Theatre of attractions
For chamber ensemble, duration 22 minutes. Commissioned by the Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal and premiered on 11 March 2008. An extract from a performance by the Psappha Ensemble conducted by Nicholas Kok is available on YouTube (see the video tab below). Vecherinka for 6 pianos (in 5 hands)
For six pianos, duration 7 minutes. This is an arrangement of 'Vecherinka for two pianos (in five hands)' (see #1502 on this repository) commissioned by Piano Circus and completed in 2009.
It is based on the party scene from the first act of the composer's opera, The Overcoat (after Gogol). Vecherinka is the Russian word for party or festive gathering, and the five hands of the title refers to games or ‘hands’ of cards which take place during the party
Prelude
This piece for harpsichord took its inspiration from two well-known harpsichord pieces, one in C, the other in B flat and explores on the tonal ambiguity of adjacent major and minor triads. The first performance was given on 23 February 2020 by the composer at Wardown House, Luton and this revised version was made for the BBC broadcast on 10 August 2020
Danceries (set II) [version for brass band]
For brass band, duration 15 minutes.
This work was first performed on 29 January 2012 by the Fairey (Geneva) Band conducted by Frank Renton at the RNCM Festival of Brass, RNCM Concert Hall, Manchester.
