Assessment of Project Management Maturity: A Case of Ethiopian Construction Design and Supervision Works Corporation.
This study was conducted with the main objective of assessing the project management maturity level of the Ethiopian Construction Design and Supervision Works Corporation (ECWDSWC) and its sectorial divisions using the ten knowledge areas as defined by PMI (PMBOK). The study adopted the project management assessment tool designed by PMI solution. The study also implemented intensive interviews and secondary data review. The result of the study has shown that the project management maturity level of the corporation is 2.2. When breaking down the result to see the individual result, we can see the corporation performs relatively superior in areas of schedule management (2.35), cost management (2.34), quality management (2.33) and resources management (2.31). On the contrary, the corporation performs the least in areas of risk management (1.88), procurement, management (2.09), communication management (2.12), and stakeholder management (2.15). The study also analyses the maturity level of the four sectors and has found the following results. The WEDSWS scores 2.36, BUDSWC scores 2.07, TDSWC scores 2.31, and GGUDSWS 2.14. The study concluded that the corporation at the earliest maturity level of 2. By and large the overall project management maturity level is not adequate given its huge responsibility in the transformation of the country’s economic development. It is recommended that the corporation has to focus initially on developing the practice of the lowest ranked knowledge areas which are risk management, communication management, stakeholder management, and procurement management. The corporation has to develop strategies to improve its project management maturity; some of the actions to be addressed could be findings ways to improve its annual training programme and strengthening the capacity of the project, programme, and system management process division at the corporate, sector and center level.

The Implications of the Child Assistance Grants Programme on Refugee Children’s Poverty Status in Tanzania: A Case of Ulyankulu Tabora.
The study intended to investigate the implication of the child assistant grants programme on poor refugee children in Tanzania, taking Ulyankulu as the case. Despite the fact that refugee children at Ulyankulu resettlement area form one of the camps that received assistance grants from various national and international organizations, the provision of such grants has not shown any significance impact in the reduction of poverty for the past two decades. The study employed descriptive research design under qualitative and quantitative research, taking the target population of 2400 persons. 113 respondents were sampled using simple random and purposive sampling techniques. Questionnaires, interviews, documentary review and focus group discussion were used to collect data from Child Support Grants (CSG) programme beneficiaries, parents, immigration officers, head of schools, and the teachers and analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences and thematic analysis techniques. Findings indicated that there were CSG beneficiaries who were supported via respective grants programmes’ discharge, also parents and care givers were not involved to determine the kind of support needed by the refugee children. It was revealed that, head of settlement office had a very limited data on the kind of support given to the refugee. It was established that, there were confusion in the line of administration between the powers of the head of settlement and the powers of local administrators. In the light of these findings, this study concludes that, when the donors donate anything in the community of resettled refugees as part of humanitarian support; there should be openness and inclusion in the decision-making process.

Assessment on the Availability and Accessibility of Reproductive Health Information: A Case of the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) and Tumaini University Makumira (Tuma) Libraries.
This study assessed the availability and accessibility of reproductive health information (RHI) in Libraries, with particular reference to the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) and Tumaini University Makumira(TUMa) libraries in Arusha region, Tanzania. Specifically, the study was guided by the following objectives: were to: establish the demographic profile of students at IAA and TUMa; examine availability and accessibility of reproductive health information by students at the IAA, and (TUMa libraries ; find out the methods used to promote the availability and accessibility of reproductive health information, and identify the challenges encountered by IAA and TUMa students in accessing (RHI) and propose solutions to address the challenges faced by students in accessing (RHI) at their institutions libraries. This study employed cross-sectional, descriptive survey research design to collect data involving 130 respondents comprising of 114 Students (74 from IAA and 40 from TUMai,) who were Simple Randomly selected ,and 10 librarians, 4 Institutional Counselors and 2 Deans of Students were purposively selected. Data was collected using a standardized questionnaire with both close and open-ended questions, interviews, and observation. Data was analyzed (quantitatively and qualitatively), discussed and presented in figures, tables and text, using SPSS ver.20. Key findings on demographic profile of students on age at IAA and TUMa, showed that the majority 59 (57.3%) of the respondents were aged between 16 to 25 years; On availability and accessibility of RHI by students at IAA and TUMa, findings revealed that majority 54(52.4%) respondents reported scanty availability of materials related to RHI in their libraries ; On promotional methods used for availability and accessibility of RHI, 44(42.7%) mentioned Orientation tours and workshops and 31(30.1%), Current Awareness Services (CAS) and Selective dissemination of information (SDI). On challenges faced by students seeking RHI, 48(46.6%) mentioned Shortage of RHI library information sources and 28(27.2%) mentioned poor info search skills. Study recommends increase of library budget to acquire adequate and relevant information resources, including RHI resources and ICT; Integrate IL training into university curriculum as a cross cutting course buttressing all course programs in the university/institute, with the view to enable students attain search skills, as a lifelong learning experience.

