Civil Engagement Versus Personal Preference in Election: A Mixed Methods Study in the Indigenous Community of Kampung Naga
This study aims to analyze the influence of civil engagement on the political preferences of the people in Kampung Naga during the 2024 regional head election process. Political preferences can reveal factors that influence a person's decision to participate in the regional head election. The study used a mixed method through the distribution of questionnaires and in-depth interviews with residents of Kampung Naga. The results showed that there was an influence between variables of 19%. This influence is very small. The researcher then studied it using a qualitative research approach. Some of the main reasons include traditional leaders who highly respect and give freedom to the community to choose, social changes in the form of modernization and changes in social values and access to various information such as social media. Factors such as personal preferences, family influences, and access to external information play a bigger role in shaping voter behavior. In the future, there needs to be further attention regarding social and cultural changes that can influence political behavior in traditional village communities. The recommendation in this study is to compare the implementation of elections in other indigenous communities in order to obtain comprehensive information regarding the influence of external culture and leadership on community behavior
Strategy of the Public Relations Team of LLDIKTI Region III in Enhancing Public Services in the Digitalization Era
This study aims to identify how the Public Relations (PR) team of LLDIKTI Region III designs strategies to improve public services in the digitalization era by launching the SIL@T application. This research employs the theory of Parasuraman, Zeithaml, and Berry (1998), which consists of five indicators that serve as the foundation for developing service quality improvement strategies: Tangibles (physical form), Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance, and Empathy. The study uses a qualitative descriptive method by conducting direct observations of the occurring phenomena. The findings indicate that LLDIKTI Region III has met the five indicators of service quality improvement, both in terms of infrastructure and direct services, as well as technology-based services through the launch of the SIL@T application. Moreover, the services provided, whether through face-to-face interactions or the SIL@T application, have received positive feedback from users
Regional Risks and Opportunities of Mining in the Asia-Pacific
The book Mining in the Asia-Pacific: Risks, Challenges and Opportunities, edited by Terry O’Callaghan and Geordan Graetz, offers a compelling and timely contribution to the study of extractive industries in one of the world’s most dynamic and contested regions. Mining in the Asia-Pacific is not merely an economic activity, it is a deep political, ecological, and cultural process that shapes the trajectories of states, communities, and environments. Drawing together a wide range of contributors, the volume presents a nuanced understanding of how the mining sector operates across multiple scales: from local land-use disputes to transnational commodity chains. O’Callaghan and Graetz, both scholars from the University of South Australia, frame mining not just as an industrial operation but as a site of ongoing contestation between competing logics, developmentalism, environmentalism, sovereignty, and capital accumulation. Organized into four thematic parts, Theorizing Risk in the Mining Industry, The Major Resources, The Major Issues, and Mitigating Risk, the volume offers a comprehensive structure that guides readers from conceptual reflections to empirical case studies. This format is effective in gradually unpacking the layered nature of mining-related risks. The first section lays a theoretical foundation by problematizing the notion of risk itself, drawing on interdisciplinary approaches from political economy, geography, and environmental studies. The middle sections delve into specific resources (such as coal, gold, and rare earths) and specific issues (including governance, Indigenous rights, and social activism). The final section turns to strategies for risk mitigation, such as regulatory reform, technological innovation, and community engagement, suggesting pathways toward more sustainable and equitable extractive practices
Impact of the Covid 19 Pandemic on the Quality of Good Local Government Governance in Indonesia
The aim of this research is to assess the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the quality of good local government governance. This study involved all provincial governments in Indonesia with observation years 2019 and 2020. The assessment of the quality of good regional governance was measured using the Principal Component Analysis method. The test was carried out by comparing the value of the good regional governance index in the year before the Covid-19 outbreak with the value of the good regional governance index in the year of the Covid-19 outbreak. The findings showed that the governance index of all provincial governments in 2020 decreased by an average of 0.68 points or 10.82% so that the Covid-19 Pandemic in Indonesia has reduced the quality of regional governance. Therefore, all stakeholders need to be more serious in building the principles of good governance from planning to control to maintain quality, even in crisis situations
EFFECT OF EXTRACTION METHODS ON PHENOLIC CONTENT AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF BAJAKAH ROOT (Spatholobus littoralis)
The Bajakah root (Spatholobus littoralis), a native plant of Kalimantan, is recognized for its phenolic content and antioxidant activity. This study aims to compare the effects of three extraction methods—maceration, soxhlet, and reflux—on the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of Bajakah root extracts. The plant material was extracted using 96% ethanol, followed by phenolic content analysis via the Folin-Ciocalteu method and antioxidant activity evaluation using the DPPH assay. Results revealed that the reflux method produced the highest phenolic content (17.6 ± 0.1 mg GAE/g extract) and the strongest antioxidant activity (IC50 of 26 ± 1 µg/mL). The soxhlet method yielded a phenolic content of 17.4 ± 0.2 mg GAE/g extract with an IC50 of 30 ± 0 µg/mL, while maceration resulted in the lowest phenolic content (14.6 ± 0.7 mg GAE/g extract) and an IC50 of 34 ± 2 µg/mL. The heating processes involved in the reflux and Soxhlet methods likely facilitated the degradation of glycosides, thereby enhancing phenolic content. All methods demonstrated exceptionally strong antioxidant activity (IC50 < 50 µg/mL). This study underscores the significant influence of extraction methods on the phenolic quality and antioxidant capacity of Bajakah root extracts
Analysis of the Role of Regional Government in Optimizing the School Operational Assistance Program (BOSP) Policy in Surabaya as a Strategy for Improving Education Quality
