    Teaching writing through Instagram to improve students’ writing skill at the first grade of SMA Negeri 15 Bandar Lampung

    The objectives of the research are to identify the improvements to students’ writing skill and to find which aspect has the most significant improvement. This research used a quantitative method and Repeated Measures T-test used to analyze the data. The instrument is a writing test that consists of pre-test and post-test. The result shows that students’ overall mean was 68.07 In the pre-test, while the mean of the post-test was 77.64. It means that there was an increase in students’ scores by 9.57 points. Moreover, the most improved aspect was grammar. The mean of this aspect in the post-test (18.6) was higher than the mean in the pre-test (15.4) with the gain of 3.2. It can be said that Instagram can be applied in teaching writing to improve writing skill.doi: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v11.i1.20228

    The correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension

    The goal of this research is to find the objective condition from the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and students’ reading comprehension which was observed and analyzed from SMA N 1 Bandar Lampung. Moreover, the purpose of this study is also to get the information and the empirical data about the correlation of students’ vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension. The populations of the research are 178 students and 36 students were being the sample of the research. All of the objects are from the second semester of IPA 5 SMA N 1 Bandar Lampung. This research was using correlation through the application of quantitative methods by collecting the data from the test. According to the result of the analysis and statistical calculation, it is found that rxy is 0.678 and rt is 0.329 and 0,339 with the degree of freedom ( df=N-nr) is 34. By comparing the values of rxy and rt, it means that rxy is bigger than rt and the statistic hypothesis states: If ro>rt significance: there is correlation and Ha accepted. If ro<rt non-signification: there is no correlation and Ha is rejected. The result of the hypothesis is rxy bigger than rt which means the alternative hypothesis is accepted. Based on this finding from this study, it can conclude that having more vocabulary or vocabulary mastery significantly affects the comprehension of the students reading activity. Moreover by having many vocabularies the students’ can easily get the information and fun story written in English which finally in can enrich their knowledge by reading a lot of books. doi: 10.23960/UJET.v11i2.20220

    The implementation of animated-narrative-video to improve students’ vocabulary mastery in an orphanage

    Mastering adequate vocabulary is necessary for English as a Foreign Language learners to perform their skills in English better. In fact, some EFL learners still have a relatively low vocabulary mastery and difficulty in acquiring English vocabulary. This study was conducted to find out whether there is a significant difference in students’ vocabulary mastery before and after being taught through animated narrative videos. The subject of this study was seventeen students at Al-Husna Orphanage, Bandar Lampung. This study applied a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The instrument used in collecting the data was vocabulary test, fifty multiple-choice items. The data were gathered through a quantitative approach, then analyzed using Repeated Measure T-Test. The result shows that there is a significant difference in students’ vocabulary mastery after being taught through animated narrative videos. It could be seen from the calculation that the t-value is 9.263, higher than the t-table in 2.120 and the significant value is lower than alpha (p=0.000<0.05).     Using silent demonstration to increase students’ writing in procedure text at the second grade students of SMK-SMTI Bandar Lampung

    This research was aimed to find out whether there is a significant improvement of students’ writing ability before and after being taught through Silent Demonstration. By applying quantitative approach, the researcher intended to discuss the difference of students’ procedure text writing. The researcher chose XI APL 2 at SMK-SMTI  Bandar Lampung students as a sample, which the number of students reached 37 people using purposive sampling.  This study employed one-group pre-test and post-test design by comparing the mean score of the tests. The result showed that the mean of post-test, which is 79.49 is higher than the mean of pre-test at 64.03. In addition, the significance of the test is 0.000 lower than 0.05. It can be also supported by the evidence that verifies the statement was the t-value which showed higher number than t-table by having the result 19.407 > 2.0281

    The effect of using pronunciation applications on students' pronunciation abilities

    ABSTRACTAs part of speaking skill, pronunciation has an important factor in learning English as a foreign language, especially in communication. In English communication, if our pronunciation is wrong or inappropriate the result will be miscommunication, even to the point of not conveying the purpose of communication in a conversation because the meaning of a word or sentence is not conveyed properly. So far, the steps for learning and modeling pronunciation in English are done directly or face-to-face. Lecturers and students also need appropriate learning media and support online learning to carry out this Pronunciation course. Regarding applications, the benefits of many applications that are suitable for learning English are; students can watch videos related to the topic, are able to save examples of learning materials, and are able to save the exercises they have done as learning evaluation material for teachers and students later. Applications which are appropriate are the methods which are not only support online learning but can also improve students' pronunciation skills. This study aims to determine whether or not using the pronunciation application have an significant effect on students' pronunciation abilities. This study is used one group pretest-posttest. This design analyzes the results of students' pronunciation abilities at the beginning and at the end of the lesson. The subjects of this study were undergraduate students of the English Education Study Program, FKIP University of Lampung. One class consists of 31 students who take pronunciation courses. Based on the data analysis, the researcher concludes that there is no significant difference of students pronunciation ability before and after taught using pronunciation applications.     The correlation between students’ activity in playing English video games and student’s vocabulary mastery at SMAN 1 Bandar Lampung

