AKTIVITAS ANTIMIKROBA BAKTERI ASAM LAKTAT YANG DIISOLASI DARI MAKANAN TRADISIONAL FERMENTASI KHAS BATAK “NANIURAâ€
Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) could be isolated from various fermented food products. One potential source of LAB is traditional fermented food. The aim of the study was to isolate and investigate antimicrobial activity of LAB isolated from traditional Batak food, “naniuraâ€. The LAB isolates were characterized by Gram staining, fermentation type and catalase test. The investigation of antimicrobial activity of LAB against pathogenic bacteria were conducted using disc diffusion method. The results showed that 6 isolates of BAL were successfully isolated namely BN1, BN2, BN3, BN4, BN5 and BN6 had characteristics of Gram positive, rod shaped and catalase negative. All selected isolate have heterofermentation type. Four isolates (BN1, BN2, BN5 and BN6) were able to inhibit S. aureus, E. coli and S. typhi with inhibition zone diameters ranging from 6,9 to 12,3 cm. Based on the result, it was concluded that LAB isolated from naniura has potential as a source of probiotics
DAYA HAMBAT DAUN MANUKAN (Rhinacanthus nasutus (L) Kurz) TERHADAP BAKTERI STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS SECARA IN VITRO
The use of antimicrobial such as antibiotics  against infectious diseases with no control is quite common in Indonesia. This leads to increase morbidity and incidence of drug resistance. Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogenic bacteria, particularly infects the skin. The resistance it difficult to determine which antimicrobials were suitable for therapy. Manukan leaves have an active substance Rhinacanthin can be used as an anti-bacterial. The aim of this study was to determine the inhibition of ethanol extract of manukan leaves (Rhinacanthus nasutus (L) Kurz) against gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus) in vitro with the extract concentration of 15,  30, and 60% as a control. This study was a true experiment through the in vitro test with the Kirby Bauer method. The results showed that the average diameter of the inhibition zone was at an extract concentration of 15, 30, and 60% are 9.97 mm, 10.95mm, and 13.18 mm. The Kruskal-Wallis test results showed a significant difference between the four treatment groups (p= 0.010). The Mann-Whitney test showed significant differences in the inhibition zone between control and treatment at 15, 30 and 60% (p= 0.037). In conclusion leave ethanol extract of manukan has antimicrobial activitiy in inhibiting staphylococcus aureus
SKRINING FITOKIMIA DAN FORMULASI SEDIAAN MASKER PEEL-OFF EKSTRAK ETANOL GAMBIR (Uncaria gambir (W. HUNTER) ROXB) SECARA PERKOLASI
Gambir (Uncaria gambir (W. Hunter) Roxb) contains catechins, quercetin, alkaloids, flavonoids and tannins that have a role as antioxidants. The objectives of this research is to observe whether or not extract etanol Gambir can be formulated by Peel Off mask preparation form. In this experimental methods, the extract was obtained by percolate extraction using 80% ethanol, and then concentrated with a rotary evaporator at 40ºC and dried by evaporation over a water bath at a temperature around 60ºC. Phytochemical screening was used to test the content of the chemical compounds found in gambir and gambir ethanol extract. The results of the screening test showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. This research concluded that extract of ethanol of gambir can be formulated in the form of peel-off mask in a homogeneous preparation that has no skin irritation, pH 5.2 to 5.6 and stable in storage for 4 weeks
ISOLASI DAN IDENTIFIKASI BAKTERI PENGHASIL IAA DAN PELARUT FOSFAT DARI RHIZOSFER TANAMAN KELAPA SAWIT
The potential of various genera and species of rhizosphere bacteria is well known. This study aims to determine the diversity and physiological characteristics of the rhizosphere bacterial isolates of oil palm plants at PTPN III Aek Nabara Labuhanbatu North Sumatra. This research was conducted in July 2018 to October 2018 in laboratory of STIPER Labuhanbatu. This research was conducted by isolating bacteria from the root rhizosphere of oil palm plants, characterizing the morphology and physiology of isolates by phosphate dissolution test and indole acetic acid production test. Furthermore, the data was analyzed descriptively. Based on the isolation results obtained 10 bacterial isolates with different macroscopic and microscopic morphological characteristics with the largest amount of dissolved phosphate produced by isolate R05 (0.211 mg / l) and the largest amount of IAA produced by isolate R04 (0.097 mg / l). Isolates R05 and R04 have the potential to be further tested
IDENTIFIKASI DAN UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI KAPANG LAUT DIISOLASI DARI KORAL LUNAK FAVITES SP.