The development of the implementation of the School Operational Assistance Policy (BOSP) in Surabaya faces various challenges that affect policy optimization. This study aims to analyze the role of local government in optimizing the BOSP policy using Edward III's policy implementation theory, which includes communication, bureaucratic structure, resources, and the disposition or attitudes of implementers. This research employs a qualitative method by collecting data through in-depth interviews with informants from the education office and educational institutions in Surabaya, as well as documentation studies related to the BOSP policy. The study results show that communication contributes 68% to the success of the BOSP policy implementation, although there are still shortcomings in responsiveness and socialization. Bureaucratic structure contributes 72%, with major challenges in fragmented coordination between units and complex decision-making procedures. Resources contribute the highest at 74%, but limitations in staff competence and technological infrastructure remain significant obstacles. The disposition or attitudes of implementers contribute 73% to success, though deficiencies in discipline, integrity, and initiative are still evident. These four aspects indicate that while most elements have performed well, there is still room for improvement requiring serious attention to enhance policy effectiveness. The conclusion of this study is that optimizing the BOSP policy in Surabaya requires strengthening the four analyzed aspects. To address communication shortcomings, more structured and responsive socialization mechanisms are needed. Bureaucratic fragmentation can be resolved by simplifying procedures and integrating data management systems. Human resource and technological limitations must be addressed through intensive training and infrastructure investment. Finally, implementer disposition can be improved through development programs and supervision. These strategic recommendations can support the Surabaya local government in optimizing the implementation of the BOSP policy in a transparent, accountable, and effective manner to achieve better educational goals
Utilizing Serious Games as an Interactive Platform for Programming Learning in Informatics Students
Programming is a critical skill for informatics students, enabling them to design systems, develop software, and analyze user requirements. However, many students face significant challenges in understanding programming concepts and syntax, particularly during the initial stages of learning. These difficulties often stem from limited proficiency in reading, debugging, and writing code, coupled with low motivation and engagement in the learning process. To address these challenges, it is essential to adopt engaging and enjoyable instructional approaches. Serious games have proven to be an effective instructional method, enhancing students' motivation and engagement through game-based elements. This study introduces DolananCoding, a serious game developed as an interactive platform for teaching structured programming courses. DolananCoding incorporates two key features: live coding and a leaderboard, both designed to boost students' motivation and engagement in programming learning. The platform was rigorously evaluated through two testing methods: system testing and user testing. System testing validated the fulfillment of functional requirements, including modules, materials, and experience points, all of which met the expected standards. User testing assessed the platform's user satisfaction through a questionnaire administered to 76 students, yielding an average satisfaction score of 4.3 out of 5.0. These results indicate a positive reception among students, demonstrating the platform's readiness for integration into programming learning
The Impact of Education Curriculum Changes on Improving the Quality of Learning at SMAN 1 Sukadana, Ciamis Regency
The transition from the 2013 Curriculum to the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesia represents a significant shift in the educational landscape, aiming to provide greater flexibility and autonomy for schools to adapt teaching to student needs and local contexts. This study examines the impact of this curriculum change at SMAN 1 Sukadana, Ciamis Regency, focusing on its effects on pedagogical approaches, student engagement, and educational outcomes. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through questionnaires distributed to teachers and students. The findings indicate that the adoption of the Merdeka Curriculum has encouraged teachers to implement more innovative and interactive teaching methods, such as project-based and cooperative learning, which have significantly increased student engagement and motivation. However, challenges such as inadequate teacher readiness, resistance to new methodologies, and limited infrastructure were identified as key barriers to effective implementation. These findings align with Kotter's organizational change theory, emphasizing the importance of systematic support, continuous professional development, and collaboration among educators and school leadership to facilitate successful curriculum adoption. The study also applies constructivist learning theory and the ARCS motivation model, demonstrating that student-centered approaches enhance learning experiences and outcomes. Despite its contributions, the study acknowledges limitations in sample size and scope, suggesting the need for further longitudinal research to comprehensively assess the long-term impact of the Merdeka Curriculum across diverse educational settings. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and educators in refining curriculum strategies to better support teaching and learning processes

Benefits and Challenges of Implementing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in Education: A Systematic Literature Review
This study investigates two research questions: (1) What are the benefits of implementing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in educational settings? and
(2) What challenges are faced in implementing SEL within educational contexts? A systematic literature review was conducted by analyzing peer-reviewed articles published between 2019 and 2024 across databases such as Google Scholar, ERIC, ScienceDirect, and Garuda. The research design follows Tóth et al. (2023), applying the PICOC criteria (Population, Intervention, Comparator, Outcome, Context) and thematic analysis from international and Indonesian journals. Addressing the first research question, four key benefits of SEL emerged: (1) enhanced self-awareness and emotional regulation among Generation Z; (2) improved communication and intercultural collaboration in language learning; (3) academic gains through increased motivation, engagement, and critical thinking; and (4) promotion of equity through inclusive environments. In response to the second question, five significant challenges were identified: (1) limited teacher competence in SEL; (2) misaligned curriculum and assessment systems; (3) cultural and contextual barriers; (4) digital adaptation issues among Generation Z; and (5) rigid policies emphasizing narrow academic metrics. This review provides valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers to support effective SEL integration in educational contexts by offering a balanced synthesis of advantages and obstacles
