    CONCEPTUALIZING TEACHERS AUTONOMY IN LANGUAGE CLASSROOMS

    The focus of this paper is on learner autonomy (henceforth, LA) in language classroom setting. LA is an engagement in a process of reflective practice in learning process. In what follows, I will first discuss concisely the concept of LA; next I will briefly discuss the work of possible differences among attributes affecting LA; finally, I will elaborate LA for language classroom, and will suggest how LA might be conceptualized according to LA principles. In the language classroom, LA is usually associated either with students or teachers. Moreover, LA as it stands for, generally considered as encouraging students to become more autonomous. Following Nasri, Dastjerdy, Rasekh and Amirian (2015), however, I suggest that gender, background, and experience as a valuable feature contribution to promote LA

    This research is a book review of questions in "Let\u27s Talk" text book published by Pakar Raya which is used as a textbook for all second years ofjunior high school in Siak Hulu. The questions in textbook is one aspect that influence in teaching learning process and monitoring students learning. Cognitive domain is an ability that is demanded from students to be mastered because it is absolutely a basic for mastering knowledge and intellectual skills. The aims of this research to find the level of questions in "Let\u27s Talk" text book based on Cognitive domain.     VERBAL SENTENCES IN UTETOTO VILLAGE, NANGARORO DISTRICT, NAGEKEO REGENCY, FLORES, NTT

    This study is aimed at revealing the systems of Utetoto Verbal Sentences. Specifically, this study is concerned on: (i) describing the basic sentence patterns of Utetoto Verbal Sentences, (ii) finding out the similarities and differences between English and Utetoto Verbal Sentences, and (iii) predicting some difficulties of Utetoto Students in learning English. This research was descriptive qualitative research. Robert’s (1958) model was used as research design in describing English. At the first, a need analysis was done in the method of describing the basic sentence patterns, mentioning the main patterns of verbal sentences and other patterns of verbal sentences with some native speakers of Utetoto as main informants who stay in Tanah Utetoto. Based on the result of analysis, it was found that there are many different systems between Utetoto Verbal Sentences and English ones. The basic sentence patterns of Utetoto Verbal Sentences are: Noun Phrase (NP), Verbal Phrase (VP), Adjective Phrase (AP), Numeral Phrase (NuP), Adverb Phraes (AdP), and Prepositional Phrase (PP). By contrasting both languages, it found the differences between the native language and the target language. Based on the differences between Utetoto and English system, it can be predicted some difficulties of Utetoto students in learning English

    The basic components of micro teaching skill is the basic skill to students who are going to be a teacher. Micro teaching is a course to practice teaching in faculty of teacher training and education.The research was done at third years students in 4 Department of FKIP in Universitas pasir pengaraian ( English Study Program, Math, Physic and Biology) .The methodology of this research is qualitative research. The researcher uses the teacher instrumentation assessments (IPKG 2). From the analysis, it can be concluded that the basic components of micro teaching skill at third years students of FKIP in Universitas Pasir Pengaraian is in good category or in 68,75%

    THE USE OF AUTHENTIC MATERIALS IN EFL/ESL CLASSROOM

    Teaching material is one of crucial part in English Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. Teaching language is related to the teaching culture which has great influence in human life. One better way to introduce students to the real world is through the use of authentic material. Since EFL students get more difficulties in acquire and explore the language, it can help them to experience real-world events in the classroom. Using authentic material enables teacher to modify teaching and learning strategies into a collaborative and interactive student centered learning environment instead of traditional teacher centered. Audio and visual presentation of the authentic material makes teaching and learning condition more interesting. Based on the previous explanation, this paper is focused on the use of authentic material in teaching and learning English in EFL classroom. It also describes how authentic material helps students improve their language skills and motivate them to learn English

    IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING SKILLS THROUGH CONTEXT CLUES AND PUNCTUATIONS AT GRADE XII MS 4 OF SMA NEGERI PLUS OF RIAU PROVINCE

