The spectre of genderism is haunting: The rise and strengthening of anti-gender mobilization in Serbia
The objective of this presentation is to comprehensively analyze the discursive and mobilization strategies employed in the anti-gender campaigns in Serbia, shedding light on the evolving dynamics and key elements that characterize them. The prominence of anti-gender mobilization has increased significantly in the Serbian context since 2017. Throughout various campaigns, representatives of the anti-gender discourse have successfully imposed their ideas. Also, over a period of 6 years, both the number and the types of actors involved in anti-gender campaigns have expanded. In addition to conservative intellectuals, representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and far-right parties and movements, who were initially the main proponents of the anti-gender movement, the discourse has been taken over by online activists and centrist politicians and government representatives. The analysis will cover issues such as opposition to educational packages against sexual violence, resistance against same-sex partnerships, attempts to cancel Pride events, rejection of biology textbooks that include the notion of gender, and efforts to influence language policy. Secondly, we will investigate the discursive strategies employed by representatives of the anti-gender mobilization, focusing on the ideological framing of gender as a contemporary threat. Tracing the evolution of this mobilization, the analysis reveals a shift from early phases of mobilization when the term “homosexual ideology” was predominant to the later emphasis on “gender ideology.” In examining this, we will stress the idea of “cultures of rejection” in relation to the legitimization of “othering” and “exclusion” done by anti-gender actors highlighting the role of “anti-colonialism” and “anti-neoliberalism” as crucial for understanding the appeal of these mobilizing strategies
St Justin the New on the Church of Christ
The aim of the paper is to investigate St. Justin Popović’s under- standing of Church. Drawing from personal experience, socio-historical context, and a universal perspective, St Justin perceives the Church as transcending temporal and created limitations. The paper initially explores St. Justin’s dialogue with St. Apostle Paul for existential guidance, and his utilization of St. Sava as a model for embracing a God-humanist ethos. Additionally, the paper delves into St. Justin’s perception of the Church as the unifying element in society. Lastly, the paper scrutinizes St. Justin’s conception of the Church as the unity of God and cre- ation. The paper demonstrates that St. Justin’s ecclesiology, evolving through per- sonal and national challenges, culminates in the unity of humanity with the God- man, echoing the Church’s foundation on divine-human hypostasis of Christ
Improving Kosovo-Serbia Economic Relations
Arguably, economic cooperation between Serbia and Kosovo* has been at its lowest points in recent years, due to blockage of economic exchange imposed for political reasons. Most recently, this cooperation has been critically endangered by the ban on the use of Serbian Dinars in Kosovo, followed by a rather complete absence of any cooperation between the two central banks in Belgrade and Prishtina. However, trade and economic exchange functioned relatively well for mutual benefits at times in the past and there is much room for improvement
Muzej 2.0: primena digitalnih tehnologija u Narodnom muzeju Srbije (1992–2024)
The Revival of the Left in the Balkans: Counter-Hegemonic Activism and Ideas that Fueled it
This book explores how the critical discursive breakthrough of social movements in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia disrupted the post-socialist transitional status quo. While critical ideas have long fueled social and political actions, the specifics of their relationship with activism have received limited scholarly attention. This book discusses the emergence of new left actors through the lens of a maturation of consciousness, rather than the opening of structural or other “windows of opportunity,” suggesting the potential for such actors to emerge stemmed from the exposure of a segment of the populace to critical ideas. Questions surrounding the relevance of different types of knowledge in contemporary movements, their origins, dissemination, and the organizational factors shaping their adoption within social movement collectives are central to this work as the author digs into the intricate relationship between critical knowledge and activism, explores the cognitive underpinnings of critical social and political engagement, and examines the influence of both non-theoretical and theoretical knowledge. This book will be of great value to postgraduate students and scholars in social sciences, particularly those studying social movements and Eastern and Southeastern European politics

Kako predavati književnost Holokausta: istorija, jezik i emocije
Architecture in the Shadow of Catastrophe and Collapse
T: Instead of discourses about specific ends, which Fredric
Jameson wrote about in relation to the cultural logic of postmodernism,
we are increasingly faced with discourses about the ecological catastrophe or civilizational collapse as a comprehensive end. The article raises
the question of how this gives rise to a new way of thinking about architecture and the end (or the end of an architectural paradigm). Instead of
greenwashing architecture, a stricter, systemic and truly holistic approach
is offered, which takes into account, for example, the crisis of access to certain raw materials. With this in mind, the article analyzes the significance
of the Colossus and the ruins. Special attention is paid to the role of architecture in discourses about collapse, and in the (neo-)survivalist and collapse-aware movements. Finally, it is pointed out that we tend to think of
the end with the help of architectural metaphors (like when Greta Thunberg says “our house is on fire. I am here to say, our house is on fire”)
The End as Emptiness : A Transcultural Reflection on Architectural Practices
The logic of the tetralemma, as interpreted by the Japanese philosopher Yamauchi Tokuryū, integrates space as an in-between
sphere in thinking. In his understanding, the tetralemma allows for a combination of four relational operations: one of identity, one of contradiction, the complementarity of both, and even the negation of this complementarity. I will examine the notion of the end in these four parameters, regarding the relevance of this reflection for the architectural practice and theory in inter- and transcultural terms. To that end, one example from contemporary and one from traditional Japanese architecture is discussed. Because of the philosophical context of Yamauchi’s research in the 1970s, his argumentation is compared to a critique on the
metaphysical background of the idea of identity, by reflecting on conceptual contributions of Gilles Deleuze, Jacques Derrida, and Bernhard Waldenfels, to question the tetralemma in the horizon of differentiation
Risk And Responsibility at the Frontier Of AI: a Thematic Analysis Of Deep Learning Pioneers’ Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence Threats and Governance
As artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes global societies, understanding its associated risks and governance imperatives is of urgent social importance. This study fills a critical gap by systematically analyzing extended interviews with Geoffrey Hinton, Yoshua Bengio, and Yann LeCun – to elucidate their firsthand perspectives on AI’s existential, ethical, social, and governance challenges. Employing qualitative thematic analysis across six longitudinal interview transcripts, the
research identifies both convergences and divergences: Hinton and Bengio strongly emphasize existential threats, superintelligence hazards, AI weapons risks, and the need for robust global regulation, while LeCun expresses technological optimism and favors decentralized, open development. All acknowledge economic disruption, misuse of potential, and fractures in democratic discourse. The study’s findings reveal that expert opinion on AI risk is far from monolithic and highlight actionable, innovative governance proposals, from regulated compute access to “diversity engines” in social media feeds. Implications include the necessity for adaptive, internationally coordinated AI governance and greater professional accountability among developers. Limitations include a focus on elite, Anglophone experts and inherent subjectivity in qualitative coding. Future research should expand to multi-stakeholder and cross-national perspectives, and test proposed regulatory frameworks in real-world contexts
