The Use of Collaborative Technique in Improving Students’ Descriptive Writing Ability at The First Grade of SMAN 1 Purbolinggo
The objectives of this research are to find out whether there is significant improvement on students’ writing skill of descriptive text after the implementation of collaborative technique and also to find out the aspects of writing that improved the most after using the collaborative technique. The population of this research is first grade student of SMAN 1 Purbolinggo in the academic year 2018/2019. The sample of this research is class X Mia 2 that consisted of 36 students. The data were in forms of writing scores taken from pretest and posttest and analyzed by using Repeated Measure T-test in which the significance was determined by p<0.05. The result of this research shows that statistical computations indicated significant value of posttest-pretest was lower than 0.05. Therefore, the hypothesis of the research was accepted. The mean score of pretest is 72.09 and the mean score of posttest is 77.23. It means that the students’ score improved about 5.14. Briefly, it can be concluded that collaborative technique can facilitate the students in writing descriptive text.
Students’ Perception on the Jigsaw Technique Implementation in Learning Speaking at the First-Grade of SMA N 7 Bandar Lampung
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki persepsi siswa pada implementasi teknik jigsaw dalam pembelajaran berbicara Bahasa Inggris. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 18 siswa kelas X di SMAN 7 Bandarlampung. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Data digunakan dengan menggunakan rekaman video dan wawancara. Pengkodeaan (coding) digunakan dalam menganalisis data. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa sebagian besar siswa memiliki persepsi positif terhadap penggunaan teknik jigsaw dalam hal tingkat tingkat kesulitan, tingkat stress, kepercayaan diri, minat, dan motivasi. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa teknik jigsaw memudahkan siswa dalam menerima materi lebih efektif dan efisien karena kegiatan belajar mengajar yang menyenangkan di jigsaw memberikan suasana belajar yang positif. The objective of this research was to investigate the students’ perception of the jigsaw technique in learning speaking English. The subjects of the research were 18 tenth-grade students at SMAN 7 Bandar Lampung. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected through video recording and interviews. Coding was used in analyzing the data. The result showed that majority of students had positive perceptions of the jigsaw technique use in terms of levels of difficulty, degree of stress, confidence, interest, and motivation. This suggests that jigsaw technique facilitates the students in receiving the material more effectively and efficiently because enjoyable teaching and learning activities in jigsaw give a positive learning atmosphere
TEACHING SPEAKING THROUGH TASK-BASED LANGUAGE TEACHING AT THE FIRST GRADE STUDENTS OF SMAN 1 GEDONG TATAAN
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada efek dari penerapan teknik pembelajaran bahasa berbasis Task (Task-Based Language Teaching) terhadap pencapaian berbicara siswa pada siswa tingkat pertama di SMAN 1 Gedong Tataan dan bagaimana kinerja siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Subjek nya adalah 30 siswa kelas X IPA 5 di SMAN 1 Gedong Tataan. Tes berbicara dalam bentuk menceritakan kejadian masa lampau digunakan untuk mengumpulan data. Data dianalisis menggunakan Pired Sample T-test. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa ada efek secara statistik terhadap pencapaian berbicara siswa setelah diajarkan Task-Based Language Teaching dengan level signifikansi 0.00. Dengan demikian, TBLT adalah salah satu teknik yang dapat dijadikan sebagai alternatif teknik pembelajaran bahasa untuk meningkatakan pencapaian berbicara siswa. The aim of this study was to find out whether there was a statistically significant effect of Task-based language teaching (TBLT) on students’ speaking achievement in terms of complexity, accuracy, and fluency aspect of the first grade students at SMAN 1 Gedong Tataan The research used quantitative approach. The subjects were 30 students in class X IPA 5 of SMAN 1 Gedong Tataan. The speaking tests in the form of telling the past story were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed using paired sample T-test. The result showed that there was a statistically significant effect of the implementation of TBLT on the students’ speaking achievement with the significant level 0.00. This suggests that TBLT facilitates the students to improve their speaking achievement. Keywords: Task-based language teaching technique, speaking, achievement.
