Alternativa kapitalizmu – demokratski protagonizam u 21. veku
The paper explores the possibility of creating a positive vision of post capitalist society and economy, a blue-print for future society with
reminiscence to the existing valuable drafts such as Marx and Engels’s
Communist Manifesto. Also, it focuses on shortcomings of that blue-print
that became evident through the experiences of 20th-century real
socialisms. Following Canadian Marxist Michael Lebowitz, the paper
elaborates on how the vision of socialism for the 21st century should
place central emphasis on the importance of changing the social relations
of production. The central problem is located in the “vanguard relations
of production”, the central power and hierarchical authority in the hand
of the party vanguard. The paper stresses the importance of the communist
party as central to the articulation of the interests of the proletarian class
as a whole, a class whose central interest is the overthrow of capitalism.
However, the project of overthrowing capitalism must include the
recognition of the practical comprehension of the importance of the
democratic protagonism. Workers cannot be subordinated as passive
observers of the system change. A change in social circumstances should
simultaneously mean a change in the actors themselves – the socialist
protagonists.Rad ispituje mogućnosti stvaranja pozitivne vizije post-kapitalističkog društva i ekonomije,
nacrt budućeg društva uz evociranje vrednih nacrta kao što je Komunistički manifest Marksa
i Engelsa.
promene proizvodnih odnosa.
mora simultano značiti i promenu samih aktera – društvenih protagonista
Loneliness and vertical and horizontal collectivism and individualism: A multinational study
This paper investigates how horizontal and vertical individualism and collectivism predict self-report loneliness in addition to the variance accounted for by age and sex in 28 countries (N = 8,345). Horizontal and vertical aspects of individualism and collectivism had small but significant contributions to predicting loneliness. Horizontal-collectivism (for 19 country samples) and, to a lesser extent, horizontal-individualism (for seven country samples), significantly predicted lower loneliness scores. Vertical-individualism (for 16 country samples), and to a lesser extent, vertical-collectivism (for six country samples), predicted feeling more loneliness among our participants. Adjusted R2 values suggested that between 0.6% and 27.7% of self-report loneliness was predicted. These results suggest that those who value egalitarian social relations also tend to report being less lonely whereas those who value individuality and competitiveness endorse the loneliness items more. These results are of importance to those investigating and helping lonely individuals by appreciating the influence of perceived culture
Relationship between pet attachment and wellbeing: A matter of reduced stress?
The purpose of this study was to examine how attachment to pets relates to the psychological
well-being of an individual. Previous research shows that relationship with pets has qualities
of psychological attachment and can positively affect well-being: pets provide love and
comfort to their owners, and they are perceived as support during difficult periods of life. We,
therefore, expected that attachment to pets would be a significant predictor of psychological
well-being. In addition, assuming that contact with pets can alleviate everyday stress, we tested
whether a reduced experience of stress mediated this relationship. A survey was conducted
among a community sample of pet owners (N =215). The sample consisted of respondents aged
13 to 66 years, with an average age of 30 (M = 29.92, SD =10.70; 81.4% women). Participants
indicated their attachment to a favorite pet (using The Short Attachment to Pets Scale; SAPS,
α =.89), subjective well-being (using The Pemberton Happiness Index, α = .91), and the current
level of perceived stress (using The Serbian version of the Perceived Stress Scale, α = .65). The
results revealed a positive relationship between pet attachment and well-being (r = .238, p
=.001). However, the assumption that attachment to pets will reduce the experience of stress
turned out to be unsupported. Conversely, participants who were more attached to their pets
also expressed more experience of stress (r = .211, p = .005). Mediation analysis showed that
the relationship between pet attachment and well-being was not mediated by the experience of
stress (b = -0.01, SE = 0.02, 95%CI [-0.05, 0.01]). One possible interpretation is that individuals
more attached to their pets are generally more caring and emotional so they might be more
sensitive to stressors. Another possible interpretation is that taking care of pets in itself causes
stress. The relationship between caring for pets, stress, and well-being appears to be more
complex and needs further study. Still, current findings can be a significant starting point for
future research on the relationship between pet attachment and psychological well-being in the
local cultural context
In No Time. Temporal Foundations of the Concept of Competency
The paper deals with the construction of architec tural competency, starting from the entwinement of
the terms competency and competence. Following the
etymology of the two words, we define the distinc tion between them through the problem of time. On
the one hand, competence is atemporal in nature,
while on the other hand, competency is necessarily
directed at the present. The bond with the present is
explained by defining competency as the capacity to
produce the new, understood as Deleuzian difference,
which objectifies time and always puts it in the order
of the present. In the discipline of architecture, the
concept of competency is defined through the problem
of the extensiveness of theory, which obviates the
production of the new. In that sense, competency is
interpreted as the ability to preserve the (conceptual)
unity of the singular new, despite the impossibility of
reconstructing the real as a whole
