    The purpose of this study was to describe and explain (1) optimization of poetry appreciation learning for Indonesian Language Education students at the Peradaban University through the use of social media and (2) students' interest in learning after using social media in learning poetry appreciation. The method in this research is a case study. The focus of research is related to learning poetry with supporting data for interviews and documentation.Data analysis techniques consist of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that (1) social media becomes a medium that can improve students' language skills and critical thinking as an actualization of poetry appreciation learning which includes introduction, recitation, and poetry production through the use of YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and the Website, (2) the use of media social in learning poetry has an effect on improving cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. The cognitive aspect leads to the stages of understanding and the thought process of introducing, studying, and producing poetry.     Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi eksistensi perempuan dalam filem “Uang Panai” yang terepresentasi dari pemeran utama Wanita Risna. Seorang perempuan berdarah Makassar dengan lingkungan sosial yang masih sangat memegang teguh nilai-nilai budaya dan tradisi dimana tokoh tersebut menunjukkan eksistensinya dalam menyikapi budaya dalam pernikahan Bugis-Makassar yaitu uang panai. Dalam sudut pandang perempuan (Risna) menunjukkan bahwa perempuan berusaha keras untuk melawan tradisi adat pernikahan tersebut.     Students always have difficulty in writing composition using English. This encourages teachers to conduct research. The purpose of study is to improve students' motivation and ability in writing descriptive text, using social media and photo comics. The social media used in this research are Youtube and Whatsapp which support the learning process. Meanwhile, the photo comic used in this study is expected to be of interest to students, so that it can encourage students to be motivated in learning English, including being eager to write Descriptive Text. Because students interested in photo comics and make them easy to write. Students are helped to make some sentences by images of photo comic. The method used in this research is Project Based Learning (PBL). The subjects are 7th grade students of SMPN 8 Surakarta in second semester 2021/2022. Students had to achieve the Base Competence of English Curriculum 7th grade 4.7.2 that is Compiling oral and written descriptive texts, very short and simple, related to people, animals, and objects that they like by paying attention to social functions, text structure, and linguistic elements, correctly and in context. The results showed that social media and photo comics are very effective in increasing students' motivation and ability to write descriptive text. They are very interesting and effective sources of ideas for students in writing the text. Finally, students increased their motivation and ability in writing Descriptive Text, and also can reach the Base Competence of English curriculum of 7th grade (KD 4.7.2.)

    Genre Analysis of Online Promotion on Nihi Tourism Website

    This study aims to investigate the moves and steps leading to the generic structures of Nihi Official Website. It is a descriptive qualitative method. The source of data in this study is the official website of Nihi, while the data are the sentences in promotional of tourism destination that contain of move and step of advertisement. It is based on Bhatia’s (1993) moves and steps in advertisements. The results of the study shows that there are four obligatory moves, i.e. move 1 establishing credentials, move 2 introducing the offer with 2 steps in move 2, namely step 1 offering the product and step 2 essential detailing of the offer, move 5 soliciting responses. There is a non-obligatory, i.e. move 6 pressure tactic that only appear once. In addition, there are absences of three moves. They are move 3, move 4, and move 7 that are not found the promotional website

    ABSTRACTThis study aims to explore how the main character who hopes that he can turn into a complete human is told in the form of short stories and films. This study focuses on 2 texts with a female main character who is a beautiful mermaid, namely The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen (1837) and Walt Disney (1989). The two main female characters in the story are explained through the actential theory of A.J. Greimas. The focus of this research is the similarity of subjects but has different objects in the form of happiness defined by the main character. The findings of this study include: 1) The object in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid story is eternal life, while The Little Mermaid in Walt Disney version is married with a prince; 2) The opponent of both stories which is kind of happiness defined by the main character.Keywords: Fairy Tales, Happiness, True Lov

