The Technology Transfer Process in Textile Industry
This article has the objective to describe and characterize the textile sector\u27s technology transfer process, under the light of the core theoretical concepts, and the sector\u27s dynamics and technological characterization. In addition to the technology transfer process, the article shows the main bottlenecks observed in the process, and possible actions for the involved actors to seek a better execution to the technologic transfer, thus reducing the acquired technology under-utilization, as well as the delay on its full use.This article has the objective to describe and characterize the textile sector\u27s technology transfer process, under the light of the core theoretical concepts, and the sector\u27s dynamics and technological characterization. The Quest for Competitive Sustainability: From Technology Sourcing to Knowledge Management
This study undertakes an analysis of external sourcing of knowledge by biotechnology companies. It suggests that biotechnology companies need to be more realistic about R&D operational models in a context where technological changes are only incremental and companies based solely on single technology platforms are highly inefficient. It is argued that in order to build, preserve or enhance their knowledge creation capabilities in a fast changing environment, firms increasingly combine internal ‘‘core’’ capabilities with externally acquired ‘‘complementary’’ ones. Knowledge creation requires in reaching the right balance between exploration and exploitation. It consists of activities within the firm in order to create knowledge from its own experience and from the experience of other firms, and on the exploitation of that knowledge to fulfill the mission of the firm. The Influence of the Actor Network on the Innovative Process of Transgenic Soybean in Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil
Rio Grande do Sul was the first Brazilian state to plant genetically modified soybean. The sowing occurred in 1998 with Roundup Ready soybean seeds from Monsanto smuggled from Argentina. The aim of this study is to investigate how this innovative process of planting transgenic soybean came about in Rio Grande do Sul based on the actor network involved in the period 1998 to 2003. Although the innovative process has been discussed in the literature on innovation management since the work of Schumpeter, there is still no clear understanding of the issues of interests and power that involve the innovative process. Given this, from within the literature we have sought a perspective that would understand the innovative process as being political. We adopted Actor Network Theory as a base for the discussion of the primary and secondary data obtained regarding the controversy surrounding transgenic soybean in RS. This Special Issue aims to present to the scientific, business and policy-making communities a concentrated and multi-faceted body of recent research, that has the potential to raise awareness on the increasing importance of gender in technology, broaden the current understanding of the dynamics and implications of the phenomenon, inspire new research projects in this and related areas, and disseminate good practice.

Information Technology and Communication and Best Practices in It Lifecycle Management
In this work, we focus on the role of Information and Communication Technologies – ICT - to create additional sources of competitive advantage that can help companies to prepare themselves for sustainable growth in the long term. First, we discuss the dynamics of ICTs and the ability to generate innovations with a direct impact on business. Then we present the need for greater balance between goals of short and long term on IT projects. In the third part, we discuss how these new technologies have helped to increase the productivity of information professionals as well as to enhance decision-making process and the satisfaction of the end customer. To conclude, it is presented the main challenges that the technology-based companies will have to face in relation to the management of the lifecycle of their technology, consolidation and simplification of their processes within their computing environments, aiming to increase productivity and develop agile environments that allow the organizations to meet the demands of managing digital information.In this work, we focus on the role of Information and Communication Technologies – ICT - to create additional sources of competitive advantage that can help companies to prepare themselves for sustainable growth in the long term. Instituições e Aprendizado Tecnológico: Articulações Público-privadas na Pesquisa Agrícola no Brasil e na Argentina
The article discusses the institutional arrangements and forms of organization of agricultural research in Brazil and Argentina. The analysis focuses on Embrapa in the Brazilian case and INTA in the Argentinian case. Emphasis is laid on the two institutions’ policies regarding intellectual property and technology transfer. The aim is to contribute to the debate about how to conceptualize the co-evolution of organizations considering the technical, scientific, legal, regulatory, economic and other contexts in which they operate, reinforcing the idea of learning and that economic institutions do not just evolve but co-evolve.The article discusses the institutional arrangements and forms of organization of agricultural research in Brazil and Argentina. The Role of Technology as an Enabler in Job Redesign
This paper is an acknowledgement of the role of technology as an enabler that encourages the constant need to evaluate, update and employ changing job descriptions and business processes that truly acknowledge job requirements as they are versus notions of what they have been or should be. Advancements in technology have brought about a significant amount of change in terms of how we go about doing our daily work. The evolution from being a manufacturing economy to being information and service based brought to the workplace new realities and responsibilities. As a result, workers can no longer expect to be given a specific listing of assigned duties and tasks that remain fixed over a long period of time. The new paradigm in the workplace relies on continuous demands for improvement and acquired knowledge in a dynamic environment. Implementation of Technological Surveillance Tools to the Technologies Related with the Study of the Biogeochemical Cycles
The use of new tools is needed in order to study the geosciences, where gathering information related with different variables is required. This activity implies the use of human and financial resources; nevertheless, each year many losses are registered because of the use of resources in the development of previously invented technologies. This fact and the growing amount of information at patent offices and Proquest databases, encouraged the design of a tool capable of classifying this kind of information.El estudio de las geociencias requiere el uso de instrumentos y desarrollos de última tecnología, que permitan monitorear y recopilar información relacionada con diferentes variables de estudio como precipitación, humedad relativa y radiación, actividad que implica la destinación de grandes recursos financieros y humanos; sin embargo, anualmente se registran millonarias pérdidas por la asignación de recursos a desarrollos ya inventados. The study examined the technological innovation sources, the relevance of these sources as well as institutional supports and their significance to the innovativeness of small and medium manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) in Southwestern Nigeria. The data for the study were collected through questionnaire and interview schedule from a sample of 100 manufacturing SMEs. The results reveal that the key information sources for innovation among these companies are customers; suppliers of equipment and machinery; seminars, training and conferences; market research and business associations. None of the external inputs that the companies needed for internal learning and innovation come from government agencies. The results suggest the urgent need for enterprise-oriented technology transfer from public funded R&D institutions to link the science and technology system with small and medium enterprises production units. This article discusses a survey on the technology of adhesives and sealants used in the construction sector, with scientific articles and patents as sources of information. The search for articles was performed in the sciencedirect database and for patents was performed in the USPTO database. Os dados foram obtidos empregando-se como palavras-chave “adhesive” e “sealant”
