    Challenges facing Effective Project Management in Construction Sites in Ilala District, Dar es Salaam

    The study aimed at addressing the challenges facing effective project management in Ilala district, Dar es Salaam. The study was guided by four specific objectives, to establish whether technology plays a major role in effective project management in construction projects, secondly to determine whether limited financial resources is one of the most prominent hindrance in construction sites in the district; Third specific objective was to examine whether worker motivation is a factor in determining effective project management in the construction sites within the district, and lastly to investigate if communication is a challenge in effective project management in construction sites within the district. The researcher used a case study design. A sample of 30 respondents using qualitative and quantitative research approach whilst applying purposive sampling was applied. The sample size embodied three groups of respondents, thus project managers, project workers and community shareholders. Technology thus modern tools, modern machines, and globalized approached towards execution in these sites were proven central to their general advancement. Transparency when dealing with finances to avoid any bureaucratic and/or corrupt tendencies; providing other worker incentives apart from salary, as well as worker recognition, and creating a multifaceted communication structure, effectively hearing team players views and so forth are among the recommendations suggested towards the curbing of these project challenges.     The factors influencing congestion among Seaports in Tanzania. Analysis of Dar es salaam Port

    This study aimed at assessing the factors influencing congestion among seaports Tanzania, analysis ofDar es Salaam port. Specific objectives were to examine the influence of documentation processes in seaport congestion, to examine the influence of working equipmentson seaport congestion and to examine the influence of Information Communication Technology on congestion in Dar esSalaam port. The study used exploratory and descriptive research designs and involved the use of documentary review, questionnaires and interviews as the main tools for data collection.It revealed that factors such as low number of equipment, aged equipment, lack of equipment’s efficiency, long port and customs procedures, lack usage of ICT, and bureaucracy directly influencing seaport congestion at Dar es Salaam Port. It was also found that other associated factors such as lack of skilled manpower, great number of port users, poor management plan, poor policy implementation, poor infrastructure, and poor performance of railway are contributing factors leading to Dar es Salaam seaport congestion.Based on these findings the study also made some recommendations with the aim of reducing congestion at Dar es Salaam port which in turn will inspire stakeholders to apply methods that will reduce congestion and increase port efficiency.     The role of tourism sector in promoting community development: evidence from Arusha region

    This study sought to examine the role of tourism sector on promoting community development in Arusha in Tanzania. The study was guided by three specific objectives; To determine the effect of economic growth due to tourism on community development at Arusha , To assess the effect of employment creation due to tourism on community development at Arusha , To examine the effect of Infrastructure development due to tourism on community development at Arusha . Positivist philosophy was employed in this study. For research approach a quantitative was used. Explanatory research design was used. A sample of 384 respondents were drawn from using random sampling from 990 population. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data. Descriptive statistics, correlation and multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze data. The study found that all tourism independent variables; economic growth, employment creation and infrastructure development were positive and statistical significantly related to the dependent variable community development. Based on the findings this study recommends that there should be foster active participation and involvement of local communities in tourism-related decision-making processes. Secondly Invest in vocational training and skill development programs tailored to the needs of the tourism industry. Equip local residents with the skills required for various tourism-related roles, including hospitality, guiding, and cultural interpretation and lastly investment in infrastructure improvements, such as roads, transportation networks, and sanitation facilities, to enhance the accessibility and safety of tourist destinations while improving the quality of life for local residents.     Impact of Procurement Procedures on Organizational Performance in Kilimanjaro

