    The use of Flipped classroom to improve students’ achievement in writing a Descriptive text

    This research aims to investigate whether the flipped classroom method is capable of increasing students’ writing achievement in writing descriptive text. To achieve the objective of the research, the researcher conducted the research using quantitative approach, with one group of pre-test and post test design. The population of the research is the first grade of SMA Negeri 9 Bandar Lampung, and the sample is the class of X4 which is decided through cluster random sampling. After following through the process of research at the school, the researcher proceeded to analysis the data using paired sample T-test. Through the result of the T-test, it was found that the flipped classroom has increased the students’ score significantly with the p-value <0.05. Hence, the implementation of flipped classroom is useful in increasing students’ writing achievement in writing descriptive text.Keywords: flipped classroom, students’ writing achievement, students’ writing, writing test, content, mechanics

    Psychological factors affecting English speaking skills

    Speaking is one of hard skill that should be mastered by students in English. But, in reality not all students can master it. There are several factors that influence students in the process of learning speaking, one of which is psychological factors. This study aims to find psychological factors that affect students' English speaking skills. The method used in this study is through a literature study in which the researcher collects the data in the form of books, articles, journals to develop this study. The results of this study indicate psychological factors can affect students' speaking in English, including anxiety, fear of mistakes, lack of confidence, lack of motivation, and shyness. In conclusion, the teacher has an important role in helping students; such as the teacher should be aware of students’ Psychological speaking problems to develop their speaking skills and motivating them to build their confidence and making the comfortable speaking class to improve their speaking skill

    The correlation between students’ habit in watching English movies and their speaking ability

    The objectives of the study were to find out the i) correlation between students’ habit in watching English movies and speaking ability and to find out ii) what aspect of speaking has the highest correlation with students’ habit in watching English movies.This research was quantitative. The population of the research was the second-year students of SMAN 3 Prabumulih. XI Science 1 was chosen as the sample of the research. A set of habit questionnaires from Verplanken was used to measure students’ habit in watching English movies and a speaking test was used to measure students’ speaking ability. Pearson correlation was applied in this research. The result indicated that there was a correlation between students’ habit in watching English movies and their speaking ability since the significant value was 0.890 resided between 0.800 - 0.1000, which means the strength was very high correlation. It was also found that pronunciation was the aspect of speaking that has the highest correlation with the students’ habit because, it was found that during the speaking test, the students showed various behaviors, such as pronouncing slang words and imitating the sentence from the movie that they have already watched. The student’s behaviors were influenced by the students’ habit in watching English movies itself. The more they have watched English movies the more it can influence their performance in speaking.Keywords:  correlation, habit, English movie, speaking, aspects of speaking

    The use of kids song to improve students’ pronunciation of dental sounds /ð / /θ/ and palato-alveolar sounds /tʃ/ /dʒ/

    This study aimed to find out whether there was statiscallysignificant difference of the dental sounds /θ/ /ð/ and palato-alveolar sounds /tʃ/ /dʒ/ between the pre and the post tests after the implementation of kids song and and to find out whether there was a statiscally significant difference on students’ ability in pronouncing voiceless and voiced sounds of dental sounds /θ/ /ð/ and palato-alveolar sounds /tʃ/ /dʒ/. This research was conducted at the first-grade students of MTs DarurrahmanPerintis in the academic year 2022/2023 in the first semester. Class VII A which consist of 20 students was the sample of this research. This research was conducted through quantitative approuch by using one group pre-test post-test design. Pronunciation test was used as the instrument of this research. The data was taken from pretest and posttest in the form of scores from pronunciation tests that had been recorded and analyzed by using Paired Sample T-test. The result presented that students’ mean score of pretest was 26.24 and the mean score of posttest was 73.12. Moreover, the improvement of students’ mean scores from pretest to posttest was 46.88 and the p-value of significant level was 0.000 which was lower than 0.05. It proved that H1 is accepted that there was a statiscallysignificant difference of the dental sounds /θ/ /ð/ and palato-alveolar sounds /tʃ/ /dʒ/ between the pre and the post tests after the implementation of kids song. Moreover, it also can be found that students’ ability in pronouncing voiceless and voiced sounds of dental sounds /θ/ /ð/ and palato-alveolar sounds /tʃ/ /dʒ/ at the significant level 0.000 (2.4375). Based on the results. It can be inferred that the use of kids song is effective in teaching pronunciation of dental sounds /θ/ /ð/ and palato-alveolar sounds /tʃ/ /dʒ/

