Humor Styles Are Related to Loneliness Across 15 Countries

    No full text
The relationships between self-report loneliness and the four humor styles of affiliative, aggressive, self-defeating, and self-enhancing were investigated in 15 countries (N = 4,701). Because loneliness has been suggested to be both commonly experienced and detrimental, we examine if there are similar patterns between humor styles, gender, and age with loneliness in samples of individuals from diverse backgrounds. Across the country samples, affiliative and self-enhancing humor styles negatively correlated with loneliness, self-defeating was positively correlated, and the aggressive humor style was not significantly related. In predicting loneliness, 40.5% of the variance could be accounted. Younger females with lower affiliative, lower self-enhancing, and higher self-defeating humor style scores had higher loneliness scores. The results suggest that although national mean differences may be present, the pattern of relationships between humor styles and loneliness is consistent across these diverse samples, providing some suggestions for mental health promotion among lonely individuals

    No full text

Cryptoart and Digital Humanities: Transtechnological Perspectives and the Challenge of Tactical Positions

    No full text
Contemporary times always pose a challenge for theoreticians who try to map it and encode it. Nevertheless, it is more than important to grapple with present times and bring out the topics that can engage understanding of present discourses, potentials, and possibilities. It is even more true with art and humanities that, each on its side, faced significant challenges from the rise of technology-driven reality. As for the art, it seems that technology gives more opportunities and options than ever, but it is not without questions of value, authenticity, ownership, commodification, or artivist practices. As for the humanities, they already faced the alleged “crisis” due to the new wave of technocracy. New technology offers new media, new languages, and new discourses. But is it all good news? Should art and humanities form a kind of a (trans)tactical (im)pact and adopt the technology language, or would such a turn create more slippery points than easy-going practices? This paper will try to examine transdisciplinary and transtechnological coordinates of art and humanities taking the case study of cryptoart and blockchain system usage in contemporary artistic practices. This will also engage the discussion about digital humanities, which might be one of the next transdisciplinary steps to continue the fierce line of experimentation, and to combat the trend of going back to disciplinary frameworks

On the metamorphosis of one Institution of Civil Society

The article presents a version of the evolution of the police institution, which was originally part of civil society, not the state. A few paragraphs from Hegel’s lectures on the philosophy of law become the starting point of this reconstruc tion. Based on the ideas expressed in them, the author explains the mechanism of the emergence of the police from the activities of citizens to establish rules (pro tocols) of interaction, the supervision of which they jointly conduct for the com mon good – this, in fact, is the purpose of the police initially. The proposed re construction can be useful in two aspects. Firstly, it points to the gradual degeneration of the institution of the police, to its transformation from an institu tion of civil society into an element of the state system and an organ of external violence, and consequently, to a decrease in the participation of citizens in the supervision of the observance of the common good and their transformation into a passive object of alien power influence. Secondly, this reconstruction shows that various types of modern civic activity in the field of social policy (policy making) originated as part of the first police protocols and related actions
