year 2015-2016. Quantitative research was used where the data was analyzed descriptive and correlational statistics. The result of the study showed that average achievement of peaceful personality is considered high in the aspects of intrapersonal and interpersonal peaceful personality. The number of Santri’s perceptions on the condition of Pesantren’s (Islamic school) peaceful environment is also considered high. The factor of the environmental condition in Pesantren and home, according to the result of study, significantly influences the peaceful personality of adolescent Santri
The Effect of Problem Based Learning on EFL Students’ Critical Thinking Skill and Learning Outcome
This research aims to examine the effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) model to students’ critical thinking skill and learning outcome. It was conducted on the 11th graders of social science program at SMAN 6 Malang. The research material was the problems of demography. Research method was quasi experiment with non equivalent control group design. The data analysis used t-test technique. The research result showed that PBL learning model affected students’ critical thinking skill and learning outcome in SMAN 6 Malang. The average gain score of experimental class is 33.10, higher than control class, which is 16.24. The result of t-test analysis is 0.000 smaller than the significance of 0.05. It is suggested that PBL becomes one of aalternative teaching models that could be implemented to enhance students critical thingking skill
The Effectiveness of Problem Based Learning Integrated With Islamic Values Based on ICT on Higher Order Thinking Skill and Students’ Character
The focus of this research is to known the influence of Problem Based Learning (PBL) model application, that intergrated with Islamic values based on ICT, toward the ability of higher-order thinkingskill and the strenghtening of students’ characters. This research is quasy experiment type with group design pretest-postest. The research was conducted in SMA.Sampling by means of random sampling, to determine the control class and experimentalclass.Data analysis technique used is the t-test, based on the value of significance, as well as test-effect size. The research data shows that the model of problem based learning integrates Islamic values based on ICThas positive influence towards the increasing of higher-order thinking skill and the strenghtening of students’ characters compared to the students that use conventional method.The result of effect size test on experimental class in on medium category. It means that the learning which use problem based learning (PBL) model, integrated with Islamic values based on ICT, can be said effective on increasing higher order thinking skillof students
