    LMS-DRIVEN HOTS READING MODEL FOR HIGHER EDUCATION ENHANCEMENT

    This research aims to implement the Learning Management System of the Learning Process for developing a reading instruction model based on HOTS. Conducted the research in a private university in Kuningan, West Java, Indonesia. At present, one of the private tertiary institutions in Kuningan during COVID-19 is conducting lectures in a virtual class using Moodle in the learning process with the e-class, a part of the LMS. With the implementation of a virtual class in the form of Moodle used by the students of a private university in Kuningan, it is hoped that it can improve the reading instruction model based on higher-order thinking skills. This research is a kind of research and development or Research and Development (R&D) to produce products and test the feasibility of products, where the products developed are in the form of a reading instruction model based on HOTS using the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development and Implementation, Evaluation). The results are very effective in using this model, as seen from the test results obtained by students in the class

    DEVELOPMENT OF VIDEO-BASED DIGITAL CONTENT LEARNING FOR TEACHING UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

    Nowadays, technological developments are really very fast so it requires students to be able to follow them. Like what was done during a pandemic, learning was done online so lecturers had to prepare the material properly by using internet facilities for teaching. Unfortunately, learning is still considered to have many problems during the pandemic, both in terms of material and media used, resulting in a learning loss. This study highlights the development of video-based digital content learning which are integrated into learning. The method used in this study was research and development. The steps to develop the media were applied Four-D model by Thiagarajan and Semmel. The video-based digital content learning presents interactive learning in the form of videos integrated with learning management system, ELITA. The media has been tested on 25 students at Universitas Tidar during the covid-19 pandemic and showed good acceptance. The results of this study indicate that video-based digital content is feasible and effective to be used in supporting student motivation and learning outcomes. This implies that digital content learning is of value to be used and applied in online learning for teaching university students

    ENHANCING ESP TEACHING FOR COMPUTER AND NETWORK ENGINEERING STUDENTS THROUGH MULTIMEDIA

    This article discusses the application of short videos and pictures in teaching ESP procedure texts in computer and network engineering majors. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study design to explore the integration of video and pictures in ESP teaching, the challenges teachers face in integrating videos and pictures in ESP teaching, and how teachers overcome these challenges. The participants of this study consisted of one English teacher in computer and network engineering class who was selected by purposive sampling. The research was conducted at SMK Mahardika Malang and involved English teachers from the computer and network engineering department. Data collection methods included observation and interviews with teachers, focusing on the procedures for integrating short videos and pictures, the challenges faced, and solutions to overcome these challenges. The findings reveal that there are several activities in the classroom, namely teacher activities, student activities, and the learning and teaching process. Teachers face three challenges. The first is time constraints. To overcome this challenge, teachers must use pictures and short videos wisely and adjust them to the time available in the lesson plan. The second is the mismatch of learning material sources. The solution to this challenge is to use effective multimedia such as the Internet and YouTube. The third is students' low motivation to learn English and write procedural texts. The solution to this challenge is for teachers to approach students emotionally, consult with their parents, and provide project-based learning strategies using English. This research provides valuable insights for ESP education, emphasizing the importance of adapting content to industry needs, addressing motivation issues, and effectively using multimedia elements

    SENTIMENT ANALYSIS ON STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVE TOWARD ENGLISH ONLINE LEARNING USING WORD FREQUENCY ANALYSIS

