    The alchymist's journal (variants for brass band)

    For brass band, duration 12 minutes. This piece was commissioned by Faber Music Band Consultant Paul Hindmarsh in 2001, with the support of the Brass Band Heritage Trust. It was premiered in January 2002 by Black Dyke Band under Nicholas Childs, as part of the Royal Northern College of Music Festival of Brass. A number of revisions have been made to the work since its original publication and a definitive new edition was prepared in 2015 ready for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, for which the work was selected as test piece. This piece was first performed on 24 September 2013 by the Pacific Trio: Adrian Hon Wai Poon (clarinet), Imma Setiadi (piano) and Michael Foyle (violin), at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London. A version for violin, cello and piano is also available; SPIKE (I) in this version was premiered on 11 September 2015 by Jieun Han (violin), Ji-Yeon Kim (cello), and Hye-in Wang (piano), at the Dream Forest Arts Centre, Seoul, Korea
