    Get PDF
This paper aims to analyze the impact of liquidity risk management on the financial performance of selected conventional banks in Saudi Arabia for the period of 2002-2019. Liquidity risk is measured with the loan to deposit ratio (LTD) and cash to deposit ratio (CTD). Financial performance is measured by the Return on Equity (ROE). Equity to total asset ratio (ETA) is used as the control variable. The study uses the panel data method (Pool, Fixed-effects and Random-effects) for testing the study hypothesis. The results show that liquidity risk has a significant negative impact on the financial performance measured by Saudi Arabian banks

    Get PDF
This paper seeks to appraise the uncertainty of oil price influence on the activities of Nigerian economy with regard to human development in Nigeria. The research utilized the annual time series data spanning between 1981-2018, and the stationarity of the observed variables was tested by carrying out a unit root test and the stationarity of most of the observed variables were revealed at first difference. The secondary data employed were analyzed with the aid of least square technique of data analysis to assess the association between the observed variables. In response to the outcomes of the analysis, it was revealed that crude oil price positively and insignificantly influences life expectancy, but significantly influences consumption per capital and contrarily, it revealed negative and insignificant influence on physical quality of life and education index. It was inferred by the study that, there is existence of a comparative association of oil price with the indicators of Nigerian economic development. However, there is divergence of influence of the mechanisms of economic attributes as well as performance indicators. The study recommends that, a strict measure of monetary policy should be adopted by the government to regulate the rates of interest and inflation in the economy on a regular basis

Creating Brand Image Profile by Social Media Analysis

    Get PDF
The purpose of creating a brand image profile is to measure the brand perception of consumers considering brand attributes. Thus, marketing decisions can be made based on the brand\u27s strengths and weaknesses by determining them. The brand image profile is traditionally created using the attitude scales and surveys. However, alternative methods are needed since the questionnaires\u27 responses are careless, the number of participants is relatively low and the cost per participant is high. In this study, as an alternative method, creating a brand image profile by analyzing social media data with artificial intelligence was made for the iPhone product. Firstly, the focus group study determined the attributes related to the last version of the iPhone. Then, between December 17th, 2019 and March 23rd, 2020, 87.227 tweets that include these attributes in English were collected from the Twitter social media platform through the RapidMiner data mining tool. Sentiment analysis was performed on collected tweets by the MeaningCloud text mining tool. In this analysis, positive and negative emotions were tried to be detected through artificial intelligence algorithms. Net Brand Reputation Score (NBR) was calculated using the positive and negative tweets amount for each attribute separately. Brand image profile was created by skew analysis using NBR values. As a result, it is thought that social media analysis can be a complementary method that can be used with traditional methods in creating a brand image profile. So, it is seen as an inevitable method to use in further studies to make sentiment analysis by processing raw data received from the Social Media platforms through artificial intelligence algorithms to transform the product label or the perspectives of an event into meaningful information

Emerging Countries as the Main Destinations for European Value-Added Exports

    Get PDF
Nowadays, production chains may cross the borders of several continents in search of greater profitability. In order to more accurately calculate countries’ foreign demand, value-added exports should be used rather than gross exports. This study takes the value-added exports calculated for European Union countries and uses extended gravity models to analyze the determinants of this trade, differentiating between countries according to the main destinations for their value-added, USA, Russia and China. The results reveal certain changes according to the economic period analyzed and the destination of the goods, with respect to key variables such as the wealth of the exporting country, the level of logistics performance and distance. In 2014, China registered an improvement in its position compared to Russia

Barriers to Adopting Electronic Commerce for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in Emerging Economies

    Get PDF
With the availability of the Internet as an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tool, electronic commerce (e-commerce) has received much attention in many Western and developed countries. However, it has been given little attention in emerging economies, and therefore e-commerce adoption has been particularly difficult for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). The purpose of this review paper is to explore several types of barriers that influence the adoption of e-commerce by SMEs in emerging economies. An exhaustive review of the literature was conducted on the subject. It further evaluates and extends Tornatzky and Fleischer’s (1990) Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework by adding a micro-level context - that of the ‘entrepreneurial (individual) characteristics of owner-managers’ to examine various contextual challenges SMEs face in adopting e-commerce in emerging economies. The paper examines a number of new dynamic and contextual barriers identified in the study, grouping them into four themes: technological, organizational, environmental and extended ‘entrepreneurial (individual) characteristics of owner-managers’. The paper sets up a new conceptual framework and has established a holistic view of contextual barrier themes for the coming years. In addition, this theoretical model provides us with the new barriers related to ‘entrepreneurial (individual) characteristics of owners/managers’ and ‘local business institutions in supporting e-commerce’ that influences the adoption of e-commerce by SMEs in emerging economies. Based on this extended framework, future areas of research can be determined, and owner-managers of SMEs, new entrepreneurs and government authorities in emerging economies will be able to identify emerging concepts in e-commerce