Cognitive Strategy Training in Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension
Penelitian ini menyelidiki apakah i) pelatihan strategi kognitif secara signifikan meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dan ii) proses pelatihan strategi kognitif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuasi eksperimental dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian berasal dari 60 siswa sebagai kelas kontrol dan eksperimen. Data dikumpulkan melalui test awal, test akhir, dan perlakuan (training). Data dari tes dianalisis menggunakan SPSS. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan strategi kognitif meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa dengan taraf signifikansi 0,05. Selanjutnya, proses pelatihan strategi kognitif berjalan dengan lancar dalam arti siswa dapat menerapkan strategi kognitif selama proses pelatihan.. Ini menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan strategi kognitif mempermudah siswa untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca mereka.This research investigated whether i) cognitive strategy training significantly improved students’ reading comprehension and ii) the process of cognitive strategy training in improving students’ reading comprehension. The research used quasi-experimental design using quantitative approach. The subjects of the research were 60 students for both control and experimental classes. The data were collected through the pre test, post test, and treatment. The data from the tests were analyzed using SPSS. The result showed that cognitive strategy training improved the students' reading comprehension with the significant level 0.05. Furthermore, the process of cognitive strategy training ran well in the sense that the students could apply cognitive strategies during the training process. THE CORRELATION OF STUDENTS’ MOTIVATION AND THEIR READING COMPREHENSION
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara motivasi siswa dan pemahaman membaca mereka. Desain penelitian ini menggunakan deskriptif kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 40 siswa kelas dua Madrasah Tsanawiah Negeri di Bandar Lampung. Kuisioner dan tes membaca diberikan sebagai instrumen dari motivasi dan membaca. Data dianalisis menggunakan Pearson Product Moment Correlation di SPSS 16.0. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan koefisien korelasi antara motivasi siswa dan pemahaman membaca mereka sebesar 0,637 pada tingkat signifikan 0.01. Koefisien korelasi lebih tinggi dari nilai kritis r tabel (0.637> 0.393). Oleh karena itu, hipotesis nol ditolak dan hipotesis penelitian diterima. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan antara motivasi siswa dan pemahaman membaca mereka.The aim of this study was to find out the correlation of students’ motivation and their reading comprehension. This research was quantitative research. The subjects of this research were 40 second grade students of Secondary Islamic School in Bandar Lampung. The questionnaire and reading tests were administrated as the instruments of motivation and reading. The data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation in SPSS 16.0. The result shows that the coefficient correlation between students’ motivation and their reading comprehension is 0.637 at the significant level of 0.01. The coefficient correlation is higher than the critical value of r table (0.637>0.393). Therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected and the research hypothesis is accepted. Based on the result, it can be concluded that there is correlation between students’ motivation and their reading comprehension.Keywords: correlation, motivation, reading comprehension.
the implementation of intensive reading technique to improve students' vocabulary achievement of the second grade sma al-azhar 3 bandar lampung
Penilitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada i) peningkatan yang signifikan secara statistik dari prestasi kosa kata siswa setelah diajar melalui teknik membaca intensif, ii) aspek content words yang meningkat paling tinggi setelah diajar melalui teknik membaca intensif. Penilitian ini dilakukan di SMA Al-Azhar 3 Bandar lampung pada tahun akademik 2018/2019. Sampel penilitian ini adalah 30 siswa di kelas XI IPA 1. Instrument yang digunakan untuk mendapatkan data dalam penilitian ini adalah tes vocabulary yang dinilai oleh peneliti. Pre-tes dan pos-tes dilakukan untuk mengumpulkan data sebelum dan sesudah implementasi teknik membaca intensif. Paired Sample T-Test digunakan untuk menganalisis data dan pengujian hipotesis dihitung menggunakan SPSS versi 17 pada tingkat signifikansi p <0.05. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan prestasi kosa kata siswa yang signifikan secara statistik. This study was aimed to find out whether there i) was a statistically significant improvement of students’ vocabulary achievement after the students were taught using the intensive reading technique, ii) and what aspects of content words improved the most after the students were taught through the intensive reading technique. This research was conducted in SMA Al-Azhar 3 Bandar Lampung in the academic year of 2018/2019. The subjects of this research were 30 students in class XI IPA 1. The instrument used to obtain the data in this research was the vocabulary test scored by the researcher. Vocabulary tests in the form of multiple choices pre-test and post-test were given to collect the data before and after the implementation of the intensive reading. Paired Sample T-Test was used to analyze the data, and the hypothesis testing was computed using SPSS version 17 at the significance level of p <0.05. Developing Extensive Reading Project based Learning to Improve Students’ Reading Comprehension in EFL Class
