Particle tracking simulation of marine debris using Lagrangian discrete and mesh spatial discretization in Banda Aceh waters
Ocean dynamics has a direct impact on the distribution of objects or dissolved particles such as marine debris. Hydrodynamic studies are currently an important tool to identify the potential pollution in the region. Data were collected from March to September 2019 in the northern waters of Banda Aceh. Wind data were obtained using AWS and bathymetry data were collected using the single beam echosounder. The results showed that the wind direction on the coast of Banda Aceh City was dominant towards the Northwest and Northeast with a maximum speed of 9 m/s. Wind direction will highly influence the sea surface currents dynamics that lead to longshore currents and radiation currents occur in coastal areas.Keywords:Marine debrisWasteFisher
A short review of discovery and development of fish sperm cryopreservation
Global biodiversity, especially fish, has experienced a decline, this occurs as a result of over-exploitation, the presence of introduced fish species and climate change. This condition makes researchers look for solutions to overcome these problems by using cryopreservation techniques. The main purpose of cryopreservation is to store, maintain, and ensure the survival of genetic material, so that using cryopreservation techniques can maintain the viability and function of gamete cells both immunologically, biologically and physiologically. The success of the cryopreservation technique has made this technique widely developed in various species of living organism including fish. Characteristics of catfish oil, red palm oil and shark liver oil as functional foods
Functional food is a food ingredient in addition to basic needs as nutrients that can also play a functional role in health. This research aimed to determine the physicochemical characteristics and fatty acid composition of catfish oil, red palm oil, and shark liver oil as functional food ingredients. The research method was to extract fish oil from belly flap, purify catfish oil, and process red palm oil (RPO) from crude palm oil (CPO). The analysis parameters consisted of sensory analysis, oil chemical characteristics (free fatty acid analysis, peroxide, iodine, saponification, and acid numbers), total carotene, tocopherol, and analysis of fatty acid composition. The results showed that the catfish oil after being purified had sensory characteristics, smelled slightly fishy and semi-solid, and had a bright yellow color. The results of the analysis of chemical characteristics showed that the free fatty acid numbers of catfish oil and shark liver oil were following IFOS standards (1.33 and 0.62%), and the RPO numbers for peroxide and free fatty acids according to the SNI standards (9.56 meq kg and 1.44%). The highest -3 and - 6 fatty acids were in shark liver oil (3.56 and 35.35%), followed by catfish oil (1.72 and 19.9%). and RPO does not contain -3 and -6. Catfish oil, RPO, and shark liver oil act as functional foods. The fatty acid composition of catfish, shark liver and red palm oil contains saturated and the fatty acid composition of catfish, shark liver and red palm oil contains saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. Mono and poly unsaturated fatty acid (FUFA anf MUFA) in crude catfish oil, pure catfish oil, shark liver oil, and red palm oils were 56.71, 58.12, 63.81 and 47.39% respectively. The result of analysis showed composition of in catfish oil 1.72 and 19.9 %. The content of and of shark liver oil was 3.5 and 35.5%. Whereas in red palm oil does not 3 and 6. The content of EPA and DHA in shark liver oil was 0.08, 0.09 but not in catfish and red palm oil. The total content of carotene and tocopherol in red palm oil was 513.86 and 925.80 mg/kg, respectively. Analysis of hairtail (Trichiurus sp.) fishing by handlines in Palabuhanratu Bay, West Java
The waters of Palabuhanratu Bay are fertile and rich with fish resources. For a long time, fishermen have used the fish resources in these waters. Hairtail (Trichiurus sp.) was one of the fish resources in Palabuhanratu Bay that caught by fishermen using handlines. Fishery production landed at Palabuhanratu Fishing Port in 2019 was 5,414,240 kg with a total hairtail production of 314,107 kg. The problem raised in this study was knowing the right hairtail fishing season so that it provides optimum benefits for fishermen. In addition, knowing potential fishing areas could assist fishermen in choosing their fishing time and fishing ground. The purpose of this study was to describe the hairtail fishing unit, to analyze the catch composition of handline, to analyze the fishing season patterns of hairtail fish, and to analyze hairtail fishing ground in Palabuhanratu bay. The results of the analysis showed that the fishing season for hairtail (Trichiurus sp.) in the waters of Palabuhanratu Bay lasts for 5 years with the peak in October. However, the reality is that fishing operations can be carried out throughout the year. The average catch per unit effort (CPUE) of hairtail (Trichiurus sp) duringfishing seasons was 11.32 kg/trip in 2019. The potential fishing ground was in the waters of West Ujung Genteng, Southern waters of Sawarna, Southern waters of Karanghawu and the waters of West Ujung Karang Bentang.Keywords:Fishing season patternHairtail fishFishing groundPalabuhanratu Ba