    The post-pandemic situation has triggered a seismic shift in the education landscape, forcing educational institutions worldwide to transition to online learning platforms. Understanding students' perspectives towards this abrupt transformation is crucial for improving the quality of online education. This study employs sentiment analysis techniques, specifically Word Frequency Analysis, to gain insights into students' sentiments and opinions concerning online learning. Using a dataset of student responses collected through surveys and open-ended questions, the researchers conducted a comprehensive analysis of the words and phrases frequently used by students when describing their experiences with online learning. Through the systematic identification of prominent words and their frequencies, this research provides a valuable overview of the prevailing sentiments, concerns, and areas of satisfaction among students. The findings reveal a nuanced picture of students' attitudes. While positive sentiments such as “nyaman”, “baik”, and “responsif" are prevalent, there are also concerns and challenges highlighted, including 'isolation,' 'technical issues,' and 'communication difficulties.' Furthermore, the analysis uncovers variations in sentiment based on demographic factors, course types, and prior experience with online education. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of students' sentiments towards online learning, offering educators and policymakers valuable insights for enhancing the online learning experience. The Word Frequency Analysis methodology employed in this study proves to be a powerful tool for efficiently distilling the sentiments expressed in large datasets of qualitative responses, providing a foundation for further qualitative and quantitative investigations in the field of online education.

    ENHANCING PRESENTATION ABILITIES IN STUDENTS VIA INFOGRAPHICS WITHIN THE EMANCIPATED CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK

     Abstract: Presentation is a part of applying speaking skill. One of the media which be used in presentation activities is infographics. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using infographics on students' ability in presentation skill. This research was quantitative and used the quasi-experimental design. The data was taken from the pre-test and the post-test of presentation by applying project-based learning. It was conducted in class XI MA Roudlotul Muttaqin, Demak with a total of 50 students. There were two classes involved in this study, they were the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class received the treatment in the form of infographics, while the control class was not. In this study, the researchers collected data in three steps, they were the tryout for the non-sample class, the pre-test, and the post-test.  The average tryout in the non-sample class was 82.75. The average pre-test in the experimental class was 79.75, while the average pre-test in the control class was 78.00. The average post-test in the experimental class was 91.5, while the average post-test in the control group was 85.25. The results of the T-test data value Sig. (2 tailed) was lower than 0.05, in the pre-test and the post-test results. It can be concluded H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected, showing the use of infographic media was effective to improve students' presentation skills.

    DEVELOPING A MEDIA BOOK CREATOR FOR INTENSIVE READING BASED ON LOCAL WISDOM FOR ENGLISH STUDY PROGRAM STUDENTS

    Rapid advancements in science and technology over the past decade have greatly influenced the development of teaching materials. This accelerated progress has provided significant support to educators in enhancing the quality of both online and offline learning experiences. This study aims to develop a local wisdom-based book creator media while assessing its validity, effectiveness, and innovativeness.The research methodology employed a research and development (R&D) approach, specifically following the procedure outlined by Borg and Gall, which consists of 10 stages. However, this study focused on 8 key stages within the development process. The findings of this research indicate that the local wisdom-based book creator media demonstrate a high level of feasibility. A questionnaire was employed as the primary data collection technique to evaluate the feasibility of the media book creator. Expert assessments were obtained from media experts, material experts, and IT experts, while feedback from lecturers and students also contributed to the evaluation process. The results show that media experts evaluated it at 90%, material experts at 93%, IT experts at 95%, and student responses indicated an 85% feasibility rating, collectively suggesting the learning media to be "highly feasible" for implementation. Educators can leverage this medium to provide students with a more interactive and culturally relevant learning experience, fostering a deeper connection between academic content and their local contexts.

    THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A CANVA-BASED E-PORTFOLIO: ITS IMPACT ON ACHIEVEMENT, SELF-EFFICACY, AND ANXIETY IN ESP-WRITING INSTRUCTION

