Improving Students Reading Comprehension in Narrative Text through Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR)
Get PDFTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan pada kemampuan siswa dalam pemahaman membaca teks naratif setelah belajar menggunakan strategi CSR. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Sasaran penelitian ini adalah 34 siswa tingkat kedua di SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandar Lampung. Tes membaca digunakan sebagai alat untuk pengambilan data. Analisis data menggunakan paired sample t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan pada kemampuan siswa dalam membaca teks naratif dengan tingkat signifikansi 0.00<0.05. Dapat disarankan bahwa pengajaran membaca menggunakan strategi CSR dapat membantu siswa untuk menemukan infromasi pada teks dengan mudah.The aim of this research was to find out whether there was a statistically significant difference of students reading comprehension ability of narrative texts after the students were taught through CSR strategy. This research was a quantitative research. The subjects of the research were 34 students at the second grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandar Lampung. The reading comprehension test was used as the research instrument. The data were analyzed using paired sample t-test. The Implementation of Think Pair Share Technique in Teaching Reading Comprehension
Get PDFPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti: i) peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa melalui penerapan teknik TPS dan ii) hambatan yang dihadapi siswa selama penerapan teknik TPS. Data diperoleh dari pre-test, post-test dan lembar pengamatan. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan signifikan secara statistik pada pencapaian pemahaman membaca siswa dengan tingkat signifikan (0.00<0.05). Hasil dari lembar pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa rendahnya penguasaan kosakata dan kesulitan menginterpretasi ide dalam text adalah hambatan utama yang dihadapi siswa selama penerapan TPS. Bagaimanapun, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa teknik TPS dapat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa.The objectives of this study were to investigate: i) the students improvement on reading comprehension achievement after they were taught through TPS technique and ii) the students constraints during the implementation of TPS technique. The data were obtained from the pre-test, the post-test, and the observation sheet. The result showed that there was a statistically significant improvement of students reading comprehension as the significant level (0.00<0.05). Furthermore, the results of the observation sheet showed that low vocabulary mastery and difficulty in interpreting the idea of the text became the major constraints encountered by the students during the implementation of TPS. Improving Students' Ability in Recount Text Writing through Jumbled Sentences at the First Grade of SMA Kartikatama Metro
Get PDFPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti apakah ada peningkatan pada kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks recount setelah belajar melalui jumbled sentences. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian sebanyak 25 siswa kelas satu di SMA Kartikatama Metro. Tes menulis digunakan sebagai alat untuk pengambilan data. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan t-test dengan tingkat signifikan level p<0.05 menggunakan SPSS versi 17.0. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan secara statistik pada pencapaian kosakata siswa. Dapat disarankan bahwa pengajaran menulis menggunakan jumbled sentences dapat membuat siswa terlibat kreatif dalam pembelajaran dan dapat membantu mengembangkan ide dengan mudah.The aim of this study was to find out whether there was a statistically significant increase of students writing ability in recount text writing after they were taught through jumbled sentences. This research was a quantitative research. The subjects of this research were 25 students at the first grade of SMA Kartikatama Metro. The writing test was administrated as the instrument of the research. The data were analyzed by using t-test as the significant level of p<0.05 through SPSS version 17.0. The result showed that there was a statistically significant increase of students writing ability. The Use of Role Play to Improve the Students' Speaking Achievement of the Second Grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Bandar Lampung
Get PDFTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana keterlibatan dari keaktifan siswa pada kemampuan berbicara melalui teknik role play dan apakah ada efek yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa setelah diajarkan menggunakan teknik role play. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif dan dilaksanakan di kelas X1 SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Bandar Lampung yang berjumlah 30 siswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan observasi dan tes berbicara. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan one group pretest and posttest design dengan menggunakan SPSS versi 16.