This study examined the effects of irregular migration on the well-being of the migrant households in Delta and Edo States, Nigeria. A cross-sectional research design and purposive sampling technique were adopted.  Questionnaire was employed as the research instrument for this study with 716 respondents deemed usable. The theoretical and analytical framework that directs this study combines the New Economics of Labour Migration theory with the neo-classical theory, making evident their shared premise that irregular migration can be seen as a household-calculated strategy to maintain rural well-being. With the use of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 23, the acquired data were examined using percentages, means, standard deviations, Pearson's coefficient of correlation, and linear regression analysis. The well-being of migrant households in the Delta and Edo States is positively and considerably influenced by irregular movement, according to the study. The study also showed that irregular migration improves welfare and means of subsistence, increases financial remittances, lowers family poverty, and promotes the construction of infrastructure in the home areas of migrants in the Delta and Edo States. The study came to the conclusion that, for all people, including those in the Delta and Edo States, irregular migration is an unavoidable human phenomenon in the modern day. To ensure that migrants understand the ramifications of irregular migration and the value of regular migration to the state and communities, not simply their family members, the government should actively engage migrants and maintain contact with them, rather than actively discouraging migration. The study concluded that many of the properties constructed in the neighbourhoods are owned or occupied by the immigrants and their families; it is undeniable that irregular migration has had an impact on numerous communities in the Delta and Edo States. Based on the study's findings and conclusions, the study made several recommendations, including that the governments of Delta and Edo State should appoint honourable people, notable figures, and bright academics to develop and carry out policies aimed at promoting migrants' interest in the establishment of infrastructure, including healthcare facilities, educational institutions, transportation, renewable energy, solar power, and modular refineries. In the foreseeable future, this will significantly lessen irregular migration in the Delta and Edo States

This study aims to map the development of research and scientific publications related to strategies to improve the quality of human resources in Indonesian government administration. This research uses the Sytematic Literature Review (SLR) approach by following the PRISMA protocol and analyzing 64 relevant scientific articles from the Dimension database, published in 2013-2024. The analysis was conducted using VOSviewer to identify topic clusters, related concepts. As well as research trends. The results revealed that there are five main clusters that are dominant and relevant in the development of human resources for government officials, namely: education, HR management, technology, digital literacy, bureaucratic reform, and public service innovation. The education cluster emerged as the most dominant theme, showing the importance of literacy and continuous training in supporting the digital transformation of the bureaucracy. This research makes a significant contribution to the development of ASN capacity building policies through a data-based approach and scientific trends. In addition, these findings also serve as a strategic reference in strengthening HR management systems and technology-based governance. The limitation of this study lies in the data source that only comes from the data dimension, so that the coverage of the literature does not represent the whole of various relevant sources. Therefore, future studies are advised to combine data from various reputable databases such as Scpus, Web of Science, and EBSCO for more comprehensive results. From the Dutch East Indies to the Cape: Mapping the Networks of 18th Century Slavery in South Africa

    No full text
This paper offers analysis of the forces shaped the emergence of slavery in the Dutch Cape Colony. Throughout African history, it appears that coercion was one of means of acquiring labour. In the Dutch Cape Colony, settlers relied on the coerced labour of slaves. According to Vijaya Teelock and Edward Alpers of the University of California, have stated of Mauritian slavery: “No study of language, culture, religion, social organization of slave and post-slave society can be scientific‘ unless it is underpinned by accurate empirical information about the origins of slaves,” the term “slave” referred to people with a specific status under the law, mainly individuals imported from India, Angola, Mozambique, Madagascar, and the Dutch East Indies. The Cape Colony at the southern tip of Africa offers valuable lessons on the emergence of the productive agricultural society in a pre-colonial setting. This paper posits that the Cape Colony of the eighteenth century was one of the most prosperous regions in the world and Cape farmers prospered, on average, because of the economies of scale and scope achieved through trans-Atlantic slave trade processes. Slaves allowed farmers to specialise in agricultural products that were in high demand from the passing ships. In exchange, farmers could import cheap manufactured products from Europe and the East. A conclusion reached in this paper is that the 18th century Dutch Cape Colony slavery gave rise to a relatively affluent settler society which continues to be affluent even to date. Full text link
AbstractThe application of data mining in libraries plays a crucial role in supporting data management and monitoring health protocols, especially during the pandemic. A key challenge faced by librarians is effectively monitoring visitors' mask usage compliance. This study aims to analyze visitors' facial images at the library using the Orange Data Mining application, enabling librarians to identify whether visitors are wearing masks. The approach involves collecting random facial images of visitors, preprocessing the data for standardization of size and resolution, extracting features using the Inception V3 model, and conducting hierarchical clustering analysis with the Manhattan metric. The clustering results are visualized in a dendrogram, helping to group the data. The findings show that the dendrogram clearly differentiates between visitors with masks and those without. This visualization provides librarians with an effective tool for monitoring areas of the library that require more strict health protocol supervision. The study concludes that the Orange Data Mining application offers a practical solution for libraries to monitor compliance with health protocols. By utilizing data mining techniques, libraries can enhance visitor safety and comfort. Further research is suggested to expand the dataset and explore other methods to improve analysis accuracy

Kata Kunci: Komposit serat karbon, curing, hand lay-up, vacuum bagging.ABSTRACTIssues in the transportation sector, such as traffic accidents, are partly caused by vehicles' poor ability to absorb impact energy. This highlights the need for lightweight materials with high mechanical strength, such as carbon fiber composites, for energy-efficient vehicle body applications. This study investigates the effect of curing time variations on the tensile and impact strength of carbon fiber composites made from 3K Twill 220 gsm carbon fiber and epoxy resin (resin:hardener ratio of 2:1). The composites were fabricated using Hand Lay-Up and Vacuum Bagging methods, with curing times of 30, 45, and 60 minutes at 100°C. Tensile tests followed ASTM D3039 and impact tests followed ASTM E23. The highest tensile strength 190,86 MPa was achieved at 60 minutes, For the impact test, the highest absorbed energy and impact toughness were achieved at 30 minutes of curing, with values of 1.339 J and 0.253 J/mm². Therefore, a curing time of 60 minutes provides maximum tensile strength, while a curing time of 30 minutes excels in impact toughness. The determination of the optimal curing time needs to be adjusted to the specific characteristic requirements. Keywords: carbon fiber composite, curing, hand lay-up, vacuum baggin
