Awareness Campaign Through Art Exhibition (Case Study: Kala Kali Incognito – Heri Dono)
This research aims to analyze art exhibitions as an awareness campaign through metaphorical symbols in the artworks. One of art’s functions is as a medium of awareness because artists deliver paradigm waves through their art. Kala Kali Incognito is an exhibition held by Heri Dono. Through this exhibition, Heri Dono presents his paradigm on the condition of Indonesians during the COVID-19 breakout. This research has contributed knowledge to society about art. Art is not only about aesthetics but also as a signifier of issues in society. Moreover, this research can be used as an alternative idea for the next curation of an exhibition, especially for understanding societal issues through art. This study uses a descriptive approach and interpretative analysis by reading about the social situation during the exhibition. The result showed that the Kala Kali Incognito’s Exhibition by Heri Dono was held as a reflection of COVID-19 issues and played a role in awareness and reflection for society in 2020. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pameran seni rupa sebagai upaya penyadaran melalui simbol-simbol metafora dalam karya seni. Salah satu fungsi seni rupa adalah sebagai media penyadaran karena seniman menyampaikan gelombang paradigma melalui karya seninya. Kala Kali Incognito merupakan pameran yang diselenggarakan oleh Heri Dono. Melalui pameran ini, Heri Dono memaparkan paradigmanya tentang kondisi masyarakat Indonesia di tengah merebaknya COVID-19. Penelitian ini telah memberikan sumbangan pengetahuan kepada masyarakat tentang seni rupa. Seni rupa tidak hanya tentang estetika, tetapi juga sebagai penanda berbagai isu dalam masyarakat. Selain itu, penelitian ini dapat dijadikan sebagai alternatif ide untuk kurasi pameran selanjutnya, khususnya untuk memahami berbagai isu sosial melalui seni rupa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif dan analisis interpretatif dengan membaca situasi sosial selama pameran berlangsung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Pameran Kala Kali Incognito karya Heri Dono diselenggarakan sebagai refleksi atas isu-isu COVID-19 dan berperan dalam penyadaran dan refleksi bagi masyarakat pada tahun 2020
Concept (間) MA: Philosophical Identification and Analysis in Animated Films Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)
In the context of Japanese film, MA is an important concept to highlight because of its great influence on filmmaking and audience experience. In the visual arts, “MA” can be interpreted as “space” or “interval”; MA can also be said to be the core of aesthetic principles. The purpose of this study is to find and identify the philosophical aspects of the concept of MA in the scenes found in the animated film Howl’s Moving Castle (2004) to gain an understanding of visual aesthetics as well as to understand how the concept of MA works and is used in the visual aesthetics of Ghibli animated films. The research methodology on the concept of MA involves a multidimensional approach that includes visual language methods, literature study, and content analysis, as well as a combination of theories on emptiness and tensegrity structure. The analysis shows that the number of scenes containing MA factors is 17 scenes; the total scenes in the movie are about 2,301 scenes, with the assumption that each scene averages 3 seconds. The 17 scenes only take up a portion of 0.73%, a relatively flat number; then, if we take the duration of time for each scene, a value shows the total scene that contains MA factors is 333 Seconds or 5.55 minutes while the total duration of the Howl’s Moving Castle animated film is 01:55:05 minutes or about 6,905 seconds the MA transition scene is 4.8% of the total film. The research can provide an in-depth insight into the use of MA in the context of animated films, where it can provide an understanding of how seemingly simple visual elements, such as empty space, can have a strong impact on the audience’s experience and level of engagement, or understanding of the story and characters. Dalam konteks film Jepang, MA merupakan konsep yang penting disorot karena pengaruhnya yang besar terhadap pembuatan film dan pengalaman penonton. “MA” dapat diartikan sebagai “ruang” atau “interval”, yang juga sebagai inti dari prinsip estetika. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mencari dan mengidentifikasi aspek filosofis, konsep MA pada scene yang terdapat pada film animasi Howl’s Moving Castle (2004) untuk mendapatkan pemahaman tentang estetika visual sekaligus untuk memahami bagaimana konsep MA bekerja dan digunakan dalam estetika visual film-film animasi Ghibli. Metodologi penelitian tentang konsep MA melibatkan pendekatan multidimensi yang mencakup metode bahasa visual, studi literatur dan analisis konten, serta kombinasi teori tentang emptiness dan tensegrity structure. Analisis menunjukan banyaknya scene yang mengandung MA factor adalah 17 scene, total scene dalam film ada sekitar 2,301 scene dengan durasi rata-rata setiap scene sebesar 3 detik. 