The Role of Strategic Planning in Improving Public Sector Organizational Performance a Special reference to Tanesco Main Office Morogoro.
The study intended to investigate the contribution of strategic planning in improving the performance of public sector organizations in Tanzania. The study used Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) Morogoro Main Office as its case study. This study was guided by three objectives (i) to examine the design of strategic planning related to the public sector performance at TANESCO Morogoro Main Office; (ii) to examine strategic planning process related to the public sector performance at TANESCO Morogoro Main Office; (iii) to examine the top management support in implementing strategic plan for public sector performance at TANESCO Morogoro Main Office. The study employed case study as the research design to assess the role of strategic planning to organizational performance in Tanzania. The collection of data was done using questionnaires and documentary review. The study used a probability sampling strategy in which the simple randomly sampling was applicable where 100 respondents were selected from a total of 153 population. Study findings from the case study of TANESCO Main Office indicated that, Designs of strategic planning (β = 0.119, p = 0.000), Strategic planning process related to the public sector performance (β = 0.233, p = 0.000) and Top management support (β = -0.192, p = 0.000). Since the value of p in all item assessed in this research was p < 0.05, therefore design of strategic planning, Strategic planning as well as Top management support process have direct positive and significant relationship with the performance of TANESCO at Morogoro region. The recommendation should be greater effort on training especially in formulation and implementation of strategic plan to the public so that can adopt it and see it good achievement. As far as the study has not covered everything there might gaps, thus researcher suggests that similar study should be done in other public sectors in Tanzania in order to assess the same problem under study.

The effect of employee diversity on organizational performance: a case study National Audit Office of Tanzania (NAOT) – Morogoro.
This study sought to examine the effect of employee diversity on organizational performance: a case study National Audit Office of Tanzania (NAOT), Morogoro. The study was guided by three specific objectives; to determine the effect of employee‘s gender diversity on the organizational performance, to determine effect of employees education diversity on organization performance and to assess the effect of employees age diversity on the organization performance. The study adopted a positivist research philosophy, Quantitative approach and the case study design was used at the collection of the information at one specific point in times. 62 respondents were the sample size of the study. Sampling techniques used was stratified random sampling. The questionnaires were used to collect data and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics. The findings revealed that gender differences have a positive effect on work performance among work groups, also age differences on work conflicts between work groups, it has been proven that there is a positive effect associated with personality, status, experience and maturity among members of work groups. The state of education has a positive effect and cognitive conflicts between work groups are easily resolved. The diversity of the workforce based on age, gender and education level has been well investigated and confirms that there is a positive effect brought by the diversity of the workforce on team performance. The study recommends that the management of NAOT should make sure that studies are being done on regular basis so as to have update information regarding work team diversity and its impact of productivity so as to take possible measures when it is impacting negatively.

Kuchunguza Dhamira za lugha ya Utani katika Masoko ya kuuzia Samaki Kaskazini Pemba.
Mada ya utafiti huu imehusu: Kuchunguza dhamira za lugha za utani katika masoko ya kuuzia samaki Kaskazini Pemba. Kwa mnasaba wa mada hii, utafiti huu uliongozwa na malengo mahsusi mawili: (i) Kuchambua dhamira za lugha ya utani katika masoko ya kuuzia samaki Kaskazini Pemba na (ii) Kubainisha mbinu za kisanaa za lugha za utani katika masoko ya kuuzia samaki Kaskazini Pemba. Data za utafiti zimekusanywa kwa kutumia mbinu za ushuhudiaji, usaili na upitiaji wa nyaraka na kuchambuliwa kwa kutumia mkabala wa kimaelezo na kushadadiwa na nadharia za Mwitiko wa Msomaji na Simiotiki. Matokeo ya yanaonesha kwamba, kwa upande wa dhamira zilizojitokeza katika utani wa masoko ya kuuzia samaki kisiwani Pemba ni kujenga umoja na mshikamano, kuelimisha jamii, kuburudisha jamii, ustahamilivu katika kazi, ujasiri, ukombozi, kuoyonya jamii na nyenginezo. Aidha, mbinu za kisanaa zilizobainika ni matumizi ya tashibiha, taswira, takiriri, ishara, kejeli, misemo, methali na tashtiti. Mwishoni mwa utafiti kumetolewa mapendekezo ya kufanya utafiti zaidi katika eneo la kipera cha utani ambacho kipo katika utanzu wa sanaa za maonesho ambacho ni muhimu kwa kukuza na kuendeleza utamaduni katika jamii mbali mbali.

