An invention on 'Solitude' [1998, rev. 1999]
For clarinet and string quartet, duration 8 minutes. This work was premiered on 8 April 1998 by Michael Collins (clarinet) and the Nash Ensemble in the Purcell Room, London. The revised version was first performed on 12 July 1999 by Mark van de Wiel (clarinet) and the Dante Quartet in the Pittville Pump Room, Cheltenham. This work was also performed at the BBC Proms, on 8 September 2008, by Mark Simpson (clarinet) and the Cavaleri Quartet. A recording by the Nash Ensemble (Richard Hosford, clarinet) is available on Black Box (BBM1065) see https://www.discogs.com/Mark-Anthony-TurnageNash-Ensemble-Music-To-Hear/release/10519333. It was premiered by the Nash Ensemble on 8 April 1998 in the Purcell Room, London.