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa mayoritas siswa aktif dalam belajar berbicara dengan menggunakan tenik role play dan adanya peningkatan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara setelah diajarkan menggunakan teknik role play. Terdapat sebuah statistik mengenai efek dari teknik role play yang signifikan terhadap pencapaian berbicara siswa dengan level 9.4. Hal tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa role play adalah cara efektif untuk meningkatkan berbicara siswa.The aims of this research were to investigate (i) the students active involvement in speaking through role play technique and (ii) whether there was a statistically significant effect of the students speaking achievement after they were taught using the role play technique. It was a qualitative and quantitative research. The subject were 30 students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Bandarlampung. The datas of this research were collected through observation and speaking tests. The datas were analyzed by using one group pretest posttest design through SPSS version 16.0. The result of the observation showed that the majority of the students were actively involved in the teaching learning through role play technique. There was also a significant effect of role play on the students speaking achievement with significant level 9.4. Building Students Self Confidence in Speaking through Group Discussion
Get PDFPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti apakah i) kelompok diskusi dapat meningkatkan kepercayaan diri siswa dalam berbicara dan ii) apakah ada peningkatan pada kemampuan berbicara siswa setelah belajar dalam kelompok diskusi. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah analisa kwantitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah 15 siswa kelas dua di sekolah menengah atas. Selain itu, tes berbicara dan kuesioner di gunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Pembelajaran menggunakan kelompok diskusi disarankan bagi para guru karena kelompok diskusi memfasilitasi siswa dengan lingkungan berkomunikasi yang menyediakan wadah bagi siswa untuk mengembangkan pemikiran mereka.The aim of this study was to explore whether i) group discussion improved students self-confidence and ii) there was an improvement of students speaking ability after the implementation of group discussion. The design was quantitative analysis. The subjects of this research were 15 students of the second grade of SMAN 8 Bandar Lampung. Speaking tests and questionnaires were administered to collect the data. The result showed that group discussion significantly improved the students self-confidence and the speaking ability. This suggests that group discussion facilitates students to improve their self-confidence and speaking ability.Keywords: group discussion, speaking ability, self-confidence
Analysis of Learning Strategies in The Speaking Class at The Second Grade Students of Senior High School
Get PDFTujuan penelitian ini mengetahui strategi belajar yang digunakan oleh siswa, kemampuan berbicara siswa dan menemukan korelasi antara strategi belajar bahasa dengan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMAN 1 Binduriang Bengkulu menggunakan kualitatif dan kuantitatif. 20 siswa kelas dua dipilih sebagai sample. 50 quesionire dan test menggunakan storytelling untuk mengukur kemampuan berbicara siswa. Data dianalisa menggunakan product moment corelation. Ada 6 strategy belajar siswa yang berbeda meliputi; meta-cognitive (3.56), memory (2.95), affective (2.85), sosial (2.82), cognitive (2.77) dan compentation (3.11). Hasil nilai dari kemampuan berbicara siswa adalah (68.05), meliputi; vocabulary (72.5), comprehension (72.5), Pronunciation (66.5), fluency (66.5), dan grammar (62.5). Vocabulary dan comprehension adalah paling tinggi, terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara penggunaan strategi belajar siswa dengan kemampuan berbicara dimana nilai r adalah 0.562.The objectives of this research are to find out the strategies of language learning that are used by the students, to find out the students speaking ability, and to find out the correlation between students language learning strategies with students speaking ability. This research was conducted in SMAN 1 Binduriang Bengkulu by using qualitative and quantitative method. There were 20 students from the second grade as a sample. 50 items of questionnaires to check the learning strategy and given test in speaking by using storytelling. The data were analyzed by product moment corelation. There are 6 kinds of different language learning strategies, including; meta-cognitive (3.56), memory (2.95), affective (2.85), social (2.82), cognitive (2.77) and compensation (3.11). The average score of students speaking ability is (68.05), such us; vocabulary (72.5), comprehension (72.5), Pronunciation (66.5), fluency (66.5), and grammar (62.5). The average score of vocabulary and comprehension were the highest one, there was a significant correlation between language learning strategies with speaking ability where value was 0.562.Keywords: learning strategy, speaking ability, students speaking ability
TEACHING VOCABULARY THROUGH MOVIES TO IMPROVE STUDENTS VOCABULARY MASTERY
