    The Bintan MOS development: contribution of ideas to realize Nusantara marine observation network

    Several marine research have attempted to design a data observation system using Internet of Things (IoT). In the future, this system is predicted to become a necessity for marine researchers as a strategic technology to continuously access data. Therefore, this study provides information on the development and application of observation and data collection systems using IoT. The coastal weather and tidal data were obtained via the automatic coastal weather station and acoustic gauge respectively. Meanwhile, the various research activities commenced in July, 2018. In the first year, an operational observation system was developed, while comprehensive baseline data such as air temperature, humidity, wind speed, and sea surface level were also collected. This collection system is reliable, provides real-time data, and easily accessible with internet connection. Furthermore, the Bintan Marine Observation System (The Bintan MOS) is also suitable for other uses such as; monitoring water quality and marine mammals, as well as disaster mitigation. The adoption of this system by other sectors potentially conditions marine researchers for data exchange, to fully understand the fluctuations in coastal weather of Western and Eastern Indonesia as well as the tropical and sub-tropical marine weather.     Literature review on shipyard productivity in Indonesia

    The shipyard industry plays an important role in supporting fishing activities and efforts to fulfill animal protein for humans. It is an industry that has an orientation to produce a product in the form of a ship. There are two types of shipyards, which are offshore buildings and floating buildings - both are used to build new ships and repair old ships. Based on the level of technology used by the shipyard industry, it is divided into modern, traditional, and semi-modern shipyards. Its productivity can see the advantages and disadvantages of a shipyard to ensure this industry remains to exist.     Cellulase activity of bacteria isolated from water of mangrove ecosystem in Aceh Province

    Cellulolytic bacteria that produce cellulase enzymes play an essential role in degrading cellulose in their habitat. The presence of cellulolytic bacteria strongly supports the fertility and productivity in mangrove waters. The objectives of the study are to analyze the activity of cellulase enzyme qualitatively through the cellulolytic index and quantitatively through the activity and specific activity of the cellulase enzyme from bacteria isolated from the water of mangrove ecosystems in Aceh Province. The qualitative experiment of enzyme activity was carried out at the Microbiology laboratory SKIPM Aceh, and a quantitative experiment of enzyme activity was conducted at the Microbiology Laboratory, Biology Department, IPB. Isolation of cellulolytic bacteria isolated from mangrove water usedCarboxy Methyl Cellulose(1% CMC) selective media and carried out by spread plate method. The ability of bacteria to produce cellulase was tested qualitatively using the spot technique, this test was carried out using 1% Congo Red. Furthermore, the quantitative testing of cellulase enzymes activity adopted the DNS spectrophotometric method. The specific activity of the cellulase enzyme can be determined by using the Lowry method. There were 21 isolates that had a clear zone and had the ability to produce cellulase enzymes from 49 isolates that were successfully purified. The highest cellulolytic index (CI) produced using BAM421 isolate with the value of 5.50 was included in the high category, followed by BAM326 and BAM132 isolates, with values of 1.55 and 1.05 were categorized into the medium category. The other isolates were in the low cellulolytic index category. The isolate with the highest CI value was further tested using the quantitative enzyme activity test. The highest cellulase enzyme activity of BAM421 occurred at 24hr (0.0029 U/ml). The highest specific cellulase activity of BAM421 was at 24hr with the value of 0.210 U/mg. The result concluded that the qualitative test showed CI values can be categorized into low, medium, and high.     Feed efficiency with the addition of probiotics for asang fish fry, Osteochilus vittatus, CV

    The purpose of this study was to determine the addition of probiotics in commercial feed to the growth and survival of Asang fish (Osteochilus vittatus CV) fry. This study used an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The test fish used were 120 fish with a size ranging from 5-8 cm. The test fish were kept in a waring cage made of a type of paralon frame with a size of 40 x 40 x 45 cm. The treatment in this study was A (without probiotics), treatment B (addition of probiotic 10 ml/kg of feed), treatment C (addition of probiotic 20 ml/kg of feed), and treatment D (addition of probiotics 30 ml/kg of feed). From the results of this study, the highest specific growth rate was found in treatment D (6.66 1.15 g), while the mean survival was 100% for all treatments. The highest FCR of fish fry was found in treatment A namely 1.43 0.22, and the lowest in treatment D namely 1.12 0.21, and for feed efficiency in treatment D, namely 95.24 1.04 %.Keywords:Asang fishEfficiencyGrowthSurviva

    The diversity of plankton as bioindicators in Kakap River Estuary, West Kalimantan