Histopathology status of black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) in the conventional system in Bireuen, Aceh Province
The purpose of this study was to identify the tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) histopatology status in traditional cultured ponds at Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province. The sampling was carried out by purposively random method from seven ponds and two shrimps were sampled from each pond. Several water quality parameters were checked like temperature, pH, salinity and ammonia. Result showed that black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) which were cultivated in traditional ponds in the Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province were histopathologically changes. It was suspected the hepatopancreas changes were associated with viral infection like Hepatopancreatica Parvovirus (HPV) and White Feces Disease (WFD). Ammonia concentrations were found higher in some ponds like Alu Buya Village, Jangka Keutapang Village, Jangka Mesjid Village, Alu Kuta Village and Punjot Village. The management of regular feeding and water quality control is highly recommended to anticipate the viral potential attack in traditional shrimp pond farming at Jangka District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province.Keywords:Tiger shrimps Histopathology Water qualit
Literature review on fermentation factors of restaurant organic waste affecting feed quality
The high level of public consumption, balanced with the increasingly dense population globally, makes food waste more and more. Food waste is the second-largest contributor to waste in the world. Moreover, the lack of food waste management makes this condition even worse. This food waste can be found, one of which is in restaurants, school canteens, food courts, and others. Fermentation is the process of breaking down complex substances into simpler ones. A fermentation process can help process food waste into various products such as liquid organic fertilizer, compost, biogas, and raw material for fish feed. Through the fermentation process, food waste can be used as an alternative fish feed with high nutritional content to benefit fish cultivators. Fish need many nutrients for their bodies, with food waste that has been processed will meet the dietary needs of fish. The cultivators will benefit more from the cost of feed and the sale of fish that can meet consumer needs.Moreover, the demand for the fish market is increasing every year. Several factors play a role in the success of the food waste fermentation process and the quality of the resulting product to be converted into fish feed raw materials. Data accuracy in capture fisheries production at Cilacap Ocean Fishing Port
Accurate capture fishery production data at the fishing ports is crucial, especially for planning the development of capture fisheries and fishing ports. This research aims to analyze the mechanism and accuracy in collecting capture fishery data at the fishing port, especially Cilacap Ocean Fishing Port (OFP). The data collection mechanism of capture fishery production is analyzed through a qualitative descriptive method, while the accuracy of the data was analyzed with a comparative quantitative descriptive method. The results showed three steps in the data collection mechanism at Cilacap OFP: data collection, data recapitulation, and data reporting. The values of deviation and accuracy level of the data on capture fishery were 3,4%-62,1% and 37,9%-96,6%, respectively. Fishing season of large pelagic fish in Idi Rayeuk waters, East Aceh, Indonesia
Large pelagic fish live on the water surface in groups. Skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis), yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares), mackerel tuna (Euthynnus affinis), mackerel (Scomberomous guttatus) are species of fishes that mainly catches by fishermen using purse seines. This study aims to determine the length and weight of large pelagic fish in the water of Idi Rayeuk and best the fishing season. This research was conducted in one month. Fish samples were collected from fishermen that used purse seine and landed their catches at the Idi Rayeuk Fishing Port, East Aceh. Additionally, the data was derived from the fishing port time-series during 2015 to 2019. The result showed that the yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) has a length between 37 - 58 cm with a weight of 1.0 - 3.2 kg, skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) 32 - 58 cm in length and weight 0.5 - 3.0 kg, mackerel tuna has 33 - 54 cm of length with a weight of 0.6 - 2.5 kg, and mackerel has 44 - 66 cm of length and weighing 0.7 - 1.7 kg. Its also found that the peak season for catching yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) and mackerel tuna is May and June, and the lowest season in December for the yellowfin tuna, and December and January for the mackerel tuna. The peak season for skipjack fishing occurs in May, August, and October, and the low season occurs in November and December.
