    A correlation between students’ morphological awareness and their accuracy in writing recount text

    The purpose of this study is to find out whether there is a significant correlation between students’ morphological awareness and their accuracy in writing recount text. This is quantitative research by using ex-post facto design. The population of the research was the students of the first grade of SMAN 1 Way Jepara. The researcher took five students from each ten classes as sample by using lottery, so total sample of students were 50. There were two instruments; the first test was morphological awareness test adapted from McBride-Chang et al. (2005) and Zakaria (2008) and the second test was writing a recount text test for measuring the students’ accuracy in writing. The data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation in SPSS version 25. The result of the correlation analysis showed there was a significant correlation between students’ morphological awareness and their accuracy in writing recount text with coefficient correlation was higher than the critical value (0.798>0.297) at significant level .01. It means that the H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected.     The use of Wattpad media to increase students’ reading narrative text comprehension at SMK Miftahul Huda Cilegon

    This research aims to find out i) the significant difference in students’ reading comprehension of narrative text after being taught by using Wattpad media ii) the students’ response in relation to the use of Wattpad. The subjects of the research were 21 students of SMK Miftahul Huda in the first-grade level as a sample by employing quantitative research with reading tests and questionnaires for the data collection. After analyzing the data, the results showed that the pre-test mean score reached 54.45 and the post-test mean score reached 73.27 with the gain is 18.82. In which, the data were analyzed both statistically through a Paired Samples T-test and also descriptively through a descriptive analysis. Based on the statistical analysis, it indicates that the increase is significant because the t-value is 8.883 and the t-table score is 2.069, t-value is higher than t-table. In summary, the result of study found that Wattpad is significant to improve reading particularly in identifying reference. Furthermore, the students showed positive response after doing the treatments. The improvement was shown in all aspects of reading, especially aspect of identifying reference. From the results, it can be concluded that reading through Wattpad can improve reading narrative text comprehension among the students in the first grade of Vocational High School.Keywords: reading, Wattpad media, narrative tex

    A correlative study between students’ listening habit with English songs and their vocabulary mastery at SMAN 16 Bandar Lampung

    This research was intended to find out whether there is any significant correlation between students’ listening habit with English songs and their vocabulary mastery. This research was quantitative, and the design was ex-post facto design; so, there was no treatment in this research. The population of this research was the second grade students of SMAN 16 Bandar Lampung. 30 students of XI Science 1 were taken as samples through the use of cluster random sampling. A listening habit with English song questionnaire and a vocabulary test were used to obtain the data. Moreover, the data was analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation in SPPS 20.0. The result of analysis showed that there was a positive and significant correlation between students’ listening habit with English songs and their vocabulary mastery since the r-value (0.770) was higher than the r-table (0.361). It means that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. This indicates that the more students listen to English songs, the higher their vocabulary score. Moreover, for those who are used to listen to English songs, it is likely to be easier for them to comprehend what they hear. As a conclusion, the habit of listening with English songs helps the development of vocabulary mastery

    The implementation of Mind mapping technique in teaching reading comprehension

    Reading is one of the important skills which should be mastered by students. At the same time, the students have difficulties learning a foreign language. Also, it is believed that every student has a different capacity for learning a foreign language. Therefore, this research aims to find out whether there is a significant difference in students’ reading ability after the implementation of mind mapping in learning reading comprehension and to find out the difficulties of students in learning reading comprehension through mind mapping as the media. In collecting the data the researcher used a reading comprehension test and interview, and the data were analyzed using SPSS program.The result of this research showed that the students’ scores have increased and the T-test revealed that the results are significant; t (two-sided p ) =001 at a significance level of 0.05 (p=001, p<0.05). The data shows that the degree of freedom is 27, the t-value is 6.091 and the t-table is 2.051 with a significance level of 5%, which means the T-Value is higher. It can be concluded that there is a significance improvement between pre-test scores and post-test scores of students’ reading comprehension ability after implementation of the mind mapping technique in teaching reading comprehension

    Improving Students' Vocabulary Mastery Through Short Movie of The Fisrt Grade Students at SMAN 15 Bandar Lampung

    Vocabulary is one of the English components that needs to be mastered by the learners, yet most of the students have big problems in mastering vocabulary. Based on the researcher’s observation during PLP, it was found that at X and XI class had lack of vocabularies. The objectives of this research were to find out i) the significant improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery after being taught through short movie at the first grade of SMAN 15 Bandar Lampung and ii) the type of vocabulary which improves the most. The approach of this research was quantitative. There were 30 students of the first grade chosen. Vocabulary tests were used to collect the data. The researcher used a single group pretest-posttest design. The data were also computed by using SPSS 25.0 for Windows. The result showed that the mean of students’ vocabulary score was getting higher after the teacher utilized short movie, by having the number of 77.13. In addition, the gain of the test was 0.1832. It was found out that the students got higher enhancement in mastering the words of verb. The gain for this aspect was 0.25824.     Improving students’ speaking achievement through the implementation of blended learning using YouTube media at UPT SMAN 3 Empat Lawang

