Devil's downfall
For large ensemble, duration 8 minutes.
This work was a collaboration between classical and folk musicians and was first performed in June 2005 by the Tacet Ensemble and the English Acoustic Collective at Crawley Folk Festival, Brighton.
This piece was first published by BMIC New Voices and remains a part of their collection
Shadow dancing
For solo percussion, duration 7 minutes. This work was commissioned by Richard Benjafield and has been performed by him at Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge and Dartington International Summer School

For flute, clarinet, piano, percussion, violin, cello, melodeon and fiddle. This work was a collaboration with folk duo Spiers and Boden and includes improvisation as well as a score. It was premiered on 29 November 2008 by the Tacet Ensemble with John Spiers (melodeon) and Jon Boden (fiddle) at Komedia, Brighton
Three screaming popes
For large orchestra, duration 15 minutes. This work was commissioned by the Feeney Trust for Simon Rattle and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. It was premiered on 5 October 1989 by the CBSO conducted by Simon Rattle at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, and has since been performed by major orchestras all over the world. Two recordings are available: by the CBSO conducted by Simon Rattle (see https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/7996180--british-composers-a-celebration), and by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra conducted by Donald Runnicles (see https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/7960452--rule-britannia). Singing a song in a foreign land
In this lecture recital, Norbert Meyn (tenor) and Robert Brewer (piano) performed a selection of songs composed by migrant musicians from Nazi-Europe who settled in Britain in the 1930s and 40s. The lecture told the stories of some of these musicians, and also reflected on the problems they encountered as well as the challenges their arrival posed for their British colleagues. Finally, with a view to what is going on in our world right now, it asked what we can learn from their experience about nationalism and protectionism and about the cultural significance of migration
Telarañas
For violin and cello, duration 11 minutes.
This piece is dedicated to Jakob Kullberg and Jack Liebeck, and was first performed on 21 November 2010 by Jakob Jullberg (cello) and Chouchane Siranossian (violin) at St Paul's Hall, Huddersfield.
