    Innovation Implementation: The Role of Technology Diffusion Agencies

    A great deal of ‘innovation failure’ can be attributed to ineffective implementation, rather than failure of the innovation itself. External agencies such as technology diffusion agencies (TDAs) have been created to assist organisations to implement innovation successfully, but there has been little empirical research investigating their roles. This paper presents a longitudinal case study of failed innovation implementation, and highlights in particular the role that technology diffusion agencies can play to prevent such failure in future cases.     Some experts predict RFID will be the next big technology to revolutionize supply chain management. The RFID mandates by the Department of Defense (DOD), Federal Drug Administration (FDA), and retail companies have required organizations to implement RFID technology. Other companies are evaluating the potential costs and benefits of such adoption. In order to establish benchmark on RFID adoption, this study surveyed readers of Paperboard Packaging magazine and members of the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) to see if they are implementing RFID technology and challenges they may face. The results indicate about 52% of responding companies are not currently considering RFID technology because of the cost concerns. Companies that are implementing or considering RFID are doing it because of their customer requirements although they are concerned about the cost of RFID tags and cost of implementation.     A supply chain is a network of facilities and distribution channels that encompasses the procurement of materials, production, assembly and delivery of product or service to the customer. The management of the supply chain and the roles of various actors involved differ from industry to industry and company to company. As a result Supply Chain Management (SCM) has become a vital issue for manufacturers, professionals and researchers. It is felt that to manage the supply chain effectively entire structure of supply chain must be understood properly. This paper attempts to provide the reader a complete picture of supply chain management through a systematic literature review. It presents a state of art on SCM by systematically arranging main activities in supply chain.     An Empirical Study on Logistics Service Providers’ Intention to Adopt Green Innovations

    This study examines six factors that will influence the intention to adopt green innovations for logistics service providers. The determinant factors include technological, organizational and environmental dimensions. The data came from the questionnaire survey on logistics companies in Taiwan, and 162 samples were analyzed. According to the survey results, all the factors have positive influences on the intention to adopt green practices. Explicitness and accumulation of green practices, organizational encouragement, quality of human resources, environmental uncertainty and governmental supports exhibit significant influences on the willingness to adopt green practices.This study examines six factors that will influence the intention to adopt green innovations for logistics service providers.     "Low -Technology”: A Forgotten Sector in Innovation Policy

    Abstract In the discussions on research and technology policy focuses mainly on the dynamic innovation of new technologies. Long term growth, competitive advantages on the world market and employment effects are primarily perceived in new high-tech products. According to this perspective the question as to the future of industrial sectors that produce mature and conventional standard products is not raised at all. Such industrial sectors are, following well-known OECD categories, regarded as "low-tech". However, there are a number of convincing examples of sectors and companies that have been successfully inno-vating low tech products in “high-tech countries” of the European Union.The paper focuses on low-tech companies analysing their innovative capabilities and developmental perspectives.     Geostrategy of Economic Spaces: Innovation and Change in Latin America Territorial Administration

    In this essay we analyze the geostrategy of economic spaces in the sphere of new links in the global economy, placing Latin America in the scenario of the new world order. The geostrategic dimension of economic spaces includes spatial redefinitions as a result of new global strategies of the major transnational corporations. This is, therefore, of a space-time configuration of scenarios in the articulation between the importance of the place, action site, and expression of power. Territorial administration adopts new outlines, sharing and is linked to the logistics of market interests. In the new configuration of interests of global economics, the spatial barriers are set aside and global places are created, representing fragmentations of territorialized space. Territorialization of global productive spaces represents deterritorialization of national spaces. Forms of power and influence of power radiate from them in all directions. Power and administration of territory in the large complex economic and political organisms – regional blocks – confront each member’s historic reality, the inequalities of the rates of development, culture and social levels. These realities are hard to harmonize and eventually categorize hegemonic centers of power and a national fringe of dependence. Global geostrategy, therefore, takes over, redefines and reorders productive circulation spaces, establishing new relations of power and administration of territories. Historically, Latin America continued to depend heavily on the economic order established by the colonizing countries and this dependence gradually shifted to the world financial supremacies.     Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Deployment – Can Canada Capitalize on Experience?

    This paper presents an overview of Canada’s experience with carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) initiatives. While discussing various options available, the paper examines the success Canada has had with carbon capture and storage and why it is advantageous for Canada to make it part of their environmental sustainability effort. The paper also discusses the barriers and challenges in carbon capture and storage deployment. The paper ends with some speculation about how the technology can be adopted quickly if some organizations were more proactively involved with it. Carbon capture and storage has a potential to change how we reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the future. However, it has a long way to go as organizations start adopting it and unanswered questions get answered in the process.     Motivation Strategies for Knowledge Workers: Evidences and Challenges

    Many studies have been performed previously to investigate different theories of motivation and, more specifically, how to motivate technical professionals. Through a questionnaire survey carried out on 376 development engineers, identified as “knowledge workers” by managers in their firms, this study identifies what methods are used in industry to motivate these individuals, what works and what does not. While many aspects of standard incentives and reward systems used to motivate technical professionals in general are also motivating for technical visionaries, these results indicate that they are motivated by additional factors not generally discussed in the literature.Many studies have been performed previously to investigate different theories of motivation and, more specifically, how to motivate technical professionals.     A Conceptual Framework for the Alignment of Innovation and Technology

    Historically, business institutions base their growth strategies on their research and development (R&D) function. This function is fairly established and sets out to acquire new knowledge in a systematic process of research in order to produce or improve products, services or processes. In fact, innovation and research are two of the main thrusts for economic growth. Research is planned, assessed, managed and rewarded, innovation is not. However, without acknowledging and aiding the growing importance of innovation for growth in a rapidly more chaotic environment, this function is set for failure. Where research is valued, innovation is feared as radical and disruptive. Furthermore, there is little evidence in the current body literature to link them and to show how they, jointly, can add more value than separately. They remain independent entities in separate clusters of the economy. The convergence factor in research and innovation is technology (knowledge not machines). The paper explores the convergence of innovation and research from a previous paper, focusing on the development of a conceptual model in terms of the technology (or knowledge) system required for the accomplishment of this convergence. In this sense, technology is defined as knowledge, tacit or explicit, in human, document or electronic format. The proposed convergence requires the use of knowledge systems to drive the innovation and research. The contribution of the paper lies in the knowledge developmental aspects of research and innovation convergence. An existing model to achieve for knowledge systems development will be reviewed and a modified version presented after careful consideration of the body literature on knowledge and innovation systems.     Three Steps Methodology to Measure an Individual’s Personal Competences for Entrepreneurship Towards a “Particular” Business Idea.

    The use of certain diagnostic tools serving for the evaluation of a person’s suitability for entrepreneurship with regard to his/her competences is one of the domains that our organization has been paying attention over the last three years. Our approach tackles entrepreneurs’ competences from three different points of view: Their attitude, explained as “Desire to make or produce something”, their aptitude, explained as “Ability, knowledge or skill to make or produce something” and their capacity, explained as “to be able to make or produce something”. Different self-assessment and measurement tools are provided to evaluate each of the above mentioned variables, as a result of what, a report based on the combination of the attitude, aptitude and capacity of the particular entrepreneur towards the particular business idea proposed is produced. This report will orientate the entrepreneur as follows: If satisfactory, the entrepreneur is ready to set up the particular business idea as planned, if not satisfactory either, the business idea is not good or innovative enough to be a successful business as initially planned or the personal skills and capacities of the entrepreneur are not yet sufficient to face all the casualties and hazardous that to set up a business encompass