    Improving students’ achievement of pronouncing friction consonants through Drilling technique at the first year student of MTs Al Hikmah Bandar Lampung

    The objective of this research were to find out whether there was significant effect in students’ friction consonants achievements after being taught by using drilling technique as media in teaching pronunciation and to investigate which friction consonants sounds do the students find it hard to pronounce. This research was conducted in junior high school students which consisted of 27 students chosen as the sample of this research. By using a quantitative research with pronunciation test and interview for data collection. The collected data for the quantitative were analyzed statistically through a Paired Sample T-test and descriptively through a descriptive analysis. The result indicate that there was significant effect in their friction consonants achievement after being taught by using drilling technique. It is also revealed that the difficulties faced by the students during the learning process

    The effect of the online learning model of Rumah Belajar Muhammadiyah (Rubelmu) on students’ vocabulary achievement at second grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandarlampung

    The research objectives were to find  out (i) whether online learning using Rubelmu has a significant difference on students’ vocabulary mastery at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandarlampung and (ii) the students’ perceptions of online learning using Rubelmu. This was quantitative research with one pretest-posttest design. The subjects use 30 samples taken from the second grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandarlampung. The one group gathered from the result of pretest-posttest to measure the significance difference were collected through the pretest and the post test. Questionnaires were used to find the students’ perceptions. The data collected were compared by using SPSS. The outcome showed that online learning using Rubelmu had a significant difference on students’ vocabulary mastery. There was an improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery based on the gain of mean score score that was indicatively increased from 59.5 to 80.5. Questionnaire was distributed to measure the students’ perception about Rubelmu.     The effectiveness of using dictogloss as a method to improve students’ listening achievement at MTs Ma’arif 04 Rumbia

    The aims of this research are to find out whether there is significant effect of dictogloss method on the students’ listening achievement and to investigate in what part of speech the students get better achievement after learning through dictogloss method. The sample of this research was the first grade that consisted of 23 students. The instrument of this research was listening test. The researcher used paired samples t-test to analyze the data, in which the significant was determined by pt-table (9.264 > 2.074) or sig p<0.05 (0.000<0.05). Furthermore, part of speech in listening test that improved the most after learning through dictogloss method was verb. As a result, it can be concluded that dictogloss method is effective to improve students’ listening achievement. Dictogloss method can help the students in understanding the text easier, especially in descriptive text.Keyword: Dictogloss method, Listening Comprehension, Descriptive Tex

    Teaching reading using ReadTheory website as an online platform

    The objectives of this research were to know whether or not there is a significant improvement on reading achievement after teaching using ReadTheory and which  reading aspect is improved the most. The design of this study was one group pretest-post test design. The study employed reading test for pretest and post test. The result of study found that the two tailed significance value (p) is 0.000. ReadTheory is significant to improve reading achievement and supporting details are the aspect improved the most. This is proven as the result of post test mean reached 62,59 from 53,40. The improvement was shown in all aspects of reading, especially aspect of supporting details. The gain percentage of supporting details was 13.6%.     Improving students’ speaking achievement by using WhatsApp group application in SMP Negeri 4 Natar Lampung Selatan

    The aim of this study is to know whether there is any improvement of students' speaking achievement after using WhatsApp group application. This is pre-experimental research that involved 1 class in junior high school which included 26 students. The data collecting was gained through pre-test and post-test. Those data were analyzed quantitatively. The result showed that there was significant improvement of students' speaking achievement after using WhatsApp group application. That finding showed that statistically, the average scores of post-test significantly improved than the average scores in the pre-test. It is suggested to use WhatsApp group application to improve students' speaking achievement effectively.doi: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v10.i3.20210
