This piece was premiered on 2 December 2009 at Holywell Music Room, Oxford, by Mark Simpson (clarinet) and Vikingur Olafsson (piano).

Snapshots
For large ensemble, duration 3 minutes. This work was commissioned by the London Sinfonietta for Oliver Knussen's 50th birthday with generous support from the Royal Festival Hall and Anthony and Mary Mackintosh. It was first performed on 12 June 2002 by the London Sinfonietta conducted by George Benjamin, at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London. It has also been performed by Ensemble Modern, Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group and Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.

This work was commissioned by BBC Radio 3 for the BBC Symphony Chorus for the start of their 75th anniversary year. It was premiered on 19 January 2003 conducted by Leonard Slatkin at the Barbican Hall, London
Two vocalises
For cello and piano, duration 5 minutes. The two pieces are titled 'MacLaren's Farewell' and 'Vocalise.' This work was premiered on 17 December 2001 by Doris Hochscheid (cello) and Frans van Ruth (piano) at the Uilenburger Synagogue, Amsterdam.

The silver tassie
Tragi-comic opera in four acts, libretto by Amanda Holden after the play by Sean O'Casey, duration 120 minutes. This work was co-commissioned by English National Opera and Dallas Opera with funds provided by the Arts Council of England. It was premiered on 16 February 2000 at the London Coliseum Theatre by English National Opera conducted by Paul Daniel, with Gerald Finley (baritone); Sarah Connolly (soprano); Vivien Tierney (soprano) David Kempster (baritone); Leslie John Flanagan (bass-baritone); Mary Hegarty (soprano); Anne Howells (mezzo-soprano); John Graham-Hall (tenor); and Mark Le Brocq (tenor).
The Silver Tassie won the South Bank Show Award and the Oliver Award for Opera, and was shown on BBC2 on 30 April 2000.