Regulating Corporate Governance in Tanzania and Legal Challenges on Corporate Government in Practice.
The Corporate Governance has to be reported several times to have malpractices. The presence of conflict of interest, embezzlement, unprofessional control of the companies and misuse of powers become common features of the companies. These negative features led and still lead some of companies to fail in business due to mismanagement, poor short and long term plans, conflict of interest among the shareholders and directors which are results from mentioned features. Since the Corporate Governance is regulated by the laws the study focused to analyse those laws as to see the presence of any legal challenges which affect the Corporate Governance in Tanzania.
In order to achieve the goal the researcher guided by both general and specific objectives and the research questions which acted as borders as to make the researcher to focus on the subject matter. The study employed entirely the Empirical Literature Review and the doctrinal Research Approach where the researcher reviewed different documents including journals, articles, books, legal texts, paper presentations etc, as major source of data and the data obtained were analysed qualitatively.After reviewing and analysing data the study revealed legal challenges on Corporate Governance which affect negatively the effectiveness of the corporate governance practices. Those legal challenges including the presence of CEO duality, absence of directors independence, political interference in management of the companies, presence of large size board of directors etc. Most of these challenges caused the corporate laws being not adequate enough to address the revealed challenges. The study recommended inter alia the amendment of some corporate laws as to rectify the revealed challenges
Factors influencing Effectiveness Monitoring and Evaluation of Non-governmental organisation at Urban Region in Zanzibar.
The study investigates the factors influencing the effectiveness of the M & E system in Non-Governmental Organization sectors (NGOs) in Zanzibar. The study focused on three objectives including:(1) to assess the influence of human capacity on effectiveness of M&E in non-governmental organisation in Zanzibar urban region; (2) to examine the effect of financial capacity on the effectiveness of M&E in non�governmental organisation in Zanzibar urban region and (3) to examine the influence of stakeholder involvement on the effectiveness of M&E in non-governmental organisation in Zanzibar urban region. The study employed survey design in which a triangulation approach was used and data was collected using both the questionnaire and interview schedule. The population was 300 respondents from 100 NGOs available in the Urban region and 160 respondents who were involved in this study. The data were analysed using both quantitative and quantitative analysis and reveals that human capacity, financial capacity and stakeholder involvement play vital roles in influencing the effectiveness of M&E in NGOs in Zanzibar. The study recommends that it is worthwhile for NGOs to continue strengthening their human capital, financial resources and stakeholder engagement if their priority is to improve the effectiveness of M&E and better project performance.

Factors Impacting the Adoption of Sustainable Procurement in Tanzania: A Case Study of TANESCO Limited Kinondoni Office.
The study focused on the variables affecting Tanzania's adoption of sustainable procurement. It was conducted at Tanzania electric Supply co. Ltd - Kinondoni Office. The specific goals were to evaluate how the legal framework affected the implementation of sustainable procurement, how stakeholder competence affected the implementation of sustainable procurement, and how financial resources affected the implementation of sustainable procurement. A cross-section research design was used. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire. Simple random sampling was employed to obtain a sample of 167. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics through SPSS version 23. The finding relating to the first objective revealed that compliance level in procurement audit has a significant and positive effect on organization performance. Findings showed that the presence of a proper legal framework, the availability of competent stakeholders, and adequate financial resources increased the effectiveness of the adoption of sustainable procurement practices in Tanzanian public organizations. Correlation analysis indicated legal framework, stakeholder competence and financial resources as having significant effects on the implementation of sustainable procurement in Tanzania. The study concludes that legal framework, stakeholder competence and financial resources had major contributions to the implementation of sustainable procurement practices in Tanzania. It is recommended that to effectively implement sustainable procurement, TANESCO, policymakers, and other stakeholders should invest more in gaining procurement competence for their employees, develop an appropriate legal framework that serves as guidelines for practitioners, and allocate adequate financial resources.