The Role of Human Resource Information System on Organisational Performance
This study was set to assess the role of the Human Resource Information System (HRIS) on organizational performance. The study comprises four objectives namely; to assess the role of HRIS in human resource recruitment; to assess the role of HRIS in human resource controlling; to assess the role of HRIS in human resources job monitoring; and to examine the relationship between the use of HRIS and 6from a sample size of 150 respondents. The questionnaire was used as a data collection instrument. The study used a quantitative approach to analyze data employing descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. Results of the findings indicate that HRIS has a significant role in human resource recruitment in terms of tracking candidate resumes and information, a guide to the hiring process, matching job openings to suitable candidates from the company's application pool, and scheduling interviews and examinations. Results also indicate that HRIS has a significant role in human resource control in terms of improving security, preparation of payroll, centralized database of employee demographics, and retention and succession planning. In addition, it was found that HRIS has a significant influence on human resource monitoring specifically in improving performance appraisals, and time and attendance tracking. The regression findings indicated that the use of HRIS has a significant effect on organizational performance with a 55% variation of the model. The study recommends that it may be beneficial to configure HRIS with a company's operations and rules to properly incorporate human resource controlling and monitoring. In this regard, HR professionals must analyze particular workflows and policies about things like payroll, training, and salary raises
Factors Affecting the Performance of Microfinance in Zanzibar
This study assessed the factors that affect microfinance institutions’ performance in Unguja urban, Zanzibar. The study specifically assessed the effect of employee training on microfinance institutions’ performance, the effect of capital lending on microfinance institutions’ performance, and the effect of risk management practice on microfinance institutions’ performance. Descriptive research design was adopted as a research design. The study involved a sample size of 176 respondents. Data were collected using questionnaire. Analysis of the findings revealed that, training needs, training content, training evaluation, and training implementation has influence on microfinance institutions’ performance. It was also found that, peer selection, peer monitoring, dynamic incentives, collateral substitutes, and repayment schedule influences individual and institutional performance. On the other hand, risk management practices which were found to influence microfinance institution performance include risk identification, risk measurement, and monitoring and management. An econometric analysis using Multiple Linear regression revealed that, employee training, capital lending, and risk management has a significant relationship with microfinance institutions’ performance. The factors explained 44% of the performance variation. The study recommends that, microfinance institutions should establish and implement a management information system and an internal risk assessment system that are appropriate for the type, scale, and complexity of their operations.

Factors affecting the Adoption of Drip Irrigation Technology: Empirical Evidence from Horticultural Production Project in Magharibi “A” District of Zanzibar.
This study sought to investigate what factors influence smallholder farmers in Magharibi "A" District in Zanzibar to use drip irrigation technology. The study specifically sought to examine the influence of perceived usefulness on the intention to use drip irrigation technology, to examine the influence of perceived ease of use on the intention to use drip irrigation technology in the study area, to pinpoint the influence of farmer's attitude on the intention to use drip irrigation, and discover the influence of social pressure on the intention to use drip irrigation. The study was carried out in 18 Shehia of Magharibi ―A‖ district, whereby 165 respondents were simple randomly selected for the study. Data were collected from smallholder farmers using questionnaires. Descriptive and multiple linear regression analysis were applied to analyze the collected data. The findings reveal that, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, farmer‘s attitudes and social influence has positive influence on the intention to use drip irrigation system among smallholder farmers in the area of the study. The study concludes that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, farmer‘s attitudes and social influence are antecedents of intention to use drip irrigation technology. Thus, the study recommends that more efforts be made to help smallholder farmers perceive drip irrigation technology as useful and simple to use, have positive attitudes toward using the technology, and take advantage of favorable social influence regarding its use.

The Role of Teachers’ Resource Centres on Improving Pupils’ Academic Performance in Primary Schools: A Case of Temeke Municipal Council.
This study investigated the role of TRCs on improving pupils‟ academic performance in primary schools in Temeke Municipal Council. The study was guided by four objectives, namely: to identify support provided by TRCs to enhance teachers‟ skills and knowledge in teaching practice; to assess availability and adequacy of teaching and learning resources provided by TRCs; to explore strategies established by TRCs to influence pupils‟ academic performance and; to identify problems facing TRCs and affecting their ability to support primary schools. The study employed mixed research approach. 76 respondents included sixty teachers, from six primary schools, two Ward Education officers (WEOs), six Head teachers, two TRCs Coordinators, four TRCs tutors and two TRCs librarians participated. For triangulation purpose, questionnaire, interview, observation and documentary review were used as basic instruments of data collection. Findings of the study indicated that TRCs played significant role in supporting teachers in improving pupils‟ academic performance of primary schools through provision of teaching and learning resources and teachers‟ professional development programmes. Further findings indicated TRCs faced several challenges such as inadequate financial and material resources, negative attitudes among teachers and low support. In order to enhance performance and contribution of TRCs, the study recommends that the government and stakeholders to actively support existing TRCs by supplying adequate financial and material resources. Furthermore, WEOs and head teachers have to encourage and prepare supportive environment for teachers to participate in TRCs activities.

