The correlation between students' frequency of listening English songs and students vocabulary mastery
This research was aimed to know : "The Correlation Between Students Frequency of Listening English Songs And Students Vocabulary Mastery". SMAN 10 Bandar Lampung in academic year 2020/2021. The research method of this research was a quantitative. The population of the research was the eleven grade students of SMAN 10 Bandar Lampung in academic year 2020/2021, the number of students was 35 students. The researcher gave a questionnaire to know students frequency of listening English songs, and test to know the students vocabulary mastery. The data that has been gathered was analyzed by Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Data Analysis shows that there is significant correlation between two variable since p<0.05 (p=0.342). It can be happened because most of students use their time to listening English songs and it can enrich their vocabulary. Keywords: Frequency of Listening English Songs, Vocabulary Master
Improving students' writing achievement in descriptive text through FRESH technique at the first grade of SMPN 32 Bekasi
The objectives of this research were to find out whether there is a significant improvement in students' writing achievement of descriptive text because of using FRESH (Fact, Reason, Elaboration, and Shift) and to determine which aspect of writing improves the most. The population of this research was the first grade students of SMPN 32 Bekasi in the academic year 2021/2022. The sample of this research was class VII I which consisted of 29 students. This research was quantitative research by using One Group Pre-test and Post-test Design. The writing test was used as the instrument for pre-test and post-test. The data were taken from the test and they were analyzed by using Paired Sample T-test. The result of this research showed there is a significant improvement of students’ writing achievement of descriptive text after the implementation of FRESH since the value of the significant level was 0.00 that lower than 0.05. On the other hand, all aspects of writing improved regarding the results, but the organization was improved the most. Briefly, it could be concluded that FRESH enabled to improve the students’ writing achievement.Keywords: writing, descriptive text, FRESH techniqu
The implementation of Mind-mapping technique to improve student’s descriptive text writing ability
The objectives of this research were to find out if there was any significant difference on students' writing ability in a descriptive text before and after the implementation of mind-mapping technique and to investigate the students’ perception toward the use of mind-mapping technique in teaching writing ability. The population of this research was the first year students of SMA Surya Dharma 2 Bandarlampung. The sample of this research was X Science 1 which consisted of 33 students. The data were taken from the tests and they were analyzed by using paired sample t-test. The result of the research showed that there was a significant difference on students’ writing ability since t-value>t-table (20.967 > 2.0345). The mean score of post-test (68.98) and the pre-test score (62.73). It gained 6.25. In addition, the second result showed that the mean of the questionnaire was 78.78. It means the students’ perception toward the implementation of the strategy was positive. Most of the students agreed that the strategy was applied in teaching reading process. Briefly, it could be concluded that mind-mapping technique enabled to improve the students’ achievements in writing ability and showed positive impact to students toward the use of the technique in teaching process.Keywords: Writing ability, Descriptive text, Mind-mapping techniquedoi: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v10.i2.20211
Improving students' vocabulary mastery through Short story reading technique at the second grade students in SMAN 2 Tumijajar
The aims of this study were to find out whether 1) short story reading technique is able to improve students’ vocabulary or not, 2) students’ perception towards the implementation of short story reading technique which has been stimulated during the treatments.The subject was second grade of SMAN 2 Tumijajar. Moreover, the designs used were quantitative analysis and descriptive qualitative which used vocabulary test and questionnaire as the instruments of the research. The data analysed by using Paired- Samples Test in order to know the students’ difference in vocabulary mastery. In addition, 7C’s Students’ Perception Questionnaire was used in order to analyse the students’ perception towards short story reading technique which has been stimulated during the treatments.The result of the research showed that the implementation of short story reading technique is able to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. It is determined after analysing the data using Paired-T Test, the significant (0.00) is lower than alpha level (0.05). It shows that there is significant difference of students’ vocabulary mastery results in both pre-test and post-test. In addition, the result of questionnaire shows that short story reading technique is an effective technique to improve students’ perception. The result of all aspects of 7C’s students’ perception is good, it indicates positive students’ perception of short story reading.Keywords: reading story, vocabulary mastery, short story, students’ perception
Teachers' perception on the use of Show and Tell technique in teaching English speaking
The objectives of this research were to find out the teachers’ perception on the use of Show and Tell technique and to find out what are the obstacles when applying this technique. The subjects were 3 English teachers of SMPN 4 Natar. This research conducted by the researcher using qualitative descriptive method and interview questions were used to collect the data. The result showed that there was no significant difference of teachers’ perception toward this technique, the teachers perceived the Show and Tell technique positively. It happened because the technique was related to the students’ daily life and relevant to the curriculum standard the school applied. It can be concluded, Show and Tell technique is one of good techniques in Teaching English Speaking. The more the techniques or material related to students’ daily life, the more the students would be more easy to understand the material and they would get better scores. Thus, it is suggested the English teachers to use Show and Tell technique to make the teaching English speaking be more interesting and make the students be more active in the learning process. The implementation of p-q-r-s-t strategy to improve students' reading comprehension ability at SMAN 3 Bandarlampung