    Kakap River Estuary plays an essential role in the life organisms, but it is vulnerable to environmental changes and pollution caused by human activities. This study aims to assess the presence of plankton species, their abundance and diversity as aquatic ecological bio-indicators in Kakap River Estuary. Plankton and water samples were taken for three months, with a frequency of one sample per month, viz. in March, April and June 2020 from four sampling stations in Kakap River Estuary, West Kalimantan. A total of 34 species of plankton were observed from all sampling sites, and identified to belong to 18 classes. Chlorophyceae had the highest relative abundance among the phytoplanktons (40.10%), followed by Bacillariophyceae (21.86%) and Cyanophyceae (19.28%). Oscillatoria sp. and Hydrodictyon sp. were the most dominant phytoplankton species. There were 8 classes of zooplankton identified from all sampling stations throughout the research period. Hexanauplia had the highest relative abundance among the zooplanktons (36.56%) followed by Euglenophyceae (24.37%). The plankton diversity index (H ) values ranged between 2.33 -3.11. The plankton evenness index value ranged from 0.79 to 0.89 which indicates high plankton evenness at all samping stations, and this is supported by a low dominance index value at all stations ranging from 0.06-0.16. Station 1 had high Shannon-Wienner diversity index score, while for station 2, 3, 4, their scores were in the moderate level. Overall. the diversity index of the plankton from all sampling sites indicated that the quality of the water had no pollution to light pollution level.Keywords:PhytoplanktonZooplanktonWater qualit

    Analysis of catches data collection system at Fish Landing Base (PPI) of Dumai

    Data collection system in Fish Landing Base of Dumai was traditionally. Data written manually using books and collected by agents. This fact illustrates the weakness of the catch data collection system that occours. The effect is low data accuracy and requires a longer time in reporting. Data collection system based on technology will facilitate the process and important to do. The purpose of this study was to design a data collection system for fish catches landed at Fish Landing Base of Dumai. The research was conducted in February-June 2020 in Dumai city. The method used observation, interviews and literature review. Data analysis is used the process of analyzing data, literature review, analysis of existing systems, analysis of new systems and system design using data flow diagrams (DFD), entity relationship diagrams (ERD) and HIPO. System design starts from input, output and database design. The data design inputted is fishermen data, fishing gear, fish production and price of day, fish distribution, customer data and data employees. The output data are reports of user data, fishing gear specifications, fish production and fish distribution. The database is structured and presented using a flow chart.     The growth performance of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) co-cultured with different vegetable plants in aquaponics system

    A 28-days trial was conducted in an aquaponics culture system to determine the effect of the different vegetable plants application on the growth performance and survival rate of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Common carp seeds were obtained from local fish farmers in Aceh Besar District. A total of 360 common carp fingerlings (size 3-5 cm) were used and placed in 12 containers with the capacity of 80 L each. The study used four treatments, namely A (control), B Kale (Ipomoea aquatica), C Lettuce (Lactuca sativa), and D Pakcoy (Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis), with three replications for each treatment. The result showed that different vegetable plants' applications significantly affected (P 0.05) the absolute weight gain, absolute length gain, and survival rate of common carp fingerlings. The highest value obtained was in treatment B (Ipomoea aquatic) with an absolute weight gain of 3.93 0.28 g, absolute length gain of 3.810.21 cm, and survival rate of 1000.0%, while the lowest was in treatment A (control) with an absolute weight gain of 1.210.76 g, absolute length gain of 1.700.10 cm and survival rate of 910.86%. Water quality was also collected in this study and the parameters during rearing were still within the tolerance limits of common carp rearing. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Kale plant, Ipomoea aquatica is the most recommended vegetable plant to be co-cultured with common carp in the aquaponics system.Keywords:AquaponicsCommon CarpVegetable Plant

    Pola pertumbuhan dan faktor kondisi ikan sembilang (Potosus canius) di Teluk Bintan Kepulauan Riau

    One of the economically important fish included in the Plotosidae family is the Sembilang Fish. This study aims to determine the growth patterns and condition factors of the Sembilang fish. The research was conducted in July 2018. The locations of the Sembilang Fish sampling station include Dompak Island Bay, Bugis Village Bay, Madong Bay, Pengujan Bay and Tanjung Uban. The total sample of Sembilang Fish that has been obtained is 150, consisting of 80 males and 70 females. Total length ranges from 19.7-66 cm, with weights ranging from 33.68-960 g. The mode of distribution of the frequency of the fish caught during the study was in the second class interval, namely 25.7-30.7. The relationship between the length and weight of male Sembilang fish is W = 0, 0268L2,5378 and the female is W = 0, 00542L2,3347. The growth pattern of Sembilang fish, both male and female, is negative allometric which shows the length growth is faster than the weight. Pola pertumbuhan Ikan Sembilang baik jantan maupun betina adalah alometrik negatif yang memperlihatkan pertumbuhan panjang lebih cepat daripada bobotnya.     Dinamika pertumbuhan sepat siam (Trichopodus pectoralis, Regan 1910) di Perairan Rawa Banjiran Patra Tani Sumatra Selatan