17 scene tersebut hanya memakan porsi sebesar 0.73 %, dengan total scene yang terdapat MA faktor sebanyak 333 Second atau 5.55 menit sedangkan total dari durasi film animasi Howl’s Moving Castle sebanyak 01:55:05 menit atau sekitar 6,905 detik maka scene transisi MA sebesar 4.8 % dari total keseluruhan film. Penelitian ini dapat memberikan wawasan mendalam tentang penggunaan MA dalam konteks film animasi, dimana hal tersebut dapat memberikan pemahaman bagaimana elemen-elemen visual yang tampak sederhana, seperti ruang kosong, dapat memberikan dampak yang kuat terhadap pengalaman penonton dan tingkat keterlibatan, atau pemahaman penonton terhadap cerita dan karakter
Divorce Representation in Hindia’s Video Clip Version of “Alexandra”
In the growing digital age, video clips serve as a promotional tool for music and can also be used to deliver complex social messages to audiences. Through their video clip titled “Alexandra”, Hindia describes how divorce affects the psychological condition of children to adulthood. The problem formulation of this study is how the child’s representation as a victim of divorce in Hindia’s video clip “Alexandra” is characterized by a qualitative descriptive method. Through Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory approach, non-verbal signs can be used to see a picture of the feelings and emotions of a character in a divorce story and reveal how hidden messages are represented through visual composition in a video clip. The commercial is interesting to be thorough because it features a social reality. The current issue of divorce is that of a child as a victim. The symbols are then examined along with the study of literature so that they can produce understandable interpretations. The conclusion of this study is to educate the public on the social issues of divorce so that it can encourage them to have critical thinking and move social action. Dalam era digital yang semakin berkembang, video klip tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai alat promosi musik semata, tetapi juga dapat digunakan sebagai sarana untuk menyampaikan pesan-pesan sosial yang kompleks kepada audiens. Hal tersebut dilakukan oleh salah satu musisi Indonesia, Hindia. Melalui video klipnya yang berjudul “Alexandra”, Hindia menggambarkan bagaimana dampak perceraian terhadap kondisi psikologis anak hingga dewasa. Rumusan masalah dari penelitian ini adalah bagaimana representasi anak sebagai korban perceraian dalam video klip Hindia versi “Alexandra” yang dikupas dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Melalui pendekatan teori semiotika Roland Barthes, tanda-tanda non-verbal dapat diungkap untuk melihat gambaran perasaan serta emosi dari karakter dalam kisah perceraian serta mengungkap bagaimana pesanpesan tersembunyi direpresentasikan melalui komposisi visual dalam video klip. Iklan ini menarik untuk teliti karena menampilkan realitas sosial terkini, yaitu isu perceraian yang dikemas dari sudut pandang anak sebagai korban. Simbol-simbol di dalamnya kemudian dikaji bersama dengan studi literatur sehingga dapat menghasilkan interpretasi yang dapat dipahami. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah untuk menyadarkan masyarakat mengenai isu sosial perceraian sehingga dapat mendorong mereka untuk memiliki pemikiran kritis serta menggerakkan tindakan sosial
The Construction of Masculinity Myths in the Namin Group's Bajidoran Arena as a Specific Gender Order"
The Sundanese people have long recognized bajidoran as an entertainment art form that presents the aesthetics of dance and traditional Sundanese music (karawitan). However, beneath this surface lies the complexity of power struggles and masculine domination among individuals involved in the Bajidoran Enthusiast Community (Komunitas Pecinta Bajidoran or KPB). Interestingly, the power struggles are not limited to men but also involve women. This phenomenon prompts an inquiry into why bajidoran is heavily associated with practices of masculinity. This study aims to address the following questions: why is bajidoran associated with practices of masculinity, how is this construction process carried out, what are the contributing factors, and what are the implications for the KPB? This research employs a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, wherein the researcher values the experiences and realities of the subjects under study, even if they differ radically from their own. The researcher applies three characteristics of this new ethnography: honesty, towards other facts, self-reflection, and polyvocality. Data collection involves literature review, observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings of the research explain that: 1) masculinity is strongly embedded in bajidoran due to: firstly, cultural, daily practices, and historical contexts that construct masculinity, which are dialectically intertwined with the experiences of the KPB, both present and past. Secondly, the situational and practical conditions within the bajidoran arena (social relations and interactions) have great potential to generate masculinity. 