Penelitian ini bertujuan memperkirakan Extensive Reading Project Based Learning (PjBL) dapat memperbaiki kemampuan membaca dan untuk memeriksa apakah Extensive Reading PjBL dapat memperbaiki aktifitas mahasiswa. Populasi penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester dua program studi Bahasa Inggris STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung yang terdiri dari 30 mahasiswa. Test diberikan untuk mengukur kemampuan membaca, dan observation checklist dipakai mencatat progress aktifitas. Hasil menunjukkan Extensive Reading PjBL dapat memperbaiki kemampuan membaca dan aktifitas mahasiswa. Kesimpulannya, Extensive Reading PjBL memberikan kesempatan bekerja sama dan berinteraksi. Fakta tersebut berhasil memperbaiki kemampuan membaca mereka. Penulis merekomendasikan teknik ini untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca. Peneliti yang akan datang disarankan mendesain penelitian serupa dengan sesuatu yang baru dengan mempertimbangkan kondisi dan karakteristik mereka.The research is intended to estimate Extensive Reading Project Based Learning (PjBL) which can improve students' reading achievement and to examine whether Extensive Reading PjBL can improve students' activities. The population was second-semester students of English study program of STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung consisted of 30 students. A reading test was provided to measure the students’ reading achievement, and the observation checklist was used to record the progress of students’ activities. The result revealed that the Extensive Reading PjBL can improve the achievement of students’ reading comprehension. Moreover, the Extensive Reading PjBL can increase the students’ activities in doing the project. In conclusion, the stages of Extensive Reading PjBL provided a lot of chances for students to work together in their group and interacted directly among the members. Subconsciously, they enjoyed the process and positive atmosphere was created, then. They were helping each other among the members and they were really interactive. Those facts above made the students successfully in promoting their reading comprehension achievement through Extensive Reading PjBL technique. Therefore, the writer recommends the English teacher/ lecturer to apply this technique to promote the students’ reading comprehension. For further researchers, they are suggested to design a similar area of research with something new for students by considering the learners' condition and characteristics.Keywords: Extensive reading, project based learning, reading comprehension
Teaching Recount Text Writing Through Outlining Strategy to Improve Students’ Writing Achievement at The Second Grade of Junior High School
Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan teknik outlining dalam kegiatan menulis teks recount dapat meningkatkan pencapaian menulis siswa dan untuk mengetahui aspek apa dalam writing yang paling meningkat setelah pengajaran menggunakan teknik outlining. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah 25 siswa kelas 2 SMP N 1 Katibung, Lampung Selatan tahun ajaran 2018/2019. Selanjutnya, penelitian ini menggunakan metode one-group pretest and posttest dan dianalasis menggunakan formula Repeated Measure Test di software SPSS versi 16.0. Dari lima aspek dalam menulis, aspek yang paling meningkat adalah aspek konten, dengan nilai rata-rata 16.88 menjadi 24.68 yang mana meningkat sebesar 7.8. Terakhir, berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik outlining strategy meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam menulis teks recount dan rumusan masalah di penelitian ini telah terjawab. This research was done to find out whether the use of outlining strategy in writing recount text can improve students’ writing achievement and to investigate what aspect of writing improve the most after being taught by outlining strategy. The subjects of this research were 25 students of the second grade students of SMPN 1 Katibung in academic year 2018/2019. Furthermore, this research employed one group pretest and posttest design as the research method and were analysed using Repeated Measure Test in SPSS version 16.0. From each aspects of writing, the aspect that improve the most was content from 16.88 to 24.68 which means the score improved about 7.8. At last, according to the research that have held, it can be concluded that outlining strategy improve students’ writing achievement and the research questions of this research were being answer clearly
Teacher-Students and Students-Teacher Interaction in English Speaking Class
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis Teacher’s Talk dan Students’ Talk yang muncul di kelas berbahasa Inggris dan untuk mengetahui apakah ada pengaruh Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) dalam interaksi di kelas. Yang menjadi target penelitian adalah guru dan para siswa kelas tiga sekolah dasar di kelas berbahasa Inggris. Peneliti menggunakan Flanders Analysis Interaksi Categori (FIAC) sebagai pedoman untuk menganalisis data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa CLT memberikan efek positif bagi guru dan siswa dalam berinteraksi di kelas.The objectives of the research are to analyze the types of teacher’s talk and students’ talk occurring in the observed English speaking classes. In addition, this research aimed to find out whether there is an effect of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) setting in the interaction. The researcher took teacher and the young learners (third grade students of elementary school) in the English speaking classesas the target of the research. The researcher used Flanders Interaction Analysis Categories (FIAC) as the guidelines to analyze the data. The Implementation of Guiding Questions Technique in Teaching Writing Descriptive Text
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan menulis teks deskriptif siswa setelah diajar melalui teknik guiding questions dan untuk mengungkapkan respon siswa terhadap teknik yang digunakan. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas satu di salah satu SMA Negeri di Bandar Lampung pada tahun akademik 2018/2019. Sampel penelitian ini adalah X IIS 1 yang terdiri dari 28 siswa. Desain penelitian ini adalah one group pretest posttest. Data diambil dari tes dan kuesioner. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan pada kemampuan menulis siswa (p 2771). In addition, the students’ responses toward the implementation of guiding questions technique was positive as the polling in questionnaire indicate to the higher score. It can be concluded that guiding questions technique facilitates the students to improve their ability in descriptive text writing. This research is in line with previous studies on the same topic.