Get PDFPenelitian ini bertujuan: i) untuk mengetahui peningkatan penguasaan kosakata siswa setelah diajarkan melalui movies dan ii) untuk mengetahui kesulitan siswa dalam penggunaan movies. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain one group pretest dan posttest. Tes kosa kata dan interview digunakan untuk pengambilan data. Data ini di analisis menggunalkan repeated measured T-test. Subyek penelitian ini 24 siswa dari kelas satu pada SMPN 26 Bandar Lampung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya peningkatan antara pretest dan posttest. Dengan level signifikan adalah p<0.05 (p=0.000). Penemuan kedua mengungkapkan bahwa siswa merasa sulit untuk memahami kata-kata atau frasa yang sulit, pengucapan penutur aslinya dan tingkat kecepatan penutur aslinya. Meskipun siswa menemukan kesulitan, siswa mampu meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata. Dari hasil yang didapat, disimpulkan bahwa movies direkomendasikan untuk digunakan sebagai alternatif media dalam mengajar kosakata.The aims of the research were: i) to find out the improvement of students vocabulary mastery after being taught through movies, and ii) to find out the students difficulties to the implementation of movies. The research used one group pretest and posttest design. The vocabulary test and interview were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed by using repeated measured T-test. The subjects of this study were 24 students from the first grade students of SMPN 26 Bandar Lampung. The result showed that there was a statistically significant improvement of the students mean score between the pretest and the posttest with significant level p<0.05 (p=0.000). The second finding revealed that the students found it hard to understand the difficult words or phrases, the native speakers pronunciation, and the native speakers speed rate. Even though the students find difficulties, the students are able to improve their vocabulary mastery. This suggests that movies can be used as alternative media in teaching vocabulary.Key words: improve, movies, vocabulary master
The Implementation of Scientific Approach on Speaking Skill at Second Grade Students based on Learning Style in SMAN 1 Pringsewu
Get PDFPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui i) bagaimana implementasi pendekatan saintifik dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa dan ii) apakah gaya belajar siswa mempengaruhi kemampuan siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain pre-experimental. Sasaran penelitian sebanyak 28 siswa kelas XI di SMAN 1 Pringsewu. Kuesioner dan tes berbicara digunakan sebagai alat untuk pengambilan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya peningkatan kemampuan berbicara siswa yang signifikan dengan tingkat signifikansi 0.05 setelah pengimplementasian pendekatan saintifik. Gaya belajar siswa juga terbukti berpengaruh terhadap nilai kemampuan berbicara siswa. Hal ini menandakan bahwa dengan pengaplikasian prosedur yang tepat, pendekatan saintifik dapat diimplementasikan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris siswa. Hasil juga membuktikan bahwa faktor internal seperti gaya belajar juga berpengaruh akan suksesnya siswa dalam belajar berbahasa.The objectives of this study were to find out i) the effect of implementation of scientific approach on students speaking achievement and ii) whether students learning style preferences affect students speaking capability. The research used pre-experimental design. The subjects were 28 second year science class students of SMAN 1 Pringsewu. Questionnaires were employed to collect the data of the students learning style preferences and speaking tests were conducted to identify students speaking achievement. The results showed that there was a significant improvement of students speaking achievement after the implementation of scientific approach with significant level 0.05. Students learning style preferences also affected speaking ability. The results suggest that scientific approach facilitates the students to improve their English proficiency. THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MIND MAPPING TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE STUDENTS ABILITY IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT SECOND GRADE OF SMPN 1 TRIMURJO

Penelitian ini termasuk kedalam penelitian kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 31 siswa VIII A SMPN 1 Trimurjo. Tes menulis dan questioner digunakan sebagai alat untuk pengambilan data. Data dianalisis menggunakan Paired Sample t-test. Hasil menunjukan bahwa ada peningkatan kemampuan menulis siswa yang signifikan dengan tingkat signifikansi p=0.00<0.05. Pemahaman tatabahasa (grammar) adalah hambatan utama yang dihadapi siswa selama belajar menggunakan mind mapping. Hasil dari penelitian ini menganjurkan bahwa menulis menggunakan teknik mind mapping dapat membantu siswa untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam menulis.Abstrack. The objectives of this research were to find out i) whether mind mapping significantly improved the aspects of writing and ii) the constraints in learning writing descriptive texts using mind mapping. This research was quantitative research. The subjects were 31 students of VIII A and of SMPN 1 Trimurjo. The writing test and questionnaire were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed by using Paired Sample t-test. The results showed that there was statistically significant improvement of the students writing p=0.00<0.05. Understanding grammar was the major constraint in learning descriptive texts. IMPROVING STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION ABILITY THROUGH P-Q-R-S-T STRATEGY AT SMKI ASSYARONIYYAH

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Sasaran penelitian ini adalah 23 siswa tingkat kedua SMKI Assyaroniyyah Mataram Baru, Lampung Timur. Tes membaca, observasi dan wawancara digunakan sebagai alat untuk pengambilan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan pada kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa setelah implementasi strategi PQRST. Dapat disarankan bahwa pengajaran membaca menggunakan strategi PQRST dapat membantu siswa untuk menemukan infromasi pada teks dengan mudah.The aims of this study was to find out whether there was an improvement of students reading comprehension ability after the students were taught through PQRST strategy.
