Singularities in the Promotion of the Galician Wind Energy Peripheral Cluster
Wind energy can foster the industrial diversification as well as the employment. This phenomenon does not occur automatically due to the existence of inertias which hinder its development. So it is required public stimulus which triggers the emergence of a new sector. The aim of this paper is to analyse the difficulties in cluster promotion in peripheral contexts in order to develop a comprehensive wind energy industry and service sectors in the north-west Spanish region of Galicia. The methodology uses a broad cluster approach and the evolutionary perspective of the target approach based on the extended life cycle perspective. The results should allow us to obtain an accurate diagnosis of the weaknesses, strengths and the scope of public policy action

Wheat Industry: Which Factors Influence Innovation?
A change in the profile of food consumption is occurring because of the new context of demographic growth, the increase of income in developing economies, and urbanization. In Brazil, consumption patterns have trended from fresh to processed food and internal and external growth in demand has led to opportunities that require new and higher levels of technological innovation and associated managerial skill. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of innovation on a key Brazilian food industry: wheat product markets. Results showed that while most firms did not innovate in the past year, new investments in R&D were important for innovation to occur compared to other factors such as the size of the company, the integration in supply chain, and the age of the company. These results demonstrate that innovation is not a random or unpredictable process, but a complex and diverse process that may be specific to each industry

Regulation and Technology Innovation: A comparison of Stated and Formal Regulatory Barriers throughout the Technology Innovation Process
Regulation is often mentioned as a barrier to technology innovation in various industries. Delayed market entry, added resource requirements, stifled creativity, and added activities are some frequently mentioned complaints. The study presented here explored various claims of regulation acting as a barrier to technology innovation. Furthermore, our findings indicate several discrepancies between stated and formal regulatory barriers, and suggest that the majority of the stated barriers emerge within the organization during operationalization and the technology innovation process
Active Internationalization of Small and Medium-Sized Software Enterprises - Cases of French Software Companies
Implementations of software production processes usually ignore organizational, market, and economical attributes of products that are to be inserted in international markets. Software engineering has begun to deal with the business aspects of software products only recently. The Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge v3.0 presents two concepts of life cycle: the software development life cycle and the software product life cycle. The second is more concerned with business issues related to software products, but research on those issues is still due. In this sense, this paper aims to answer the following question: what factors allow small and medium software enterprises to offer high value added products in order to enter and remain in the international market? This work selects four research dimensions from literature and explores a number of variables inside those dimensions, which are considered as candidates to help explaining a successful process of active internationalization. The paper presents a multiple case study that shows that although innovation, entrepreneurship, and foreign market knowledge are important dimensions for the active internationalization, networking is not as relevant as it could be thought