Effect of Microfinance Institution Capability on Employee Savings Improvement: A Case of Selected SACCOS in Bukoba.
The research aimed to investigate how the capabilities of microfinance institutions influence the enhancement of employee savings. The study was carried out in chosen Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (Saccos) in Bukoba. In particular, it focused on assessing the impact of financial inclusion provided by microfinance institutions on the improvement of employee savings, identifying the criteria employees need to fulfil to access services from these institutions, and analyzing the influence of training provided by microfinance institutions on the enhancement of savings. A quantitative research approach was used and a survey research design was used. The study is guided by the pecking order Theory. Questionnaires were used to collect data from 100 respondents from a total of 147 Saccos beneficiaries. Descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis were used to analyze data. The study found that financial inclusion is significantly and positively related to employee savings improvement, the condition to be met by employees to access microfinance institution services was statistically and positively correlated to saving improvement. The study concludes that microfinance institutions have to strengthen financial service provision capacities to equip employees with savings improvement. It also concluded that financial training needs to be provided before the commencement of business to increase employee savings capability. Ultimately the study recommends that employees should request Saccos membership and borrow loans with favorable conditions to be invested in business to increase savings capability. There is a need for policy makers to ensure that guiding rules and regulations of microfinance institutions should be promising for loan beneficiaries to provide them with the opportunity to access microfinance financial services.

Effectiveness of School-Based Academic Camps in Improving Learner‘s Academic Performance in Public Secondary Schools in Karagwe District, Kagera, Tanzania.
The purpose of the study was to assess effectiveness of school-based academic camps in improving learner‘s academic performance in public secondary schools in Karagwe district, Kagera, Tanzania. The study used a mixed methods research approach supported with convergent parallel research design. The study used convenience, stratified random and purposive sampling techniques to select the sample size of 201 (1 DSEO, 10 WEOs, 10 HoSs, 10 parents, 100 students and 80 teachers). Data collection methods were questionnaires and interviews. Quantitative data were coded, analyzed and interpreted in tabular forms while qualitative data were thematically analysed. Findings show that, the ways used in school-based academic camps to promote student‘s performance include, provision of meals and accommodation to students, and provision of mentorship about examinations. In regard to the effectiveness of the ways used in school-based academic camps to promote student‘s performance, findings have shown that, they promote students‘ attendance and learning, provide self-motivation to students. On stakeholders‘ perceptions on the ways used in school-based academic camps in improving students‘ performance, findings have indicated that, stakeholders perceive that, school-based camps facilitate the completion of subjects‘ topics and improve communication skills among students. Based on the findings, it is recommended that, the government and schools should not be left alone to facilitate these school-based academic camps.

Effects of Domestic Violence on Children’s Development: A Case of Liwale Town Ward in Liwale District, Lindi Region.
The study based focused on effects of domestic violence on children‘s development: a case of Liwale Town Ward in Liwale District, Tanzania. Specifically the study determined the causes of domestic violence, assessed the effects of domestic violence on children‘s development and determined the current strategies of reducing domestic violence. The researcher used mixed approach which included quantitative and quantitative approaches and adopted a case study design. The sample size was obtained through simple random sampling and purposive sampling. A sample of 110 respondents used. Data were collected through questionnaire survey, semi-structured interviews and focused group discussion. Qualitative data were coded and transcribed and subsequently analyzed through content analysis, with regard to quantitative data: descriptive analysis was done including index scale measurement. The findings revealed that overdrinking, poverty, lack of education and female partner refusal to have sex with male partner were some of the causes of domestic violence. It was also found children exposed to Domestic Violence were affected emotionally, psychologically and academically. The study established that there were strategies to curb domestic violence for example, provision of education about causes and effects of DV and establishment of by-laws in villages. The study concluded that low level of education is very common to many societies in Tanzania; hence ignorance can be the root cause of other sorts of violence. It was concluded that children born to irresponsible parents end up being vulnerable and marginalized. Finally the study recommends that the presence of by-laws makes villagers obey them because violating them is to invite sanctions and pain to themselves.
