Exploring the Socio-Technical Imaginary of Artificial General Intelligence in The Bard Large Language Model: A Narrative Analysis on Perspectives and Dialectics

    No full text
The 2022 release of ChatGPT sparked widespread discussions on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Through a detailed examination of an interview with Bard, a large language model, the study uncovers narratives of optimism and pessimism regarding AGI's future implications. It found a higher leaning towards optimism about AGI's potential effects, extending from education, arts, and relationships, to economy and space exploration. Conversely, pessimistic views pointed out potential downsides, such as unemployment, political instability, and media manipulation. The study also identified four primary AGI themes - the relationship between humans and AGI, AGI acquiring a physical form, AGI simulating a universe, and the responsible utilization of AGI. These insights aid in understanding the complex socio-technical imaginary surrounding AGI. The study has its limitations as it is based solely on the responses provided by Bard during its test phase. Additional research may reveal changes in AGI discourse representation as the model evolves

Large Language Models Observatory: Creating New Benchmarks for AI Alignment in Sentiment Analysis of Socially Critical Issues

    No full text
This lecture inquiries into the increasingly vital subject of Large Language Models (LLMs) and their profound influence on society. As artificial intelligence systems are progressively integrated into our societies, the necessity to critically understand and measure their impacts continuously increases. Our key focus will be to initiate the development of a benchmark for evaluating the sentiment of various LLMs, using methodologies such as the Likert scale survey. We will detail the analysis of seven LLMs, including GPT-4 and Bard, and contrast their sentiment data with that from three distinct human sample populations. In addition, we will analyse temporal sentiment variations over a sequential three-day period. The lecture concludes with an exploration of potential conflicts of interest, bias possibilities in LLMs, and an intriguing discussion about how these systems might subtly shape societal perceptions. Join us as we unravel how AI, mirroring human cognitive processes, could potentially develop unique sentiments and influence our opinions

Medijsko izveštavanje o aferi Fotopab u Sloveniji – seksualno nasilje u kontekstu digitalnog feminizma, medijskog senzacionalizma i novinarske profesije

The article examines media coverage of the “Fotopub Affair” in Slovenia. The affair emerged in August 2022 when an Instagram profile moderated by anonymous per-son(s) began posting allegations of sexual and psychological violence of Dušan Smodej, curator and cultural manager active inside the Slovenian cultural and artistic scene. This profile quickly gained traction as several individuals came forward with similar stories. Roman Uranjek, a prominent Slovenian artist, was also implicated in the affair, and took his own life after the scandal broke, further intensifying the media frenzy

Revenge Porn Victims: Do We Percieve Male and Female Victims Differently?

    No full text
Osvetnička pornografija, kao oblik rodno zasnovanog nasilja, sve je veći problem kojeg donose digitalni mediji. Mnoge žrtve doživljavaju da njihovi bivši partneri dijele njihov seksualno eksplicitan sadržaj bez njihovog pristanka. Shodno tome, trpe brojne nepovoljne posljedice, uključujući psihički stres i socijalnu izolaciju. Revenge porn, a form of gender-based violence, is a growing issue brought by digital media. Many victims experience their ex-partners sharing sexually explicit content without their consent. Consequently, they suffer numerous unfavorable consequenc es, including psychological distress and social isolation. Here we aimed to investigate how victims of revenge porn are perceived when considering their gender. We also sought to understand whether sexist attitudes moderate victim impression formation. We measured hostile and benevolent sexism of 169 participants (Mage = 27.45, SDage = 10.26). Then, we randomly assigned them to a male and female victim condition where they read an online article about a revenge porn victim. Then, they rated the victim on their warmth and competence. Participants in the female victim condition rated the victim as warmer and more competent than their counterparts in the male victim condition. In addition, hostile, but not benevolent, sexism predicted victim warmth perception regardless of their gender. However, both types of sexist attitudes did not moderate condition differences in warmth and competence perceptions. Our results show that male revenge porn victims might instill even more negative perceptions than females and that previous (hostile) sexist attitudes might help understand how people percieve revenge porn victim

    Jaspers'Philosophical Thanatology

    No full text
Dasein) i egzistencije. The article starts from the analysis of Jaspers'concept of death as a limitsituation, with special reference to the difference between Dasein and existence. Particular attention is paid to the way in which Jaspers determines the relationship between death and transcendence. Jaspersian death is also interpreted as “atemporalizing” eternity. It is emphasized that his philosophical thanatology is fundamentally different from the Stoic and Epicurean view of death. In contrast to Peach's interpretation, it is suggested that an adequate reading of Jaspers's philosophy of death combines mystical and existential aspects. On the other hand, contrary to Csejtei's claim, the article shows that death in Jaspers is not solipsistic but has a very strong intersubjective dimension. Accordingly, the death of the Other is interpreted in the context of love

    Praktični aspekti Epikurove filozofije obrazovanja

    No full text
Njegov egalitarni i inkluzivni model stoji nasuprot hijerarhijskim i konkurentskim modelima mnogih savremenih obrazovnih institucija.

Astral Meriotherapy and Physiophoton Belts: Familiarity with Non-Existent Medical Practices Is Rooted in the Irrational Mindset

    No full text
While traditional, complementary, and alternative medicine (TCAM) often positions itself as the alternative to the biomedical approach, it still relies on the epistemic authority of science in its promotion. This is evident even in the naming of TCAM practices, which are often labeled in a way that signals their novelty and impressiveness. In this study, we explored whether (1) people will claim to be familiar with a made-up practice based on its name alone, (2) this tendency is related to attitudes towards TCAM and TCAM use, but also (3) to the irrational mindset, a broad set of cognitive biases and beliefs that do not comply with principles of normative logic. To do so, we embedded a total of five made-up practices (e.g., astral meriotherapy) within a larger list of real TCAM practices and asked participants if they were familiar with them. A total of N = 500 participants reported their familiarity with non-existent practices and filled out measures of their TCAM attitudes and use, as well as irrational mindset measures - conspiracy mentality, magical health beliefs, illusory correlation, and omission bias. We show that the tendency to recognize fake practices as real is positively related to all irrational mindset variables, as well as to TCAM attitudes and use. The strongest predictor of this tendency was the endorsement of magical health beliefs. Our results demonstrate the existence of a more general susceptibility to pseudoscientific jargon and illustrate the ways this tendency can be used in interventions to reduce the use of non-evidence-based practices
