    Effect of L1 Use on Students Essay Writing Performance (EWP) in English Language Classroom

    This study examined the effects of first language (L1) use on students EWP in an English language (L2) classroom. Utilizing an experimental design, data was collected through pretests, posttests, and interviews. The participants were second-year undergraduate students majoring in Dawro Doonaa and enrolled in a Sophomore English course. Originally, all sixty-eight students were in one section, divided into two sections for this study. To establish similar baseline levels, a pretest was administered, and students were grouped based on their scores. Their EWP was evaluated through a posttest, and interviews with two instructors provided insights into their views on L1 use in students writing. The data analyzed with a t-test in SPSS version 26 showed that students who were allowed to use their L1 in the English classroom performed significantly better than those in an English-only setting. Thus, it is suggested that L2 teachers in bilingual environments should consider a strategic and optimal use of students L1

    The Indonesian Learning Style Inventories from the Viewpoint of EFL Students

    The primary goal of this research is to examine the learning style inventories of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students at Muhammadiyah University and to discuss how these tactics relate to various learning style traits. This research was conducted among students at Muhammadiyah University in Makassar, Indonesia. A questionnaire was distributed to 69 students, who were randomly selected from a population of 120 based on the Slovin formula. The study is part of a larger mixed-methods research initiative, with quantitative results reported in other publications. The qualitative insights gathered from interviews reveal that students exhibit a diverse array of learning methods influenced primarily by three key sensory modalities: storing, remembering, and recalling information. These findings have a substantial impact on the process of English language teaching, suggesting that tailoring instructional strategies to fit these identified learning styles can lead to more effective teaching practices and enhanced classroom engagement. Furthermore, the research contributes significantly to the broader study of language and communication learning inventories within educational and language training contexts, providing vital insights that can inform educators on how to adapt their teaching methods to meet the varied needs of their learners more effectively. Overall, this study underscores the importance of understanding learning styles in fostering a conducive learning environment

    The Development of E-Pocket Book based on iSpring Suite 11 Software

    The E-Pocket Book, developed using iSpring Suite 11 software, functions as an innovative learning resource specifically tailored for Civil Engineering students. The primary objective of this research was to create an effective educational tool to enhance the learning experience for these students. This study employed a Research and Development (RD) approach, utilizing the ADDIE Development Model, which comprises five systematic stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. A sample of 87 students participated in this research, providing valuable feedback and insights. The validation process, conducted by both media and material experts, indicated a positive reception toward the E-Pocket Book, affirming its feasibility as an effective learning medium. Additionally, students' responses were gathered using the System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaire, which reflected a high level of acceptance and usability, yielding an impressive score of 82.5, categorized as grade B (Excellent). The comprehensive research findings demonstrate that the E-Pocket Book created with iSpring Suite 11 is not only suitable but also advantageous for Civil Engineering students in their English language learning journey. By integrating modern technology with educational resources, this project significantly enhances the academic experience and proficiency of students in the field of Civil Engineering

    Enhancing Listening Skills of English Department Students in West Aceh through the Cake Application

    In an era where English proficiency has become a crucial skill for personal, academic, and professional success, the Cake application offers a unique blend of language learning and gamification. This study aimed to investigate the applications contribution to improvements in the listening skills of English department students of STAIN Teungku Dirundeng Meulaboh, West Aceh, Indonesia, and their perceptions and attitudes towards using the Cake application for improving their listening skills. The research design employed was a survey involving 20 students enrolled in the Intermediate Listening Class and Advanced Listening Class. The data collection was done by using an online questionnaire. The results indicate that the Cake application successfully enhanced the listening skills of a significant number of participants, with most of the respondents reporting positive outcomes and improvements in their comprehension of spoken English. Students also perceived the Cake application achieved a massive uptake by its users.The site is user-friendly, and interactive and discusses issues about EFL learners.In addition, users could use various English accents and dialects while listening.In essence, many users affirmed that they experienced great benefits by using the Cake app to enhance their listening capabilities. However, the finding also indicated that some students perceived the Cake application as boring and needed innovation and improvement in existing learning methods to address potential boredom among learners

    Perceptions of Student Misbehavior and Restitution Practices in Addressing Primary School Misconduct at Madania Makassar

    Fostering a conducive classroom atmosphere is challenging for teachers aiming for ready, attentive, and productive student behavior. While various teaching strategies are employed to achieve learning objectives, not all effectively address the issue of student misbehavior. Classroom management, particularly addressing misbehavior, is a common challenge for teachers. Madania School emphasizes teacher training to manage students both during and outside lesson periods. This study explores teachers' perceptions of student misbehavior, their handling strategies, and the implementation of restitution through qualitative research involving interviews and surveys with SD Madania School teachers. The findings reveal a thorough analysis of teachers' perceptions through collaborative discussions, seeking solutions for enhanced student performance. Teachers employ diverse methods, including rewards, punishment, and restitution, for effective student management. Notably, experienced teachers favor restitution, which fosters heightened student awareness of mistakes and promotes improved performance and a positive class environment. The study emphasizes the importance of effective teacher practices, particularly restitution, in addressing misbehavior and cultivating a conducive learning atmosphere

    Within the educational setting of Chinese society, the study of teaching strategies holds a prominent position, capturing considerable scholarly interest, particularly in the setting of higher vocational education. Despite the attention devoted to teaching strategies, there exists a noticeable gap in understanding the motivation of teachers to employ these strategies and the factors influencing their choices, especially within the context of higher vocational education. Furthermore, insufficient research has been conducted on the distinctive characteristics of higher vocational education students and the backgrounds of teachers in higher vocational colleges. This paper aims to address these gaps by conducting a thorough review of existing literature on English teachers teaching motivation and the influencing factors in higher vocational colleges. Through the synthesis of relevant literature, the study seeks to shed light on the research deficiencies and the significance of exploring the motivation behind teaching strategies in higher vocational education settings. By bridging these gaps, the research contributes valuable insights that can inform educational practices and policy development in the dynamic landscape of higher vocational education in China. The outcomes of this study hold the potential to reshape educational paradigms and enhance the effectiveness of pedagogical approaches in higher vocational institutions, fostering a more enriching learning environment for both educators and students alike

    Assessing the Role of Literary Texts in Students Cultural Awareness, Historical Understanding, and Challenges Faced by EFL Students

    Literary texts play a crucial role in language classrooms by offering engaging narratives and diverse cultural perspectives that enhance language learning and deepen understanding of cultural and historical contexts. This study investigated the impact of literary texts on cultural awareness and historical experience among 76 undergraduate EFL students selected through availability sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires and interviews with both students and instructors to assess cultural awareness, historical understanding, and challenges faced with literary texts. Quantitative data were analyzed statistically, while qualitative data from interviews were thematically analyzed. The findings revealed that students recognized the positive influence of literary texts on their cultural and historical appreciation. However, a significant gap exists between theoretical understanding and practical application, attributed to challenges such as linguistic complexities, unfamiliar cultural references, and insufficient instructional support. To address these issues, the study recommends integrating interactive discussions and activities that connect literary themes to real-world contexts, enhancing language comprehension support, and fostering a collaborative classroom environment that encourages critical thinking. Additionally, incorporating multimedia resources and diverse literary genres can boost engagement and broaden students perspectives on the cultural and historical themes presented in texts. These strategies aim to deepen students understanding of literature and improve their ability to apply theoretical concepts effectively in language education