    This article reports on a study intended  to explain whether context clues and punctuations could better improve the students‟ reading skills at grade XII MS 4 of SMA Negeri Plus of Riau Province and to explain what factors that change it. This research was conducted through  a  classroom  action research at SMA Negeri Plus of Riau Province, in 2017/2018 academic year. This classroom action research consisted of two cycles constituting 3 meetings for each cycle. Participants of the research were 25 of students of the grade XII MS 4 of SMA Negeri Plus Riau Province.The data were collected by using observation checklists, field notes, and test. Qualitative data were analyzed by data managing, reading or memoing, describing, classifying, interpreting.  Quantitative data were analyzed by percentage (score of reading skills), Matrix and graph.The result of this research shows that the students‟ reading skills increased in each cycles. In the first cycle, the percentage of students‟ reading skills was 80.60%. But, the result was unsatisfactory yet. In the second cycle, the increase of students‟ reading skills was 90.08%. It  means that there is an increase of students‟ reading skills in second cycles. In conclusion, the teaching of context clues and punctuations skills could increase the students‟ reading skills in understanding reading text. There were some factors that influence the changing of the students‟ reading skills by implementing context clues and punctuations, namely;(a) Time allocation in implementing of the context clues and punctuations.(b) Students‟ understanding in implementing the context clues and punctuations in reading skills. (c) Classroom atmosphere while the context clues and punctuations were implemented

    THE IMPLEMENTATION OF COOPERATIVE INTEGRATED READING COMPOSITIONON IN READING INTEREST

    To improve students’ reading interest, a comprehensive research was needed.The purpose of this research was to implement Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition(CIRC)on reading interest.This research was quasi experimental research. It was nonequivalent control group design; post-test only design. The treatments were only done in experimental class while control class was taught as usual. Regarding to population selection, total sampling was used. It consisted of two classes. They were thirty nine students. Control class was taught by small group discussion and experimental class was taught by Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition. Reading comprehension test, Questionnaire, and interview were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed by using independent t-test. The finding was students who were taught by cooperativeintegrated reading composition (CIRC) had better scores (comprehension well) thanthose who were taught by small group discussion. However the reading interest of students were still low that can be seen from the time spent for reading and kinds of book read

    Based on the result of the preliminary study, it was found that the students at SMAN 1 Rambah Hilir and SMAN 3 Rambah Hilir werelow score and not interested reading  class.  The  students  tendedto  be  passive  inlearning process.  Their  reading  comprehension  mastery  was  low  and  they  needed  a long time to understand  a reading text, even short text. The purpose of this study  was  to  find  out  the  effect  of  reciprocal  teaching  strategy  toward students‟  motivation  and  their  reading  ability  at  senior  high  school  in Rambah Hilir District Rokan Hulu regency. The design of this research was a  quasi-experimental  research  with  pre-test  and  post-test  procedure.  The data were collected through test and questionnaire. The total population was 61  students‟  of  SMA  Negeri  1  Rambah  Hilir  and  41  students‟  of  SMA Negeri 3 Rambah Hilir. This research applied a random sampling technique to get samples. Then, the data were analyzed by using t-test method to find out  whether  there  is  significant  difference  between  the  experimental  group taught by using Reciprocal teaching strategy as a treatment, and the control group  taught  conventionally.  The  research  result,  the  writer  found  that significant probabilities was higher than 0.05 (> 0.05) in both paired sample t-test  and  independent  sample  t-test,  it  meantthat  there  is  significant different  on  students  reading  comprehension  in  pre-test  both  classes  and  in post-test  of  both  classes,  and  there  is  significant  different  on  students‟ motivation  before  and  after  treatment  of  experimental  class.    Besides,  the value of eta square of students‟ was 0.97 at SMAN 1 Rambah Hilir and 0.96 at  SMAN  3  Rambah  Hilir.  It  showed  it gave  significant  effect  toward students‟ motivation and their reading abilit