    English for Specific Purposes (ESP) learners derive significant advantages from a writing method that focuses on the process rather than just the end result. This need is emphasized by the fact that teachers often do not prioritize the optimization of this technique while teaching ESP writing workshops. This approach focuses on the different stages of text creation and is used in educational settings to give students clear guidance. It helps them go through a genuine writing process, boosts their confidence, reduces anxiety, and includes activities that support writing, such as choosing the right media. This study examines the influence of integrating Canva and e-portfolio on the writing proficiency of Agriculture students in an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) setting. The study also investigates the impact of this integration on students' self-efficacy and anxiety levels during the learning process. This is done through a mixed-method approach that incorporates before and post-tests, writing assignments, and post-treatment questionnaires. The implementation of Canva-based E-portfolios in teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has yielded encouraging outcomes, as seen by improved posttest scores in both the control and experimental groups. Notably, the experimental group demonstrated a significant enhancement, indicating the potential advantages of broader utilization. The intervention demonstrates a positive impact on students' self-efficacy and reduces their anxiety levels, suggesting its effectiveness in ESP classrooms.     INVESTIGATING THE USE AND SEMANTIC INTERPRETATION OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE IN EFL STUDENTS’ LITERARY WORK

    This study aims to investigate the types of figurative language written in the students’ literary work, to identify the dominant of figurative language written in the students’ literary work, and to interpret the meaning of figurative language written in the student’s literary work. This is descriptive qualitative research. The scenario of taking the data were as follow; first, researcher took the data from the literary classroom. Second, researcher identify figurative language taken from student’s literary work. Third, interpreting the data based on the theory of figurative language written by Fatimah, Amri, and Rusan, (2020) and the theory of meaning developed by Umagandhi and Vinothini, (2017). Research findings stated there were six types of figurative language written by students in their literary works. Then, the dominant of figurative language written by students was hyperbole figurative and personification. Further, there were four types of semantics meaning written by students, such as; connotative, affective, reflected, and associative. Affective semantic meaning was the dominant meaning written in the students’ literary work. Affective meaning was found in the Personification figurative language. Further, Figurative languages and their semantics meaning were meaningful for learning and empowering students’ linguistics’ competences. Particularly it is in semantics discussion.

    STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION AND ATTITUDE ON ‘CODE HUNTING’ FOR OUTDOOR GRAMMAR LEARNING

    For far too long, grammar lesson has been a concern amongst English teachers and a challenging journey for EFL learners. The conventional grammar learning process tended to be considered boring and complicated by students due to the monotonous teaching method used by teachers which leads to the students’ disengagement. Therefore, the researchers tried to employ a new grammar teaching strategy called ‘Code Hunting’. This survey research aimed to investigate the students’ perspectives towards the use of Code Hunting in the grammar learning process. In this research, the researchers used a quantitative method with descriptive quantitative as the research design. The participants were 60 11th-grade students in one of the senior high schools in Batu, East Java. The findings of this research showed that most students strongly agreed that grammar learning through Code Hunting was easier to understand, far more engaging, and increased their willingness to learn grammar. This research implies that Code Hunting is an effective tool to teach grammar. Thus, it is recommended for English teachers to use Code Hunting and could be offered as a strategy to create an interesting learning experience, especially in the grammar learning process. Furthermore, it is suggested for future researchers to explore more of the students’ perspectives using interview session in order to collect more in-depth information on the impact of Code Hunting.

    EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PORPE METHOD IN ENHANCING READING COMPREHENSION: A STUDY OF SELF_ESTEEM AS A MODERATING FAKTOR

    This study explores the effect of using PORPE method and students’ self-esteem toward reading comprehension achievement. The objectives of the research are to find out whether: (1)PORPE method produces higher achievement in reading comprehension on junior high schools students; (2) There is an interaction between PORPE method and students’ self-esteem toward students’ reading comprehension. The study categorized as an experimental research. The population of the research was the eighth grade students in the academic years 2023/2024. The sample of this research was taken by using cluster random sampling. The sample was 54 students with 27 students of experimental class taught by using PORPE method and 27 students of control class taught using conventional method by teacher. The data collection was done by giving self-esteem questionnaire and reading comprehension test (pre and post test) after five meetings of treatments.  The data analysis was done by applying T-test and Two ways ANOVA to test the hypothesis. The findings of this research are (1) The use of PORPE method produces higher achievement in reading comprehension on junior high school students; (2) There is no interaction between PORPE method and students’ self-esteem toward students’ reading comprehension