2) The process of constructing masculinity involves seven stages: production, socialization, appreciation, internalization and externalization, relationships and interactions, staging, and formation. Eight factors contribute to the construction of masculinity: patterns/sequences, the role of the mc and pesinden (vocalists), pencug ibing (leader), kendang (drum), selendang (scarf), economic capital, alcoholic beverages, and musical elements. The results of this research provide insights for the Bajidoran Enthusiast Community and relevant institutions to reconstruct the staging of masculinity in a way that accommodates gender equality
Social-Engaged Art in Indonesia: Many in One, Nurturing Diversity & Inclusion
This research describes three socially engaged art practices of three collectives, Gubuak Kopi (Solok, West Sumatera), Festival Film Bahari (Cirebon, West Java) and Forum Sudut Pandang (Palu, Central Sulawesi), which were located in rural-urban area in Indonesia. The practices of these collectives that are established after 2010 were then read along the concept of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. This research method is guided by the question: How did “many, but one” emerge in the practice of social arts and who benefits from it? The narratives were built by centralizing the perspectives of art practitioners on their motivations and aims, instead of analyzing certain case studies. The method of this paper is interview and desk review. Based on the research observations, the researchers try to provide a perspective on how cultural promotion programs have an impact on community movements outside the big cities. Seni Berpenampilan Sosial di Indonesia: Ragam dalam Satu, Memelihara Kebhinekaan & Inklusi. Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan tiga praktik seni yang terlibat secara sosial dari tiga kolektif yakni Gubuak Kopi (Solok, Sumatera Barat), Festival Film Bahari (Cirebon, Jawa Barat) and Forum Sudut Pandang (Palu, Sulawesi Tengah) yang berada di daerah rural-urban di Indonesia. Tiga praktik dari kolektif yang muncul setelah 2010 ini kemudian dibaca dalam kaitannya dengan konsep Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Penelitian ini dipandu dengan pertanyaan: bagaimana “banyak namun satu” muncul dalam praktik seni yang terlibat secara sosial di Indonesia, dan siapa yang diuntungkan oleh praktik ini? Narasi dibangun dengan memusatkan perhatian pada perspektif praktisi seni atas motivasi dan tujuan berkaryanya, alih-alih menganalisis studi kasus tertentu. Metode penelitian yang diterapkan adalah wawancara dan studi pustaka. Berdasarkan hasil observasi, peneliti menawarkan pandangan akan bagaimana program pemajuan kebudayaan memberikan pengaruh pada pergerakan komunitas di luar kota-kota besar
Autoethnography In Photography Research Of The Self
The focus of this research is to describe a concept of auto-ethnographic research that is based on an understanding of the ethnographic view. The aim is to encourage those with a background in the arts to get detailed information about this type of auto-ethnographic research. The urgency is to strengthen auto-ethnography into artistic research (about art) from their own experiences. The research departs from the literature review. Data was obtained through literature research by relying on primary data in the form of an article entitled An Autoethnography on Learning About Autoethnography. This article was written by Sarah Wall (2006). The work, Fitting the Methodology with the Research: An exploration of narrative, self-study and Autoethnography written by Mary Lynn Hamilton, Laura Smith & Kristen Worthington (2008) as supporting methodology. The work Artistic Research: The Thoughts And Ideas Of Mika Hannula written by Guntur (2020) to support the artistic. The case study used Self-Reflection in Mirrors in Photographic Works by Sepba Fri Atnin. (2018). The results of the study are first the concept of research on qualitative data sources that come from the researchers themselves. Second, its application in the field of arts such as recording media arts, visual arts, fine arts, dance, and performing arts.

