The controversy of this behavior and its implication is explored: cigarette is demanding goods for many people, particularly men; cigarette industries also contribute a lot to job opportunities, household income, and government revenues, but the health consequences of smoking behavior exceed the benefits. In addition, most smokers in this country spend their limited income more for tobacco than for education and health, and hence affects negatively to their welfare. This paper than explores state regulations applied in many parts of the world since 16th centuries, and efforts to regulate smoking behavior in Indonesia, and their effectiveness to protect people from smoke hazards

MIGRASI INTERNASIONAL, JAMINAN PERLINDUNGAN, DAN TANTANGAN EKONOMI GLOBAL
The setback of regional economic growth, in turn, has a big enough influence in the regional labor market. This condition is deteriorated by the decrease of investment flow as a consequence of the existing political rush and it has a direct impact toward the economic field. The reality that the political virus has transformed and even nearly destroyed the national and regional economic structures becomes an inevitable thing. The fact that the economic pressure incomparable with the economic potency of the country of origin becomes one of important determinants for the rise of new dimensions in migration activities. It is also pushed by the development of globalization spirit which has direct consequence in economic field of some countries. Therefore, in the next era of global transparency and free market, government in many countries (including countries in the third world) can no longer shoot aside on behalf of any political interests or economic protections but open a political entrance to give a more transparent security commitment to their labors in general

SRIHARJO PADA MASA KRISIS
Generally, it is assumed that the economic crisis would hardly experienced by people who live in urban areas, mainly those who are in the lowest social stratum. Certainly, some people (experts) are convinced that people who live in the village would not affected by the impact of stagnating national economy. Recent studies, however, show that almost all of social stratum in Indonesia, both in cities and villages, are hit by the crisis but the intensities of its varies from one group to another. There are many factors to be considered in discussing impacts of crisis, i.e social, economy, and demography, as well. This article will clearly describe how people from various strata in the village perceive and how do they cope with the crisis
RESISTENSI DAN FLEKSIBILITAS PENDUDUK PERDESAAN LAHAN KERING
The various forms of crises that have occurred at national and regional scale have not yet been fully felt in the dry areas, particularly in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta Special Province. Interesting, these rural dry areas have been very resistant and flexible in facing the impact of the economic crisis. The major factor that has made this possible is self-reliance, which was triggered by the low degree of dependence on other places for various necessities. Most of the places provide them for themselves. As far as providing basic necessities are concerned, the rural community has not yet shown symptoms of anxiety. Some saving has actually been carried out, but there is not yet any sufficient evidence of drastic decline in quality and quantity. From the beginning of the economic recession until today, saving for general (public) benefit, especially in social issues – (communalism), which is usually difficult to establish, could be easily accepted with no resistance from the community. The prospect of the rural economic sector of the dry lands can be divided into two broad categories, that is the survivor sector, and the inferior sector. The survivor sector comprises of economic activities that will continue to persist even if there is no growth, like agriculture and animal husbandry. The inferior sector on the other hand, include those activities, which are not very effective in addressing the economic crisis, and even potentially risk vanishing, like industry, trade and service sectors. The biggest impact is however, more felt in the non- economic sector, particularly those to do with services like health and family planning
FAKTOR DEMOGRAFI DALAM STRATEGI ELEKTORAL PILKADA: PERSPEKTIF DARI LAPANGAN
Demographic analysis is an important part of electoral strategies. This paper will show that electoral candidates in Indonesian local elections intituitively make use of demographic mapping for formulating their electoral strategies to win the elections. However, they purposefully and selectively target only a set of particular demographic groups that provide them electoral gains while ignoring others. Religious, ethnic, and migrant divisions are seen as more important electorally than gender and rural-urban divisions. To mobilize these groups, they tend to develop non-policy-based or symbolic campaigns instead of formulating policy-based campaigns. As a result, in local elections, primordial issues are more prominent than policy issues. In the short run, demographic analysisis will stay as the main strategic electoral tool for these candidates. In the long run, however, this mode of analysis will have to compete against post-demographic modes of analysis that have started to gain traction among national and local politicians.