Factors affecting girls’ academic performance in Zanzibar Public Secondary Schools: A Case of Mkoani District in Pemba-Zanzibar.
The research was conducted to analyze the factors that affect girls’ academic performance in public secondary schools of Mkoani District. The objectives were to assess the communities’ awareness on girls’ academic performance, to explore the factors that affect girls’ academically and to identify the strategies taken to improve their performance in public secondary schools. Descriptive survey and questionnaire were used. The questionnaire was administered to students, parents, subject teachers, head teachers from five secondary schools and DEO of Mkoani District. The sample of the study constituted 126 respondents who were selected by systematic sampling. They responded to a specially designed questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed descriptively using the IBM SPSS 20 vision. This study revealed that Girls’ academic performance is low due to the factors of love disturbance, home domestic activities, poverty, misuse of mobile phone, and long distance from home to school, family conflict, and luck of self- identification, poor family support, living with single parent, inferiority and diseases. Also low effort and truancy, lack of motivation, poor respect, teachers’ efforts and their attendance, geographical location of the school and child labor. The study recommends that the government and the community should consider educating girls and motivating them so as to perform better. Also provide hostels to secondary schools and create conducive environment for learning. The societies around public secondary schools should be educated and criticized on the negative attitudes they have that girls are just labor of doing domestic work and not for studying, The study also provides a note to teachers in public secondary schools to finish their syllabuses on time so as to help students perform better in their national examination. Last but not least, parents and other stakeholders of education should educate girls on proper use of mobile phone for effective learning and not otherwise. The research shall be used as a reference for overcoming the problem of poor academic performance of girls in Zanzibar public secondary schools.

Adoption of Farmers Research Network Project and Smallholders’ Grain Legumes Productivity in Singida Region, Tanzania.
The general objective of the study was to examine the effect of the adoption of the farmers research network project on diversified legume productivity among smallholder farmers in the Singida District. The specific objectives were to determine the effect of farmer’s participation in research on diversified grain legumes productivity in Singida District; to determine the effect of research process on diversified grain legumes productivity in Singida District and to determine the effect of collaborative network on enhancing grain legumes productivity in Singida District. The study was conducted in Singida region. Cross sectional research designs with a quantitative approach were employed. The population of the study included the beneficiaries of FRN project where a sample of 144 was selected. The data were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed through multiple regressions analysis. According to the findings, farmers’ participation in research has a positive and significant impact on legumes productivity. Moreover, findings indicated that collaborative network has a positive and significant impact on legumes productivity. Therefore, the study concludes that farmer’s participation in research process, the research process and collaborative network all have positive and significant effect on legumes productivity. The study recommends that more farmers should be involved in the research process, particularly the researches which seek to identify farmer’s problems and opportunities for increasing their productivity. The study also recommends that the government and other stakeholders such as NGOs should put more efforts and resources to carry out different researches on identifying farmer’s problems, identifying opportunities and new technology on farming strategies.

Impact of Outsourcing Operations and Maintenance in Cost of Quality.
The aim of this study is to explore the if the outsourcing operations and maintenance has the impact in cost of quality whereby it was conducted at Minara Tanzania offices and sites together with its power vendor African Power Machinery and Intelligence Security. The study adopted case study where 78 respondents represent the whole population whereby 32 represent technical team, 20 represent NOC, 6 represent procurement and 20 represent security. Sampling was done randomly using probability sampling technique. Online survey and questionnaire were used to collect data and analyzed by using excel. Data analysis was descriptive whereby graphs and statistical tables were the computation of frequencies and percentages which helps in interpretation and drawing conclusion.The study reveled that outsourcing technical team has a challenges of vendor staff not being trained, poor integrity issues, not qualified for engineering works, have no working tools and they have lack of motivation. Outsourcing NOC has no challenges at all and is very benefit to the organization. Outsourcing procurement has challenges of purchasing poor quality product and not supporting operation teams ties hence affect operation. Outsourcing security has challenges of qualification, training, motivations, and lack of awareness of the equipment’s they are taking care of. The recommended that technical team must meet minimum requirements and qualified, must be maintain good integrity and must have several trainings. Procurement must purchase quality spare and support the teams with working tools. Security team must be qualified, trained and given the knowledge of the customer assets and Minara sites must have security guards’shelters. By do doing so recommended, the researcher believes there will be quality deliverables hence reduce operations cost
The Role of Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation in project performance in Tanzania: A Case of TASAF in Bunda, Mara.
The study thought-out at examining the role of Participatory Monitoring & Evaluation in project performance in Tanzania, a case study of Tanzania Social Action Fund in Bunda, Mara. The growing demand for organizations and government to improve project outcome has increased the interest of Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation. The objective of this study was to analyze the role of Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation in project performance in Tanzania. A case of TASAF in Bunda, Mara and thus examined the PM&E knowledge gap that is viewed through the implementation of the project. The study employed a descriptive research design with a total of 75 respondents involved. The findings establishes that communities and stakeholders are fully engaged in the identification of the project support beneficiaries with 83% support from the respondents but their participation in planning were extensively limited with 72% of the respondents arguing that. Also, 72% of the respondents argued that the execution of the projects lacks participatory practices in monitoring and evaluation and in most cases the monitoring and evaluation is done by the LGA leaders and project officials. In addition, the study findings reveals a series of challenges facing the project in implementing effective PM&E activities and hence recommends the inclusive engagement of communities and stakeholders in Monitoring and Evaluation activities and providing PM&E related sensitization and training to project support staff and the community.