South Korean beauty standards enter Indonesia through the South Korean entertainment industry, such as serial dramas, K-pop, which is often referred to as the hallyu industry. Beauty is often a social issue used in a South Korean drama series. One of the South Korean drama series that raises about beauty standards in South Korea entitled 'True Beauty'. This drama series is about how beautiful standards in South Korea are acceptable when interacting socially. This drama also has an impact to Indonesia, which is now can be reference for beauty. After this drama, there were many Indonesian beauty vloggers who created content related to beauty which was shown in the drama series 'True Beauty'. By using the of artistic elements of television, this research will see how the picture of beauty in the drama series 'True Beauty'. This research results in how the artistic elements of television are applied in the depiction of beauty in the South Korean tv series drama 'True Beauty'. This study also produces a picture of beauty based on the perspective of the role of other characters when interacting socially with the main character who is not physically beautiful and beautiful because of make-up, which results in three points of view, namely the meaning of beauty, beautiful self-assessment and beautiful judgment of others
The Application Of The Solfegio Method In Learning Major Instrument Practice (string) II In The Music Education Study Program, Department Of Music, Faculty Of Language And Arts, Universitas Negeri Padang
This study aims to determine whether the application of the solfegio method can improve the ability of student learning outcomes in aiming for tone in the practical learning course of major string instruments 2 of the Department of Sendratasik Music Education Study Program FBS UNP. The type of research is classroom action research (PTK) or classroom action research collaboratively using the Kemmis and Mctaggart cycle. The research subjects were students of the 2022 batch of major string instrument practice II (PIM 2) music education study program FBS UNP. The research procedure is planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. Research instruments in the form of assessment test criteria sheets. Data collection techniques literature study, observation, practice assessment tests, documentation. Quantitative descriptive data analysis technique. The results showed: (1) the pre-cycle average score was 56.2 in the sufficient category (C) = incomplete (2) in cycle 1 was 67 in the sufficient category (B-) = incomplete, (3) in cycle 2 was 79.4 = complete. Students experienced an increase in cycle 1 of 10.8 and in cycle 2 of 12.4. The research was successful in cycle 2 meeting 2 and the results were significant. It can be concluded that the ability of students to aim for notes in playing string instruments has increased after taking action by applying the solfegio method. So the solfegio method can be applied in learning the practice of playing string instruments. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat, mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan bagaimana manfaat penerapan metode solfegio pada pembelajaran praktek instrumen mayor gesek di Prodi Pendidikan Musik Departemen Sendratasik Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Padang. Objek penelitian yaitu metode solfegio (sight reading dan ear training). Subjek penelitian yaitu mahasiswa instrumen mayor gesek 1 semester 2. Jenis penelitian adalah kualitatif dengan metode studi pustaka. Data di diperoleh melalui (1.) observasi, (2.) wawancara, (3.) dokumentasi, dan (4) studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebagian besar mahasiswa instrumen mayor gesek tidak tepat dalam membidik nada. Metode solfegio (sight reading dan ear training) merupakan upaya membantu mahasiswa dalam meningkatkan musikalitas dan kemampuan bermain instrumen gesek sehingga dapat meminimalisir atau mengatasi kendala yang dihadapi saat memainkan instrumen gesek. Latihannya berupa membaca pola ritme dengan mengubah nilai not menjadi lebih sederhana, latihan mendengar dan memainkan interval nada 1, 2 atau lebih nada, latihan tangga nada, latihan membaca melodi pada lagu per birama. Proses latihan menggunakan tempo media bantu piano dan media audio visual sebagai pengiring. Latihan dilakukan secara rutin dan teratur menggunakan instrumen gesek. Maka dari itu metode solfegio dalam pembelajaran instrumen mayor gesek dapat memberikan manfaat yang baik dalam proses meningkatkan kualitas permainan mahasiswa baik dalam segi membaca pola ritme maupun mendengarkan nada.