    This study aimed to assess the impact of procurement procedures on organizational performance, with special focus to Kilimanjaro International Leather Industries Company Limited and Moshi Leather Industry Company.The specific objectives focused on determining the effects of the tendering process, supplier selection procedures, and contract management. Drawing on the Institutional Theory and Principal-Agency Theory within a post-positivist philosophical approach, this research employed a quantitative methodology to collect and analyse data. The study's population consisted of 137 personnel, selected through purposive sampling. Data was gathered using self-administered questionnaires, supplemented by secondary data obtained from research papers, journals, company policies, and records. Using descriptive and inferential statistics offered by SPSS version 27, the data were quantitatively analysed. The study unveiled significant positive correlations between the tendering process, contract management, supplier selection, and organizational performance. Furthermore, it identified a significant positive correlation between contract management and organizational performance. Also, the study unveiled a significant positive correlation between the supplier selection, and organizational performance. As a result, this study recommends that organizations prioritize the enhancement of professionalism and transparency in their procurement practices. Additionally, future research endeavours should consider conducting comparative analyses of various organizational procurement strategies and investigating the effects of regulatory changes to uncover best practices and adaptability in diverse business environments.     This study aims to assess the influence of Financial Performance on Social Benefit Service Delivery, specifically assess the prospects and challenges for the organization’s financial system operation in relation to social protection delivery system, determine financial performance variables that lead to inefficiencies in social security fund and to examine the potential prospects, on how NSSF may improve its financial performance for social services delivery. The study used 100 respondents selected using Stratified sampling, both secondary and primary data were utilized. Comparative analysis was done indicating changes in various financial variables reflecting financial performance and obligations of the organization to deliver to its stakeholders. Some of the key indicators for example are seen in section 4.13 for the year 2012/13 to 2017/18. Major challenges facing the NSSF were observed to be categorized into 12 groups as the respond from the interviewees. Five major challenges were on how NSSF tries to create value for its stakeholders were taxation charged on funds investment income, limited investment revenue, limitation to foreign investment by NSSF, untimely payment of contribution and defaulters on rent and loans. Furthermore, NSSF appears to be controlled by the power of Government policies and the organization while it has to be more influenced by the voices and power from its member as members are the one to contribute to the value of the organization not only employees and administration decisions. There is a need for a harmonized policy and regulation of all social security funds in Tanzania. The researcher recommends that NSSF should be more creative in solving community-based problems not to look on pay off investment only for their own profit and leave the members unsatisfied and therefore there should be a balanced approach with more coverage of the Tanzania population.     The Audit Committee Characteristics and Performance of SACCOS in Tanzania

    This study investigated on the influence of the Audit Committee (AC) characteristics on the performance of SACCOS in Tanzania, using the case of six SACCOS in Mbeya City Council. Specifically, the study explored the educational background, level, independence, size, and working experience as attributes of the performance of SACCOS in Mbeya City Council. The study employed an exploratory research design as the study was qualitative. Fifteen (15) respondents were sampled and involved in the interview regarding primary data collection. The collected data were analysed through thematic data analysis. The findings revealed that members of AC with educational backgrounds in finance or accounting contributed to the organization's better performance. Secondly, the Audit Committee independent of the SACCOS promoted the profitability of SACCOS.Thirdly, well-experienced Audit Committee members resulted in the performance of SACCOS as they saved time in auditing various transactions and undertakings of the SACCOS they worked with. The study suggests that decision-makers should formulate the policies that prioritize the AC activities within the SACCOSAlso,the SACCOS should appoint the AC members with required qualifications.     Stakeholders Participation in Water Resources Projects Performance in South Unguja District, Zanzibar

    The study aimed to investigate the influence of stakeholder participation in water resources project performance in South Unguja District, Zanzibar. This was done through the examination of the levels of stakeholders' participation in water-related project management; ways in which they participate and impediments experienced. The study used the ladder of citizen participation theory as guidance. Furthermore, a descriptive qualitative cum quantitative research approach was used as a framework to analyse the study. Data collection involved 175 respondents using a set of questionnaires analysed using IBM SPSS version 24 to establish simple frequencies and percentages while cross-tabulation tables were used for comparing opinions. Study findings reveal that stakeholders involved in the project area were the local community, three NGOs of Jamabeco, ZOP and Rotary and the government-funded organization called ZAWA. Levels of participation are very limited and local communities do not have a clear sense of project ownership as they operate in the peripheral areas. Secondly, stakeholders' contribution to the performance of water project development is also limited because of the impeding challenges conceived ranging from technical and managerial. Thirdly, Corruption, budgetary constraints, obsolete infrastructures and low sensitization were the limiting factors behind water projects' performance. To improve the water sector performance through stakeholder participation the study suggests for deliberate removal of the highlighted impediments.     An Assessment of the Education Stakeholders’ Perceptions on the Implementation of Alternative Assessment in Secondary Schools in Iringa, Tanzania