    Penilaian teman sebaya formatif memiliki peran penting dalam memantau performa belajar peserta didik di kelas. Dalam Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar, penilaian teman sebaya formatif adalah sebuah metode penilaian yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan kognitif, psikomotor, dan afektif peserta didik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelusuri persepsi dan tantangan yang dihadapi peserta didik SMP dalam menerapkan penilaian teman sebaya formatif selama kegiatan presentasi lisan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dan dilakukan dengan melibatkan 5 peserta didik kelas VII di salah satu SMP di Sidoarjo. Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan kuesioner terbuka dan sesi wawancara. Sumber data penelitian diambil dari jawaban peserta didik yang ada di kuesioner dan wawancara. Analisis data digunakan sebagai evaluasi dari implementasi penilaian teman sebaya formatif dalam presentasi lisan di tingkat SMP. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penilaian teman sebaya formatif membantu peserta didik SMP dalam mempersiapkan tugas, fokus selama sesi kegiatan presentasi lisan, meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan evaluatif, mengembangkan kepercayaan diri, dan mengenali kelebihan dan kelemahan teman mereka secara mendalam. Di sisi lain, beberapa peserta didik justru mendapatkan keluhan, menemukan kesulitan dalam menentukan nilai, ulasan, dan pertanyaan yang sesuai serta menemukan adanya tindakan kecurangan selama kegiatan penilaian teman sebaya formatif. Selain dari keuntungan dan kerugiannya, penilaian teman sebaya formatif dapat dipertimbangkan sebagai metode penilaian alternatif bagi para peserta didik SMP selama melaksanakan kegiatan presentasi lisan. Diharapkan, penelitian ini dapat dikembangkan oleh peneliti lain di lingkup pendidikan yang lebih luas

                This study examines linguistic landscape perspective of language used in labeling historical objects at the Keraton Sumenep Museum. Keraton Sumenep Museum is a place to collect, treat, present and preserve the historical objects of the Sumenep Palace and one of the tourism destination in Sumenep.  It employed a qualitative method to describe and explain the languages displayed, the sign meterials, and the sign categories in the museum following the taxonomy signs by Spolsky and Cooper. The applied method has assisted the researchers to reach the objectives of this study by getting 124 pictures of landscape linguistic signs. The result of this research shows that linguistic landscape in the museum buildings consist of monolingual and bilingual in Indonesian and English language. The Indonesian language is being chosen because most of the visitors are from locals who can communicate in Indonesian. Moreover, English language is displayed in LL because there are a number of international tourists who come to visit the museum

    This paper discusses about how ‘Enola Holmes’ film is a diegetic extension that represents feministic ideas. Intend to explain the relation between the feministic ideas and the concept of postmodernism. It is argued that the narrative of Enola Holmes reuses and recycles narrative of Sherlock Holmes in form of pastiche so to extend the pre-existing grand narrative of Sherlock Holmes. The extension makes it possible to render a portrayal of independent and self-determined female detective.

The research is a qualitative study that investigates translation cognitive behavior in Indonesian – English text which explored the translation process of Indonesian text. This research used descriptive analysis to interpret the data. The data source is recording video or transcription data that run between a female student and her professor in getting meaning of the word in good translation using many strategies in finding appropriate meaning. Cognitive behaviors show all mental processes which people use on daily basis such as memory, learning, problem-solving, evaluation, and decision making, these activities can help the translator to generate ideas in identifying difficult words from the source text to target language

    Revealing Equiterra Campaign by United Nations Women: Multimodal Perspective

    Equiterra is a digital campaign that was released on 2020 International Women's Day by United Nations Women and Ruby Taylor. It is a digital illustration of a utopian country where equality and fairness manifested. It is constructed by rich verbal and visual elements which makes it a multimodal text. This study aims to analyze the three metafunctions of visual and verbal elements of Equiterra. The study is conducted using a qualitative method by analyzing the visual and verbal elements within illustration using the theory of Systemic Functional Linguistics by Halliday and Matthiessen (2014) and Visual Grammar by Kress and van Leeuwen (2006), also analyzing the interplay between verbal and visual elements using Intersemiotic Complementarity by Royce (1998). The data are the nine parts of Equiterra which are taken from the official website of United Nations Women that are separated but also joined together into forming a path. The analysis finds that Equiterra tries to represent people with various socio-cultural backgrounds to perform their activities and to obtain their maximum potential fairly and equally along with actively encouraging the viewer to make it possible. Furthermore, Equiterra is a feminist digital media that delivers the intersectional issues related to gender, equality, and inclusion which are used to raise awareness towards the problems around these topics