Exploring the Philosophy and Forms of Traditional Balinese Architecture at Badung Market
After the fire disaster, Badung market was rebuilt by applying the values of Balinese local wisdom. It was designed through an integrated synergy of regional arrangement within the Badung market, Kumbasari market, and the arrangement of the Tukad Badung to support the concept of a heritage city tour in Denpasar City. The philosophical concept used is tapak dara and padu raksa. The concept of values and architectural forms uses the Triangga, the Trimandala, the Sanga Mandala, and the Tri Hita Karana concepts. The forms of the entrance uses the bintang aring concept. It is combined with the kayon form as a symbol of balance, horizontal and vertical for human life. The concept of Balinese traditional architectural decoration uses bebadungan decorations. This research was with a qualitative exploratory method Researchers also found modernization towards more advanced changes with rational, effective, efficient, and economic principles. This is evidenced in the use ornaments made of Glass Reinforced Concrete, elevator facilities, and escalators. In addition, Badung market was designed to be more modern and universal with a children's play room, lactation room, emergency stairs, accessible toilets, and other facilities.Menjelajahi Filosofi dan Bentuk Arsitektur Tradisional Bali di Pasar Badung. Pascabencana kebakaran, Pasar Badung dibangun dengan menerapkan nilai kearifan lokal Bali. Didesain melalui sinergitas penataan kawasan secara terpadu antara Pasar Badung, Pasar Kumbasari, dan penataan tukad Badung untuk menunjang konsep tur kota pusaka (heritage city tour) Kota Denpasar. Konsep filosofis yang digunakan adalah tapak dara sebagai simbol keseimbangan dan padu raksa sebagai makna stabilitas perputaran ekonomi masyarakat untuk peningkatan kesejahteraan. Konsep tata nilai dan bentuk bangunan menggunakan konsep triangga, trimandala, sanga mandala, dan tri hita karana. Bentuk pintu masuk pada bangunan utama menggunakan konsep bintang aring dengan bebatelan di kiri dan kanan. Bintang aring difilosofikan sebagai pintu yang bercahaya bagai bintang sehingga terlihat monumental, berestetika, dan menambah kesan oriental. Bintang aring dikombinasikan dengan bentuk kayon sebagai lambang keseimbangan, horisontal dan vertikal bagi kehidupan manusia. Konsep ragam hias arsitektur tradisional Bali menggunakan ragam hias bebadungan. Ragam hias ini didesain untuk menciptakan identitas jati diri Kota Denpasar. Peneliti juga menemukan kehidupan modernisasi dengan prinsip rasional, efektif, efisien, dan ekonomis. Hal ini dibuktikan pada penggunaan ornamen dari bahan Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC), fasilitas elevator, dan eskalator. Selain itu Pasar Badung didesain lebih modern dan universal dengan adanya ruang bermain anak, ruang laktasi, tangga darurat, toilet aksesibel, dan fasilitas lainnya
Adaptation of Pramoedya Ananta Toer's Novel Arok Dedes into Concept Art
This research aims to obtain the creation of exploration resulting from the adaptation of the narrative text to the visual book novel Arok Dedes. The method used in this research is applied research, which is to apply basic research for practical purposes, in this case, the design of concept art. Data is collected and compiled by studying libraries related to concept art from textbooks and virtual libraries. The result of this study is that the adaptation of text narrative to visual in concept art requires a comprehensive exploration of starting to develop the concept of space transfer, visual reference, character study, and good mood board. Through the results of this study, it is expected that the exploration of the concept of designing text adaptation to visual concept art can be studied and used as a guide for illustrators who are interested in becoming concept artists, game artists, and character art visualizers. Adaptasi Novel Arok Dedes Karya Pramoedya Ananta Toer dalam Concept Art. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan konsep penciptaan eksplorasi hasil adaptasi narasi teks ke visual novel Arok Dedes karya Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian terapan, yakni mengaplikasikan penelitian dasar untuk keperluan praktis dalam hal ini perancangan seni konsep (concept art). Data dikumpulkan dan dikompilasi melalui studi pustaka terkait seni konsep baik dari buku maupun pustaka digital. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa adaptasi narasi teks ke visual dalam seni konsep memerlukan eksplorasi yang komprehensif mulai dari menyusun konsep alih wahana, referensi visual, studi karakter dan mood board yang tepat. Melalui hasil penelitian ini diharapkan eksplorasi konsep perancangan adaptasi teks ke visual seni konsepdapat dipelajari dan digunakan sebagai panduan bagi ilustrator yang tertarik untuk menjadi seniman konsep, seniman gim (game artist) dan pengrajin karakter visual (visualizer art character)