    This study aimed to assess education stakeholders‟ perceptions of the implementation of Alternative Assessment in Tanzania. The study was guided by five (5) specific objectives: to identify types of assessment methods used by secondary school teachers; to explore secondary school teachers‟ perceptions of Assessment (AA) practices; to determine AA procedures practiced by teachers in secondary schools; to investigate challenges facing teachers‟ implementation of AA; and to find out ways to improve teachers‟ implementation of . The study employed a mixed research approach that utilized mixed method research design. The study sample comprised 222 respondents including 150 teachers, 10 heads of school, 50 students, one (1) District Education Officer (DEO), one (1) Regional Education Officer (REO), and 10 Academic masters/mistresses. The participants were selected using simple random and purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using interviews, observation, questionnaires, and review. The findings revealed that a significant number of teachers (80%) had a narrow scope in the understanding of the concept of AA, the majority of teachers (above 90%) were using traditional assessment methods and teachers were constrained with different challenges such as lack of awareness and skills on how to implement AA procedures, shortage of resources, insufficient time, overcrowded classes and overloaded syllabus. The study concluded that teachers were constrained by a lack of awareness and skills on how to implement AA. Therefore, it is recommended that the government should ensure that, teachers become trained so as to broaden and deepen their knowledge about AA methods and underlying theories.     The Influence of MFI Finance Services on Profitability of Agriculture SMEs in Mbeya City.

    This study focused on assessing the influence of MFIs' financial services on the profitability of SMEs dealing with Agribusiness and agriculture in Mbeya City and their financial and non-financial services on the profitability of Agriculture SMEs in Mbeya City. The study examined whether MFIs' financial services, such as microcredit, insurance, saving, and training, influence the profitability of SMEs in the Agriculture sector. The research sample was selected through simple random sampling, and cross-sectional data was collected through survey questionnaires distributed to 184 respondents; however, 151 questionnaires were correctly filled. Study analysis was done through descriptive and inferential statistics using a multiple linear regression model. The study discovered that microcredit, insurance, saving, and training services positively and significantly influenced the performance of Agriculture SMEs in Mbeya City. This study significantly contributes to the literature on the relationship between microfinance institution (MFI) products and the growth of agriculture SMEs. Government policies enabling agribusinesses to access funds under favorable conditions and rates are crucial for fostering business growth. Moreover, this study solidifies the theory of financial intermediation by highlighting the pivotal role of MFIs in providing services that contribute to the performance, profitability, and growth of agriculture SMEs.     Assessment of Challenges Facing Police Gender Desks in Addressing the Adolescent Pregnancy in Geita Region, Tanzania.

    This study sought to assess of challenges facing police gender desks in addressing the adolescent pregnancy in Geita region. The study relies on both interpretivism philosophy and positivism, The researcher used an interpretive approach and employed a descriptive case study design. The target population was young people from the Geita region of 229,099 respondents; therefore, 399 respondents were the study's sample size. The sampling techniques used were probability sampling methods and non-probability sampling methods. The questionnaire method and interview method were used to collect data. The collected data were analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics. The findings revealed that Poverty, stigma and discrimination are among the challenges that pregnant girls face at a young age. Survivors of childhood pregnancies were ostracized, shamed, stigmatized and stigmatized by their communities once it was known that they were pregnant. Forced sex against young girls is the main cause of pregnancy. The media has not been used effectively in the police gender desk in disseminating information about child pregnancies and other gender-based violence. The results have identified that in the initial stages of acts of sexual violence there is no courage to report sexual violence. The study recommends that In order to reduce the wave of increase in childhood pregnancies in the society, there is a need for the police force in coordination with the central government, informants and stakeholders of gender issues to evaluate an ambitious and effective plan to determine the problems of the gender desk in the police force. Gender desks deal with problems related to teenage pregnancy and other incidents related to gender-based violence. The results of the study indicated that there is a high rate of teenage pregnancies and an increase in the number of police gender desks dedicated to dealing with the problem of teenage pregnancies. So it is good for the government to increase efforts to deal with these problems