    The primary goals of this reasearch are to find out the correlation between students’ activity in playing English video games and students’ vocabulary mastery. This research was conducted in SMAN 1 Bandar Lampung. The subject were 36 students of  XI MIPA 2 as the subject of the research. Questionnaires and vocabulary test were used to collect the data. This research was using correlation through the application of quantitative methods by collecting the data from the test. The result of questionnaires showed that there were 20 students who had high level of playing English video games, 13 students had medium and 3 students had low. Meanwhile, the result of the vocabulary test showed that there were 2 students got outstanding level of vocabulary mastery. 18 students got good, 10 students got satisfactory, and 6 students got very weak. According to the result of the analysis and statistical calculation it is found that rxy is 0.604, which means there is significant correlation between students’ activity in playing English video games and students’ vocabulary mastery.doi: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v11.i1.20228

    Aspects of writing and its correlation with students’ reading habit of the eleventh grade in SMAN 1 Natar

    This research was intended to investigate what aspect of writing has the highest correlation with students’ reading habit. This research is quantitative using ex-post facto design. The study was conducted on 28 students of the eleventh grade in SMAN 1 Natar. Research instruments included reading habit questionnaire and writing test. This research used scoring rubric for writing test which covered five aspects of writing; content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanic. The data were in form of scores taken from questionnaire and writing test. Moreover, the score of each aspect of writing was analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis in SPSS 20.0 along with the score of reading habit to get the correlation between two variables. The result of analysis showed that the coefficient correlation between content aspect and reading habit was determined to be 0.514. Thus, it was implied that content aspect has the highest correlation with reading habit among the five aspects of writing.doi: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v10.i4.20210

    The use of crossword puzzle game to improve students’ vocabulary mastery

    The objectives of this research were to find out whether teaching by using crossword puzzle could give improvement toward students’ vocabulary mastery and to find out the students responses after teaching vocabulary by using crossword puzzle. It was conducted at the first grade of SMPN 3 Natar, in academic year 2021/2022. The 7B Class which consists of 30 students were chosen as sample of this research. The study was quantitative approach with the design of one group pre-test and post-test design. The instruments used in this research were vocabulary test that consisted pre-test and post-test and questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 22.0. The result of this research showed that crossword puzzle could improve students’ vocabulary mastery. It could be seen from the result of t-value (11.199) was higher than t-table (2.045) with the value of significant level 0.00 < 0.05 which indicates that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. Moreover, the mean score of pre-test was (75.51) and the mean score of post-test was (84.43) it means that the students improved about (8.91) with the N-gain was (0.38). In addition, the result of students’ response showed that students gave positive response after the implementation of crossword puzzle game in teaching English. It could be seen from the result of the total score of the questionnaire of which the students mostly choose strongly agree and agree statements

    The use of English songs to improve students pronunciation at Mardhotillah orphanage, Bandar Lampung

    The study aimed to describe the improvement of the students’ pronunciation after implementing English songs in the teaching-learning process. The subject of this study was the senior High School students of Mardhotillah Orphanage, Bandar Lampung, which consisted of 10 students. This research was quantitative. The design used was one group pre-test and post-test. The instruments were pronunciation tests and recording. The data collection instrument was a test divided into pre-test and post-test, which the audio recorder had recorded, and they were analyzed using the Paired Sample T-test. The results showed that the students’ mean score on the pre-test was 48.5, and the mean score on the post-test was 72.5. Besides, the improvement of students’ mean scores from pre-test to post-test was24. It could be seen from the computation that the significant value of the test was lower than alpha (0.00<0.05) while the T-value (15.095) was higher than T-table (2.2622). Therefore, the hypothesis is accepted that there is a significant difference in students’ pronunciation ability after implementing English songs. Based on the results, it can be concluded that using English songs effectively teaches pronunciation. Keywords: English songs, teaching pronunciation, improvement

    The Use Of Jigsaw Strategy To Improve Students' Reading Comprehension Achievement At SMKN 1 CANDIPURO

    The objectives of this research are to find out the improvement of the students' reading ability before and after the implementation of jigsaw strategy and also to identify student perception about the use of jigsaw strategy at SMK N 1 Candipuro. This research was a quantitative research and the method was one group pretest and post-test design. The reading test was administrated as the instrument in this research. In pre-test, students mean score was 53. 86 while in post-test it increases to 65.46; the gain obtained in pre-test to post-test is 11.59. The analysis of SPSS 20 shows that there is improvement of students' reading ability after the implementation of jigsaw strategy; Based on seeing the analysis of students' work in pre-test and post-test on each aspect of reading.
