Facing the Dark Side: How Leadership Destroys Organisational Innovation

    Get PDF
Leadership is an essential element for promoting innovation. The literature has primarily focused on the effect of “constructive” leadership on innovation, although numerous studies point out that destructive leadership affects organizational performance. However, such literature pays little attention to the relationship between destructive leadership and innovation. This study uses an online survey of 210 employees from 80 Portuguese firms in different sectors, to test the effect of destructive leadership on behavioural innovation and how a caring climate influences such relationship. The analysis uses multiple linear regressions to test the hypotheses. Findings reveal that destructive leadership has a negative effect on innovation and on caring climate. The results show that a caring climate influences innovation in a positive way that mitigates the relationship between destructive leadership and innovation

Towards Innovation in Multinational Corporation Subsidiaries: Development of an Instrument to Select and Evaluate Value Driven Strategies

    Get PDF
This paper examines the complex, interdependent relationship between multinational companies and their subsidiaries. It discusses how subsidiary role development and specific strategic initiatives may add new value to corporations. While previous studies have identified the need for more proactive management practices, there are few practical guides available to managers to help them improve their performance. This paper addresses this deficit and contributes new knowledge on subsidiary role development practices in terms of selection and evaluation. Through an in-depth analysis of extant literature, the research developed and tested an instrument that allows decision makers to assess their company against good practice. This instrument (or audit tool) is an accurate, reliable and valid mechanism to measure a subsidiary’s role development strategies

Literature Review of the Measurement in the Innovation Management

    Get PDF
Organizations create innovation strategies to improve their productivity and the competitive advantage. In this sense, innovation management facilitates the realization of innovation. It is known that measurement is important in the management processes; however, there is no classification of the contributions in these subjects. Therefore, in this study we identify publications that involve measurement and analysis in the management of innovation. Our study used a systematic mapping of the literature and it shows that in recent years there has been an increase in research on measurement, however, there are few studies and only for certain industrial sectors, sizes of companies and countries. Hence, there is a little worked research space which can be more developed

Project Risk Management Implementation in SMEs: A Case Study from Italy

    Get PDF
Despite its strategical importance, the diffusion of Project Risk Management (PRM) is limited mainly to large companies, leaving a lack of empirical evidence addressing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Therefore, the objective of this paper is to analyse how to adopt PRM in SMEs with a positive cost-benefit ratio, considering risk management (RM) phases, activities, tools, instruments, procedures and organisational aspects that enable the effective implementation of PRM in SMEs. To identify the fundamental dimensions to insert in the framework, a systematic literature review was performed, and a pilot case study was conducted to test the validity of the empirical framework and improve it. Moreover, after the case analysis, the benefits obtained and the difficulties faced through the adoption of PRM are presented and discussed

El papel de la Cooperación para Desarrollar Innovación Tecnológica en la PYME

    Get PDF

The Knowledge Body of Requirement Engineering in IST Innovations: An Ontological Analysis

    Get PDF
Requirement Engineering is considered a key factor for Information Systems and Technology (IST) success in innovation. After roughly 40 years, important questions about the impact of RE in innovations remains. Literature review and bibliometric reports are well-known techniques for describing the state of the art; however, both can cover what has been done, but fail to identify the less developed areas. An alternative method is used to describe the whole knowledge body of RE (KBoRE) for IST innovations, and then systematically identify the most, less and uncovered areas. This paper proposes an Ontological framework of the KBoRE for IST innovations, by decomposing it through the identification of taxonomies and concepts that represent the field. Then, we apply the ontology to map articles from SCOPUS and WoS databases. Results reveal emphases that help to design research agendas and feed the KBoRE for IST Innovations to fill the gaps between the academic curiosity and the industry progress

Innovative HRM. A Review of the Literature

    Get PDF
This research note summarizes the findings of a literature review of innovative HRM. Based on an analysis of 47 articles, three main approaches to innovative HRM are identified. First, innovative HRM can refer to innovation of HRM. Other studies focus on how HRM responds to innovations. And, thirdly, the term innovative HRM is found in the literature focusing on organizational innovativeness. These three approaches, along with theoretical explanations, are discussed. The note closes with implications for research and practice

Active Internationalization of Software Enterprises: Scale Development and Validation

    Get PDF
A 34-item scale was developed to measure the attributes that contribute to success in the active internationalization processes of small and medium enterprises of software. Data from 103 companies was analysed. The scale was developed and available online in 4 languages. Based on established scale development procedures, such as exploratory and confirmatory factorial analysis, a final version of the research scale was proposed, composed by 15 items grouped in 4 dimensions. Innovation, entrepreneurship, network, and foreign market knowledge appear to be important factors for the success in the active internationalization processes of small and medium enterprise of software. Reliability and validity measures were calculated in order to check the adequacy of the proposed model. Concluding remarks discuss theoretical and managerial implications with limitations and directions for future research

Digitalización y Modelos de Negocio en la Industria Editorial Española

    Get PDF

A Systematic Review of the Debate and the Researchers of Disruptive Innovation

    Get PDF
Despite the popularity of the term “disruptive innovation”, its applications have taken on different meanings. Clayton Christensen is a prominent author in the field but his approach has not been applied in a consistent manner. To elucidate the use of the term in business studies, this paper employs a bibliometric approach to provide a descriptive analysis of researchers and their relevant works in the network formed by the related literature, in addition to distinguishing and grouping associated authors. The results suggest a dissimilarity of objectives between two subgroups using the term “disruptive innovation”, and the discussion about Clayton Christensen’s specific meaning of the term seems to make sense to only one of them
