Cassava leaves, as a leafy vegetable and highly nutritious food, is not a common traded leafy vegetable on the local markets of Ghana. The study assessed consumers’ perception and their willingness to pay (WTP) for cassava leaves as a leafy vegetable in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality, a peri-urban district in the Ashanti region of Ghana. A multistage sampling technique was used to select 200 respondents for the study. Based on the empirical results, 67% of respondents were willing to pay for cassava leaves at various bids. Overall agreeing perception index (PI) was 64.6%, implying that respondents accept the cassava leaves to be sold at the local market as a leafy vegetable. On average, for every 500 grams bunch of cassava leaves, respondents were willing to pay GHS1.61 (USD0.32), below the value of its close substitute, spinach, at an initial bid of GHS2.00. An empirical tobit regression model revealed that consumers’ monthly income, level of education, and perception to sell cassava leaves as a leafy vegetable have significant influence on their WTP for cassava leaves as a leafy vegetable. The study recommends the need for farmers and other stakeholders to develop and promote the market for cassava leaves, as an alternative source of leafy vegetable for consumers and also as source of income to farmers. There is also the need for sensitization on the nutritional benefits and training on value addition to the produce to boost its patronage in the country and globally

Membership in the G-20 forum is both a threat and an opportunity for Indonesian agricultural commodities. Indonesia must be able to take advantage of this great opportunity to increase international trade activities, especially exports. Although the G-20 market is a potential market, Indonesia faces challenges because it is considered not ready to compete and threatened to become a market for other countries. In 2020, Indonesia's agricultural exports (HS 01-24) are in ninth place compared to its competitors in G-20 market. In order to increase the export share, the purpose of this study is to analyze the development of exports  from Indonesia to the G20 market and the competitiveness of agricultural products. The analyzes used are descriptive analysis, Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), and Dynamic Revealed Comparative Advantage (DRCA). The results showed that 63.25% of the five selected agricultural export commodities had comparative competitiveness in the G-20 market. From the trend of increasing exports, several countries that become non-traditional markets have the potential as a market diversification destination, including Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Turkey, and Argentina. DRCA analysis shows that the dynamics of the G-20 market are quite large, and some of them are experiencing a decline. The strategy to increase exports to the G-20 market is to maintain the competitiveness of commodities in the rising star quadrant, as well as increase the competitiveness of commodities that are in the lagging opportunity and lost opportunity quadrant due to high global demand for these commodities

Analysis of Household Income and Food Security of Watermelon Farmers During The Covid-19 Pandemic in Lamongan Regency

The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted the Indonesian economy in almost all sectors, including the agricultural sector. The government's policy for large-scale social restrictions has an impact on farmers' household income because it disrupts the access to sales of agricultural products. The low household income reduced opportunities to meet the needs of good quality food consumption, making food security difficult to achieve. Food security is reflected in two indicators, the level of energy adequacy and the proportion of household food expenditure. The aim of this research are to analyze income, food security and determinant factor of food security. The research was conducted in Trosono Village, Sekaran District, Lamongan Regency. It analyzed household food security using the Jonnson and Toole model. Further, factors influencing food security were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. This research found that (1) the average income of watermelon farming reached IDR 23,496,465 per hectare. Additionally, the research revealed that (2) watermelon farming households fell into the vulnerable (46.5%), the secure (23.2%), the insecure (20.9%), and the less secure (9.3%) categories. Finally, it was found that (3) several variables, such as the number of family members, the head of the family's education, income, rice expenditure, and maternal education, had a significant effect on the energy adequacy rate. The study reccomends farmers to hold technology counseling to increase their income, also  there is a need socialization about the importance of regulating balanced, nutritious, and diverse food consumption patterns to increase mother knowledge to improve the nutritional status of their families

Asymmetric Information, Transaction Costs, and Farmers Decision To Participate In Tobacco Voor-Oogst Kasturi Contract Farming

Contract farming is a vital tool to connect farmer and industry. However, contracts participation between tobacco farmers and tobacco leaf supplier (TLS) was still low even though the benefit of the contract is enormous. The low participation was related to factors that affect the contract, demographics, farm characteristic, and other related factors.  However, farmer participation on the contract was still low. Besides, contracts initially became a tool to prevent market failure since it regulated how economic actors acted against others causing transaction costs (TC) due to asymmetric information that made the contract not function ideally. Therefore, this study attempts to (1) explain factors underlying farmer decision to participate in contract farming (CF), (2) explain asymmetric information. Respondents in this study were 100 respondents consisting of 50 tobacco contract farmers, and 50 independent farmers. This study applied logistic regression analysis to analyze factors affecting farmer participation in CF. Besides, the New Institutional Economy approach was exerted to analyze asymmetric information on product transfer from farmer to TLS. The results showed that factors that significantly influenced tobacco farmers' decision-making to participate in CF are farming experience, land size, risk aversion level (RAL), the certainty of price, and source of capital. Asymmetric information caused adverse selection and moral hazard. About 30% of farmers had sold products to other parties (other TLSs and middleman), and 8% of farmers had applied pesticides that TLS prohibited. Contracts that were not ideal due to asymmetric information must be re-enforced by using additional costs called transaction costs, divided into three types, (1) search and information costs, (2) cost to design, negotiate and conclude and (3) the monitor and contract enforcement costs. Monitoring costs had the potential to absorb the most considerable portion compared to the other types of transaction costs. The greater the asymmetric information generated, the greater the transaction costs incurred