The objectives of this research were to investigate if there was an improvement on students’ reading comprehension and to find out students’ attitude toward the implementation of PQRST strategy for teaching reading comprehension. The samples of this research were 30 students of the first year students of SMAN 3 Bandar Lampung. The data were obtained through a pre-test and post-test in which the results were analyzed by using Paired Sample T-Test. The results of the research showed that there was a significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension since the t-value was 7.844 with the significance level of 0.00 and the students’ attitude toward the implementation of the strategy was positive. It can be concluded that PQRST strategy enables students to improve their reading comprehension and they have a positive attitude toward the use of the strategy for teaching reading. The use of Picture series on Instagram to improve students’ writing in EFL Writing class
Instagram has been used as the medium to upload photos, e.g. picture series. The current research was intended to find out I) whether picture series on Instagram could facilitate students to improve their writing achievement, II) students' perceptions of the use of picture series. The design of the research was mixed quantitative and qualitative approaches. The subjects of the research were 31 students of the first grade of SMA Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung. The data were collected through the writing tests (pre and post-tests) and questionnaires. The results showed that (i) there was a statistically significant improvement of the students’ writing achievement after the students were taught using picture series on Instagram with the significant 0.05. (ii) There were positive perceptions of the use of picture series on Instagram. This suggests that picture series on Instagram facilitates students to improve students’ writing achievement. The effectiveness of using Duolingo to improve students’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of SMPN 8 Bandar Lampung
The objectives of this research are to find out whether there is any significant improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery after being taught through Duolingo and to investigate the students’ perception of it. The subject of the research was thirty students of SMP N 8 Bandar Lampung who were in seventh grade when the research was conducted. The research was conducted by using one group pretest and posttest design. The data were analyzed by using Repeated Measure T-Test in which the significance was determined by p<0.05 and hypothesis testing was computed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The students’ perception toward the implementation of Duolingo was also investigated through a close-ended questionnaire. The result of the research showed that the mean score improves from the pretest was 62,1333 and the posttest was 76,3333 in which the gain was 14,2000. The result of the t-value was 12.836 and the sig.2-tailed 0.000. It means that the hypothesis was accepted, there is a significant improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery after being taught through Duolingo. Furthermore, it was found out that students have a positive perception of the treatment. The Use of Video to Improve Students' Writing of Procedure Text at the Second Grade of SMPN 8 Bandarlampung
This research aimed to find out whether or not there was significant improvement of students’ procedure text writing after the implementation of video as media and to investigate students’ perception with regard to interest, challenge, choice and enjoyment of the implementation of video as media in language learning. This research was conducted through quantitative and qualitative approach. A total of 29 eighth graders of SMPN 8 Bandarlampung took part in the current study. The instruments used in this research were writing test (pre- and post-test) and questionnaire. The resultshowed that students’ average score in the pre-test was 53.93 and in the post-test was 59.13, the gain score was 5.20. The result of the Paired Sample t-test confirmed the hypothesis that there was significant improvement in students’ procedure text writing, p<0.05, p = .000. The comparative study in reading comprehension achievement on students with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles
Reading has an influential role in language achievement where each student has their own preferred way to guide them which is called learning styles. The researcher interested in conducting the comparative study because students’ learning styles i.e., visual, auditory, and kinesthetic have dissimilar attainment in reading comprehension. The objectives of this research were to determine i) the significant difference in students’ reading comprehension achievement among students with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles and ii) the highest and lowest reading aspect of each VAK student’s achievement. The approach of this research was quantitative. The sample of this research was 30 students in X IPA 6 of SMAN 3 Bandar Lampung chosen by purposive sampling method. Questionnaires and reading test were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed by using One Way Anova and MANOVA in SPSS 17.0 for Windows. The result showed there was a significant difference in students’ reading comprehension achievement based on their learning style since the f-value was 1.287 with the alpha 0.07. In addition, the result of the VAK students’ achievement showed the highest aspect of visual students was determining vocabulary, while the highest aspect of auditory and kinesthetic students was determining reference. The lowest aspect of visual and auditory students was finding main idea while the lowest aspect of kinesthetic students was making inference.