    The objectives of this research were to find out the significant improvement of students’ speaking achievement after the implementation of blended learning through YouTube media and to investigate the students’ responses toward it. This research was conducted at UPT SMAN 3 Empat Lawang and XI Science 1 consisting of 36 students was chosen as the sample of this research. This research used One Group Time Series Design of Quasi-Experimental as the research design. A series of pre-test and post-test was conducted to get the findings and answer the research question. The result of pre and post-tests showed that the students’ scores increased with the highest scores came from post-test 3 after the third treatment using YouTube. This result indicated that there was a significant improvement in students’ speaking achievement after the use of blended learning through YouTube media since the significant value is lower than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05). Besides, this research also used a close-ended questionnaire with 4 scales (strongly agree, agree, disagree, and strongly disagree) to know the students’ responses to the implementation of blended learning through YouTube media in speaking class. The findings showed that the percentage of students’ choices in most items of the questionnaire was categorized as positive. The positive responses support the result of the improvement in students’ speaking achievement and prove the use of blended learning through YouTube is not only help the students to improve but also meet students’ need.     The correlation between students’ motivation and their vocabulary size at eleventh grade

    This research aims to find the correlation between students’ motivation and vocabulary size and investigate the extent to which student motivation affects students’ vocabulary size. This research is quantitative research by using the correlation method. In taking the sample, the researcher used the purposive sampling technique. The number of the sample is 30 students at XI IPA 1 SMA N 1 Jati Agung. The instrument of this research was a questionnaire and vocabulary size test. There were 50 multiple-choice items for the vocabulary size test and 30 items for the students’ motivation questionnaire. The finding showed that there is correlation between students’ motivation and their vocabulary size. The coefficient correlation was higher than the critical value of the r-table (0.708>0.361). It also found that students with high motivation could get 30% - 60% higher scores than students with low motivation; it assumed that student’ motivation affects students’ vocabulary size.doi: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v10.i3.20211

    The effect of using Scrabble Game on students’ vocabulary mastery through blended learning at the eleventh grade of SMAN 14 Bandar Lampung

    This research was aimed to find out whether there is any significant improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery after using of scrabble games, and how are students’ response in learning vocabulary after using of scrabble games.The subjects of the research were 32 students of class XI at SMAN 14 Bandar Lampung. One group pre-test post-test design was used in this research. The researcher conducted the research in six meetings which consisted of try out test, pre-test, three times of treatment, and post-test. The data were analyzed by using Repeated Measure T-Test in which the significance was determined by p<0.05 and hypothesis testing was computed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS).Based on the calculation, the result of the research showed that the mean score of pre-tests is 77.625 and the post-test is 84.0625 in which the gain is 6.4375. The results of t-value (10.376) is higher than t-table (2.0395) and the value of two-tailed significance is 0.000 < 0.05. It showed that the hypothesis is accepted that is, there is a significant improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery after the use of guessing games. The result also shows that the most improving aspect of vocabulary is verb with the mean score of pre-tests is 77.86 and the mean score of post-tests is 86.46. The improvement of the verb is 8.60 with the percentage is 33.74%. Moreover, the researcher used the open-ended questionnaire to find the students’ responses in learning vocabulary by using a scrabble game. The result of the questionnaire showed that the majority of the students work with no pressure, have some fun, and get some new information.     The correlation between peer interaction and students’ English proficiency at SMAN 5 Bandar Lampung

    This research is aimed to investigate the correlation between peer interaction and students’ English proficiency. This research is conducted in SMAN 5 Bandar Lampung with the population of eleventh grader students. The sample of this research is obtained by cluster random sampling technique. The cluster chosen from the cluster random sampling is 11 MIPA 3 with 36 objects. To analyze the correlation between peer interaction and students’ English proficiency, the researcher used Pearson Correlation Coefficient analysis. Results are based on the guiding of the research questions. Based on the data obtained, 38.9% of the students have good English proficiency. To test the significance of the correlation, the r is 0.728 and the N is 36. Based on the result of the analysis, it is found that there is a strong correlation between peer interaction and students’ English proficiency since r=0.728. According to the testing of significance which has been done by the research, it resulted that the alternative hypothesis is accepted

    Improving reading comprehension using descriptive text related to the local culture at the second grade of SMA Negeri 14 Bandar Lampung

    This research was aimed to find out whether there is significant difference after the implementation of descriptive text related to the local culture toward students’ reading comprehension and to investigate how the students’ appraisal after the implementation. Adapting quantitative approach, this research was conducted through one group pre-test and post-test design. The result showed that there was significant difference of students’ reading comprehension after they were taught through descriptive text related to the local culture concerning the gain of their score from the first to the second test. It could be seen from the computation that the significant value of the test were lower than alpha (0.00<0.05) while the t-value (9.342) was higher than t-table (2.0322). It was also revealed that students had a positive appraisal after the implementation. It could be seen from the computation that frequency of students above 70% with range frequency (70-100%) who had a high appraisal were 25 and the frequency of students under 55% with range frequency (1-54%) who had a low appraisal were 6. Most of the students accepted the implementation of descriptive text related to the local culture. Thus, local culture can be used as reading material in teaching and learning English. The students have a good score after implementation and they also enjoyed the activities and learning process of reading that has been provided.doi: 10.23960/UJET.v11i2.20220