    The exploitation of Sepat siam (Trichopodus pectoralis, Regan 1910) that include native species of floodplain has been done on many years. One of the main fishing areas of this commodity is Patratani floodplain, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra. This commodity has been exploited over a long period and is expected to have a high pressure of fishing. The aim of this paper is to compare the utilization of sepat siam resources based on growth, mortality, and exploitation parameters between 2010 and 2017. Fish samples were collected monthly started from March to December in 2010, and April to December in 2017. The sample got from local fishers who fished around Patratani flood-plain waters. Sepat siam samples were measured on length (cm) and weight (gram) every month. The analysis has concluded based on the condition factor in both years. The growth parameters were analyzed by FiSATII software. The result of FiSAT II analysis drawn the growth factor was 0.86 in 2010, and have been growing slow to be 0.55 in 2017. The length infinitive in 2010 was around 21.5 cm and decreased to 18.3 in 2017. The other results showed that the exploitation level decreased from 0.61 in 2010 to 0.53 in 2017. The exploitation rate proved that the utilization of sepat siam was decreased but sill on overfishing conditions. The length size of sepat siam related to the optimum mesh size fishing gears was decreasing in 2017 compared to 2010. The age analysis shows for 21.5 cm of the infinitive length is achieved for 7 months in 2010, while 18.3 cm of that is reached for 10,5 months in 2017.Keywords:Exploitation levelFloodplainSepat siamABSTRAKKegiatan penangkapan Sepat siam (Trichopodus pectoralis, Regan 1910) yang merupakan spesies asli ikan rawa banjiran sudah dilakukan bertahun-tahun. Salah satu lokasi penangkapan komoditas ini adalah di rawa banjiran Patratani, Kabupaten Muara Enim, Provinsi Sumatra Selatan.Komoditas ini telah mengalami eksploitasi dalam jangka waktu yang lama dan diperkirakan mengalami tekanan penangkapan yang besar.Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk menampilkan eksploitasi atau pemanfaatan ikan sepat siam berdasarkan parameter pertumbuhan, mortalitas, dan eksploitasi pada tahun 2010 dan 2017. Sampel ikan dikumpulkan setiap bulan yaitu dimulai Maret hingga Desember 2010.Kegiatan pengumpulan sampel dilanjutkan pada April hingga Desember 2017.Sampel ikan diperoleh dari tangkapan nelayan lokal yang memancing di sekitar perairan rawa banjiran Patratani.Sampel ikan diukur panjang (cm) dan berat (gram).Parameter pertumbuhan dianalisis menggunakan perangkat lunak FiSAT II. Hasil analisis FiSAT II menggambarkan faktor pertumbuhan sepat siam pada 2010 sebesar 0,86, dan tumbuh melambat menjadi 0,55 pada 2017. Panjang infinitif sepat siam pada 2010 sekitar 21,5 cm dan turun menjadi 18,3 pada 2017. Analisis tingkat eksploitasi menunjukkan hasil menurun dari 0,61 pada 2010 dan 0,53 pada 2017, namun masih dalam kondisi penangkapan ikan menunjukkan tangkapan berlebih. Hubungan antara ukuran panjang sepat siam dengan ukuran optimal alat tangkap menunjukkan hasil menurun pada 2017.     Preferensi lokasi penyu bertelur di Pantai Taman Kili-Kili, Kabupaten Trenggalek, Jawa Timur, Indonesia

    Taman Kili-Kili Beach, Trenggalek Regency, East Java Province is one of location where sea turtles landing and laying their eggs. This location is a community-based conservation area. Based on information from Wonocoyo Village Pokmaswas who worked at the location, the landing and nesting area of sea turtles tends to be on the west side of the coast. This study aimed to provide a scientific explanation of these conditions by using remote sensing data of time series Sentinel Image 2a, beach sand texture data, beach profiles, sea turtle landing location, supratidal area prediction using GIS analysis and eggs data. Result showed that the preference of the landing and nesting area of sea turtles on the west side of Taman Kili-Kili Beach was related to the dynamics of the coastal conditions especially the coastline and supratidal area. Berdasarkan informasi Pokmaswas Desa Wonocoyo yang bekerja di lokasi tersebut, area pendaratan dan bertelurnya penyu laut cenderung pada sisi barat pantai. Penelitian ini bertujuan memberikan penjelasan ilmiah mengenai kondisi tersebut dengan menggunakan data penginderaan jauh berupa Citra Sentinel 2a multi waktu, data tekstur pasir pantai, profil pantai, data lokasi pendaratan penyu laut, prediksi area supratidal menggunakan analisis SIG serta data telur. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa kecenderungan area pendaratan dan bertelurnya penyu laut di sisi barat Pantai Taman Kili-Kili ini terkait dengan dinamika kondisi pantai khususnya garis pantai dan area supratidal.