    Get PDF
This study attempts to explore the factors that may lead to the choice behind sophisticated management accounting practices (SMAP) in an emerging economy, Bangladesh. A semi-structured questionnaire has been developed to capture the market data and different descriptive and inferential statistical tools have been used to test relevant hypotheses. The findings of the study are helpful for the management accounting practitioners, academics, and researchers to understand the current state of management accounting practices in an emerging market. In addition, the study brings an extension to existing literature by exploring potential causal relationship between sophistication in applying management accounting tools and satisfaction of management accounting practitioners. This study confirms that there is a missing link between practitioners’ satisfaction and SMAP. It gives a signal to the market that the critical decision-making process is not supported by tactical exercises and market lacks professionalism greatly which may act as an obstacle to develop a competitive business environment

Examination of Consumption Expenditure Distribution among NUTS-2 Regions in 2007-2018 with GINI Coefficient

    Get PDF
In this study, the distribution of 12 main expenditure categories included in the consumer price index (CPI) among NUTS-2 (Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics-2) regions is examined. The study covers the years 2007-2018. In the study, interregional consumption expenditure rates are identified with the Gini coefficient, which is a measure of inequality and the obtained consumption expenditure rates through the years are interpreted. The coefficients calculated for each expenditure category are important in terms of revealing the course of consumption behavior of households in Turkey over the years and reflecting the best and worst distribution at the NUTS-2 level. Findings regarding the expenditure categories show that the consumption behavior in Turkey in the relevant period is far from equal at the regional level. According to the findings, the expenditure category with the highest inequality at the NUTS-2 level is the food and non-alcoholic beverages category with an average Gini coefficient of 0.3031. The expenditure category with the highest equal distribution, on the other hand, is the education category with a Gini coefficient of 0.2307 according to the findings

    Get PDF
The concept of organizational leadership has engendered a lot of arguments. This is because the effect of leadership on every human endeavor cannot be over emphasized. This study examines the effect of organizational leadership styles, particularly transformational and servant leadership styles on deposit money banks (DMBs) employees’ performance in Nigeria. The study employs survey research design, through the administration of structured questionnaire on some selected employees of Guaranty Trust Bank, United Bank for Africa and First Bank. The research instrument was validated through content validity index, while test-retest method was employed in ascertaining the reliability of the research instrument. The findings revealed that transformational leadership and servant leadership styles have positive and significant combined effect on deposit money banks employees’ performance (F-stat= 58.02 *0.000). The adjusted coefficient of determination (adjusted R2) suggested that, 39.4% variation in employees’ performance is accounted for by transformational leadership and servant leadership styles. The t-value revealed that when the two variables (transformational leadership and servant leadership styles) are combined, they both have positive and significant effect on deposit money banks employees’ performance. Therefore, it can be concluded that transformational leadership and servant leadership styles both have individual as well as combined positive and significant effect on deposit money banks employees’ performance

Defining Influential Factors of Capital Adequacy Ratio: An Examination upon Turkish Banking Sector (2006/Q1-2019/Q1)

    Get PDF
Capital adequacy ratio (CAR) of the Turkish Banking Sector (TBS) decreased dramatically from 30.9% in 2003 to 17.1% as of May 2019. This figure shows that although TBS has still a relatively high CAR compared to many countries, unfortunately there is a decreasing trend. A downward trend in CAR constitutes risks due to the limit of providing credits. Therefore, the level of CAR has importance for making a positive contribution to sustainable economic growth. So, influential factors of CAR should be determined first. In this context, Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS) method, 14 explanatory variables, and quarterly data are used for the period of 2006/Q1-2019/Q1. It is determined that credits/total assets ratio, legal equities, risk weighted assets, nonperforming loans (NPL), NPL/total credits ratio, and credit/deposit ratio are influential factors on CAR in Turkey
