    The article presents the idea of professional development activities from some views to enhance EFL teachers‟ quality and to meet the changing needs of the students which can be best implemented by EFL teachers. Some considerations about professional development activities to be reminder are 1) a match to existing teacher needs, 2) a match to existing school needs, 3) teacher involvment in the activities, 4) active participation opportunities, 5) long-term engangement and 6) high-quality instructors.The contribution will give EFL teachers views about continuous professional development reflect which upon pertinent common goals effectively. In sum up, the professional development activities for EFL teacherwill maintain a vital and critical role in the development of quality of teachers

    This article is intended to provide a foundation, reference and overview of the state of readiness of teachers in considering the application of the new curriculum (Revison of curricullum: KTSP become K-13), as well as provide information on teachers\u27 perceptions of the curriculum. This article is useful for teachers in portrait as well as provides information on the implementation of the curriculum (K-13 and KTSP). The method used in writing this article is to use qualitative and descriptive study of literature. Data obtained through the study of literature and observation using a structured interview to sample some of the teachers at the elementary school level, junior and senior high schools in Rokan Hulu used randomize sampling. After re-analyzed, the use of curriculum in Rokan Hulu found that more teachers agree with the new curriculum (K13) based on the existing system in K-13, but they were found to in RokanHulu itself is more efficient when using the last curricullum (KTSP) because the school facilities and good infrastructure does not support the implementation of the K-13 runs perfectly. Starting from the statement "if you want to K13, must complete infrastructure and support; develop what is there not to upset or partial". Of this paper is known that the curriculum in 2013 demand for teachers at all levels of schools in the district RokanHulu, but in practice advice and inadequate infrastructure that does not yet support the implementation of K13. Thus the authors recommend to education observers to gradually complete infrastructure for the implementation of K13 running properly

    THE NEEDS OF TEACHING ENGLISH PHONOLOGY IN HIGHER EDUCATION

    The research aimed to analyze students’ need to learn English phonology at fifth semester students of English Study Program of University of Pasir Pengaraian. Phonology is one of lessons that difficult to learn, because the students must concentrate and focus to learn it. To make students more understand in learning English phonology, the researcher need to know what students feeling before studying phonology and what their wish in learning it. Because of that reason, the researcher tried to analyze students’ need in English phonology. There were two types of instrument to gather the data; questionnaire and interview. The total students in this research are 42 students, which consist of 22 students in class A, and 20 students in class B. The researcher analyzed students answer based on interview. The finding was students need lecturer to be patient to teach them in English phonology, the students need the lecturer explain topic per topic in slowly until they understood, the students need more practice or exercise than theory or discussion

    The research is based on phenomenona occurs in a multilingual community that tend to use more than one language in communication. The phenomenon is called code transfer which does not only happens in informal situation but also in formal situation, like in speech of university leader, especially the head of Mahaputera Muhammad Yamin University Solok, West Sumatera. The purpose of this study was to analyze the reasons of using code switching by the leader of university in their speech during the graduation ceremony. This research used descriptive qualitative methods, where speech script was a source to be studied and analyzed. Based on the analysis, it was found that the tendency of using code switching was due to the educational background that was taken by the university leader, and also several other reasons related to language habits in multilingual community itself

    Pronunciation is considered as an important aspect of learning English, especially speaking which is most often used in communication. The aim of this study was to know the English students’ attitude in the learning pronunciation at English study program of University of Pasir Pengaraian. The research was conducted using descriptive quantitative method in which the data taken from pronunciation attitude inventory (PAI) were analysed and represented with number. The sample was 26 English students of first semester consisting of two classes (IA and IB). Based on the research finding, The students were not aware that English pronunciation was important to communicate effectively

    The use of cooperative learning in classroom activities is not a new thing. The current study investigates the strength and weaknesses of dynamic and static group formation. 33 students of English Study Program participated in the study. The study mainly focused on students’ perception regarding the group formation during classroom activities. By applying open- ended interview, students’ perception were recorded about possible benefit and disadvantages related to group formation. Overall, this study provides evidence both dynamic and static group formation can facilitate learning

    FANTASTIC ANIMATION MOVIES TO AID STUDENTS’READING COMPREHENSION OF NARRATIVE TEXT

    Reading is an essential skill for senior high school students. They must accustom to read and familiar with monologue texts. One of monologue texts is narrative text. Narrative text is telling about story and animation movie also tells about story. Theoretically, animation movie can help students to comprehend text. Therefore, experimental research was needed to investigate the effectiveness of animation movies in helping students to understand narrative text. Test (essay form) was chosen as instrument. Students’ scores were analyzed with paired t-test. The test result of thirty seven students of SMA Serirama YLPI showed that students’ scores had improvement. Students were easier to comprehend narrative text. It means that animation movies were effective and fantastic media for teaching reading narrative text