The aims of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial activity of fungi associated with coral. The fungi was cultured by streak plate method on potato dextrose agar (PDA) and reisolated with the same medium and were stored in slant agar for identified with morphological approach. Antibacterial activity fungi associated with coral was tested using overlay method against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Based on morphological analysis, five fungi were identified as Candidasp., Fusariumsp., Cladophialophorasp., Phaeoacremoniumsp., and Trichophytonsp. The antibacterial assay showed that Phaeoacremoniumsp. and Trichophytonsp. has antibacterial activity and potential as source of antibacterial for futher study
ANALISA TINGKAT PENCEMARAN LOGAM BERAT TIMBAL (Pb) DI DAERAH ALIRAN SUNGAI DELI SUMATERA UTARA
The Deli river is the Pioritas I River Basin in North Sumatra, the level of community activity in the Deli river border is high such as settlements, offices, schools and industries, the community has the potential to produce a lot of solid waste in the estuary to the river body so as to make the river polluted, parameters pollution is heavy metal. The purpose of this study is to analyze the Pb content in the Deli River using the AAS tool, from the analysis of the deli river pollution level, the Lead Analysis Result (Pb) obtained from upstream to downstream is an average value of 0.003 ppm, this means that lead pollution (Pb) in the river Deli is still relatively low or has not been polluted by lead heavy metals (Pb) because according to Government Regulation No. 82 of 2001 concerning Water Quality Management and quality pollution control of 0.03 ppm standard water
TINGKAT DAN POLA DISTRIBUSI INFESTASI PENGGEREK BATANG JAGUNG OSTRINIA FURNACALIS (LEPIDOPTERA: CRAMBIDAE) DI PADANGSIDIMPUAN
Ostrinia furnacalis Guenee as known as Asian corn stem borer is one of the main pests in corn cultivation practices in Indonesia. Besides Indonesia, these pests attack in other Asian regions such as Central Asia, East Asia, and also Australia. This study was aimed to measure the intensity of infestation and to analyze patterns of distribution of O. furnacalis in corn field. The observations of intensity and infestation distribusiton were held on 12 corn plantations owned by farmers in six sub-districts of Padangsidimpuan. Results showed that The lowest infested area of O. furnacalis larvae was 1.1%, while the highest was 4.31%. O. furnacalis larvae infestations at each plant in each plantations has a random distribution and the distribution was varies among corb fields
UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK METANOL DAUN BAWANG BATAK (Allium chinense G. Don) TERHADAP Streptococcus mutans DAN Bacillus cereus SEBAGAI BAKTERI GRAM POSITIF
Batak Onion (Allium chinense G. Don) is one of the species of Allium plant which is used as a flavor enhancer typical for North Sumatran Batak cuisine. In addition, the Batak onion is believed to be a health herbal remedy such as an antibacterial agent. This research aims to determine antibacterial activity of methanol extracts of Batak leeks (Allium Chinense G. Don) on Streptococcus mutans and Bacillus cereus as Positive Gram Bacteria. The method was the agar diffusion method. Methanol extracts of Batak leeks were diluted using Dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) with concentration variations (0.88, 1.66 and 2.5)%. DMSO also was used as negative blank. The research model was in Vitro experimental research model.  The results showed that methanol extract of Batak leek had antibacterial activity against S. mutans with inhibition zone diameter (5,10.5,12.7)mm and B. cereus with inhibition zone diameter (10,12.4 , 12.2)mm. UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK DAUN SERAI WANGI (CYMBOPOGON NARDUS) TERHADAP BAKTERI PROPIONIBACTERIUM ACNES
Acne is a disease of the skin that often occurs during adolescence until adulthood. Acne is characterized by the appearance of several signs, namely blackheads, pustules, papules, cysts and nodes in the neck, face, upper arms, back and chest area. Acne is also a skin disease that affects more than 85% of adolescents around the world. Although not life-threatening, acne can affect a person's quality of life by giving a psychological effect that is bad for the sufferer in the form of a person's way of judging, responding to and looking at his condition and situation. The purpose of this study was to determine the inhibitory power of citronella extract (Cymbopogon nardus) on the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The study was conducted with experimental methods with the posttest design only group design controls conducted at the Microbiology Lab at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Prima Indonesia and the Pharmacy and Toxicology Lab at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of North Sumatra. The results showed that lemongrass leaf extract had a inhibitory effect on the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria with various concentrations of 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100%. EKSTRAK RIMPANG KUNYIT (Curcuma longa Linn) MENURUNKAN PENYAKIT PERLEMAKAN HATI NON-ALKOHOLIK
The use of recycled frying oil or deep frying oil (DFO) lead to increase in free fatty acid, trans fatty acid and free radical compound. It can cause non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). a chronic liver disease cause the risk for cirrhosis and heart cancer. However, there is no medicine for preventing the disease. The present study was conducted to investigate the turmeric reduces steatosis hepatocyte of male Wistar rat NAFLD model. The study used experimental randomize post-test only control group design. The 24 samples consist of four treatment groups. Group I (control): normal diet + DFO (10 μl/g/day on 6 times heating), Group II, III and IV: normal diet + DFO (10 μl/g/day on 6 times heating)+ turmeric Extract (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg/day) by given for 30 days through oral induction. The results of Kruskal-Wallis test showed a significant difference between the four treatment groups (P= 0.019) .The results of Mann-Whitney test showed significant difference in steatosis hepatocyte between the control group (P1) and treatment group(P3) the dose of 200 mg/kg BW. This suggests that a dose of 200 mg/kg BW is an effective dose in decreasing hepatocyte steatosis
