Evaluación de la capacidad de innovación y de exportación de las PYMES: Una metodologia de decisión multicriterio

    No full text
A large number of studies have demonstrated the strong influence of and correlation between innovation and export activities as key factors of the firm’s competitiveness. However, these two activities have usually been considered independently of each other in terms of management and support. This paper relies on the characterization of a conceptual innovation/export common space representing the synergistic effects between these two activities. A hybrid AHP/Flowsort MCDM-methodology is proposed in order to model this common space through the evaluation of a framework of joint practices related simultaneously to the innovation and export capabilities of SMEs. The relevance of this methodology is tested through the design of a decision-making tool applied to a French exporting and innovative SME. This case study opens up further research perspectives and points to areas for improvement in the evaluation of SMEs’ capabilities

Rapid technological developments make firms favor the creation of new approaches to corporate entrepreneurship and technology management. One approach, corporate-startup collaboration has reached a new level in the 21st Century and many different models currently exist as a result. However, research on how to evaluate the effects of those collaboration models is limited, and in some cases, non-existent. The purpose of this paper is to test if an analytical framework developed for measuring the results from corporate-startup co-location, also could be useful for measuring the results of other types of corporate-startup collaboration models. The framework is tested through the lens of the corporation and the collaboration unit. The empirical study includes 10 cases, representing five different corporate-startup models. The finding was that the analytical framework is useful in planning, analyzing and follow- up the results of many different corporate-startup collaboration models

Critical Success Factors of Product Development Projects in the Automotive Industry

    Get PDF
The objective of this study was to determine the critical success factors (CSFs), as well as respective best practices (BPs) associated with those factors, using a case survey of the employees of Ford Motor Company working in different development centers around the world. The company’s project managers were asked to respond to two structured questionnaires. The results confirm the study’s assumption that the order of importance of the CSFs of the automotive industry differ from those of other industries in general. The results also reflect the importance of the front end (FE) phase in the new product development process. Regional differences were also observed. Neglecting CSFs can lead to delayed decision-making, resulting in higher development costs or cancellations of projects

Characteristics and Challenges of Agile Software Development Adoption in Brazilian Government

    Get PDF
Governments worldwide have been working to provide better digital services to citizens. In Brazil, this initiative is ongoing since the 2000’s with the aim create better digital solutions that provide access to government information, improvements in public services, and increase social participation. One of the strategies for developing digital solutions – i.e. software solutions – is the adoption of agile software development (ASD) methods, which are forms of software processes that enable delivering working software in a timely manner to respond to customer needs. While industry surveys are performed annually to understand ASD adoption in companies, little is known about the adoption of ASD in Brazilian government organizations and which are the challenges faced by these organizations. The goal of this study is thus to describe agile software development adoption in the Brazilian public sector, by showing the characteristics for adoption and challenges. We conducted a survey with practitioners of government-based organizations in Brazil and statistically analyzed data. Out of the 167 responses, we learned that ASD projects are mostly successful and, on their majority, they are conducted combined with other software development approaches. Also, accelerating product delivery and increasing productivity are ranked as the main reasons for agile adoption, followed by cultural change and resistance to change as the main challenges still faced by Brazilian government IT organizations in the use of ASD

This research aims to explore the university-industry collaboration in a public university in Mexico. This research considers the researchers´ perception of organizational factors and the researchers´ characteristics as drivers of the university-industry collaboration. The research design of this study was quantitative. Findings indicate that the researchers´ participation in innovation projects is low. The researchers´ perception about some organizational factors to collaborate with industry is negative. Data shows that researchers consider complicate to establish a relationship with industry that is mainly related to organizational factors. In addition, important findings of this study suggest that researchers´ gender influence the university-industry collaboration

University-Industry Relations and Industrial Innovation: Evidence from Brazil

University-industry relations are an important factor for industrial innovation. However, the results of these relationships for the firms remain largely unmeasured. Moreover, the contribution of different types of interactions to firm innovativeness is known mainly in theoretical terms.  Departing from a secondary data of Brazilian university-industry interaction survey, also known as “BR survey”, this study employs crisp-set qualitative comparative analysis (csQCA) to identify how five types of University-industry interactions - training-oriented, service-oriented, diffusion-oriented, development-oriented, and research-oriented - combine to produce high innovation output. The results show that the most complex interactions - development-oriented and research-oriented - are the only types of interactions that alone lead the firm to high innovativeness. In contrast, less complex interactions alone are not enough to make the firm innovate beyond the “new-to-the-firm” level and need to be complemented by more complex interaction

Using data from the Ecuadorean Innovation Survey of 2015, this paper examines the factors associated with the abandonment of innovation activities of firms in a developing country. Additionally, it is analyzed whether the influence of these factors differs depending on the level of technological cooperation existing in the regions in which the firms operate. The results indicate that the probability of abandonment is greater in firms that invest in complex innovation activities, in those that cooperate simultaneously with other firms and research institutions and in those with greater export intensity. In addition, it is observed that medium-sized firms are those that show a lower probability of abandonment. Finally, the results indicate that the influence of these factors differs considerably depending on the level of regional technological cooperation.

New Product Opportunity Identification: A Perspective from Inside the Intuitive Phenomenon

    Get PDF
Innovating comprises generating offers that make the preexisting ones obsolete. It implies in the creation or recognition of new forms of differentiation, the Opportunities Identification (OI). These may be due, among others, to new solutions or new problems to be solved, the latter a less explored path in the Product Development Process. There are studies aimed at systematizing OI, but present a discreet behavior in front of intuitive approaches. These rely on individual talent, a non-unanimous resource. As innovation is time-sensitive, there is room for artificial stimuli to intuition, which relies on the need for a close understanding of the phenomenon. This paper presents the descriptive research outcomes from a broader prescriptive study, which adopted the Design Research Methodology structure. Because OI is primarily a cognitive process and difficult to observe by a third party, one of the researchers submitted himself to the experience and recording of the phenomenon. The experience constitutes a unique case of OI accompanied during 2590 days. During this time, the study recorded 137 potential opportunities (units of analysis) by serendipity. Through the interpretation of the experienced phenomenon, the results comprise three perspectives: i/to the interaction of influence factors pointed out in the literature; ii/to the opportunities emergence; and, iii/to the opportunities identification. It is evident the challenge of considering opportunities as problems by its tendency of incubation. The work presents new research questions, hypotheses, and explanations valid to the case that potentially stimulate new exploratory or confirmatory researches or both

    Get PDF
