A comprehensive review of cyber security and current practices in global mining critical infrastructure

    No full text
The purpose of the study is to explore the reasons behind the low uptake of Information Security Management Standards (ISMS), Asset Management, and Business Continuity Plans despite increasing cyber threats to the mining sector. Mining companies need to modernize and automate to keep up with the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’, driven by disruptive technology, forcing systems and technologies to become more integrated, increasing cyber attack threats. To address this, we conducted a literature review analyzing the mining industry across various regions. The research is based on a qualitative analysis of diversified literature. The results highlighted factors behind the low uptake of ISMS standards: lack of regulatory requirements, low awareness of ISO/IEC 27001 standards, shortage of IT skills and expertise, lack of senior management engagement, and reliance on insurance to mitigate cyber threats. The results suggest mining companies are gradually realizing the potential consequences of cyber threats and are considering formulating a framework to protect the industry from cyber attacks.</p

People capabilities for successful hybrid agile project management

    No full text
In today's fast-evolving project management landscape, hybrid agile approaches have become increasingly prevalent. However, there is limited understanding of the people-related factors that contribute to team effectiveness in these environments. This study aims to address this gap by exploring the critical capabilities that foster successful teams in hybrid agile settings. Through qualitative interviews with nineteen agile project management practitioners, key themes were identified, including an agile mindset, cultural fit, openness to change, soft skills, and organizational support. These findings highlight the importance of these capabilities in navigating the complexities of hybrid agile methodologies. Ultimately, the study concludes that focusing on these people-centric factors can enhance team effectiveness and drive project success.</p

Keen to punish the Coalition this election? It’ll cost you!

    No full text
The Coalition may not be in its best shape, but when they were in power, most Australians were better off. We keep hearing about how Albo inherited all this debt and deficit, but it’s nonsense. By the time Albo moved into the Lodge, prices were already going up. As he lifted wages for unionised sectors, the false economy showed low unemployment (mostly government jobs) but inflation kept going up. One interest rate cut went straight into ever-increasing power bills. Nobody is better off

Home-based self-management for physically inactive individuals with mild walking disability after stroke:a randomised pilot study

    No full text
PURPOSE: To investigate the potential of a home-based self-management program to promote physical activity more than usual care at 3 and 6 months.METHODS: A Phase II pilot randomised trial with concealed allocation, blinded measurement, and intention-to-treat analyses. Twenty-four individuals who were physically inactive, had a stroke within the past six months, and had mild walking disability were recruited. The experimental group received six 60-minute sessions of home-based self-management and usual care over 3 months. The control group received one 60-minute educational session on stroke and usual care. Primary outcome was physical activity (steps/day) at baseline, 3 and 6 months. Secondary outcomes were cardiovascular risk, walking ability, depression, exercise self-efficacy, participation, and quality of life.RESULTS: No statistically significant difference between-group was found at 3 and 6 months. At 3 months, clinically meaningful between-group differences were found for physical activity (MD 1380 steps/day), self-efficacy (MD 2 points), and participation (MD 13%). At 6 months, clinically meaningful between-group differences were found in self-efficacy (MD 3 points) and participation (MD 11%).CONCLUSION: The lack of sustained improvement in physical activity suggests further studies should focus on enhancing self-efficacy and maintaining engagement in self-monitoring.REGISTRATION: Clinical Trials NCT05461976.</p

Hybrid tectonics:The digital, the analogue and the ethics of encounter

Boundaries are spaces of contestation and encounter. When considering contemporary architecture in the global South, particularly in Africa, these spaces of encounter are especially pronounced. There is a body of architectural work in Africa produced by architects who are crossing physical boundaries between the global North and the global South, and the boundaries between global and local ways of making; some of them have also begun to blur the boundaries between the digital and the analogue. Drawing on previous empirical research in Africa, and building on literature about deborderisation, hybridisation, and tectonics, the space of encounter is positioned as a necessary and productive one. Analysis of representative building case studies in three African countries shows how architects are combining global and local tectonics in an effort to engage with social, economic, and environmental limitations. This can be read as a conscientious objection to reckless technological production that is, at times, ignorant of both local conditions and the planetary resource limitations that the world is facing. This paper will argue that the shift towards the tectonic hybridisation of computational design and digital fabrication with the use of local materials, traditions, and skills can further contribute towards this engagement. It emphasises the importance of tectonic ethics as a prerequisite for more equitable forms of exchange and encounter when working across boundaries, and it demonstrates how hybrid tectonics is a potentially useful and transferable strategy to begin to address some of these limitations

The Effectiveness of Body Image Flexibility Interventions in Youth:A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis

    Get PDF
Prevention programs that focus on enhancing positive body image may improve health and well-being in young people. Body image flexibility is a promising prevention approach, although its application with youth has yet to be comprehensively investigated. This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of body image flexibility interventions among adolescents and emerging adults. There were 23 eligible studies (N = 2764, 91.3% female) published between 2004 and 2024. Random effects meta-analyses indicated that body image flexibility interventions led to immediate, g = 0.52 (13 studies, n = 1,045), and sustained, g = 0.27 (8 studies, n = 608, 1-week to 24-month follow-up) improvements in health outcomes and protected against adverse effects of body image threats, g = 0.33 (7 studies, n = 480), relative to no/minimal intervention controls. Improvements were largely attributable to reductions in body image concerns. Comparison with other evidence-based interventions, including cognitive and dissonance-based programs, suggested comparable effects. Randomized trials and universal programs demonstrated smaller improvements, and there was evidence of potential publication bias. Conclusions are thus limited by the quantity and quality of existing studies, with most focusing on emerging adult females. Recommendations are provided to address these limitations in future research and strengthen the reliability and generalizability of results.</p

Norms of Normative Commitment in Bangladesh

    No full text
Unique characteristics of emerging economy such as shortage of resources, power imbalances, social inequalities demand examining normative commitment in this context. Following the person-centric argument of commitment profiles claiming that an individual can have a combination of all three types of commitment at the same time, the study explores the states of normative commitment as an outcome of high/low affective and calculative commitment using four alternative models. Findings from survey data confirmed that normative commitment toward an organization is high when customers have higher affective commitment with any level (high or low) of calculative commitment. Supporting social identity theory, the findings confirmed that any level of affect help to initiate normative commitment toward an organization

Demand side management with wireless channel impact in IoT-enabled smart grid system

    No full text
Demand Side Management (DSM) is a vital issue in smart grids, given the time-varying user demand for electricity and power generation cost over a day. On the other hand, wireless communications with ubiquitous connectivity and low latency have emerged as a suitable option for smart grid. The design of any DSM system using a wireless network must consider the wireless link impairments, which is missing in existing literature. In this paper, we propose a DSM system using a Real-Time Pricing (RTP) mechanism and a wireless Neighborhood Area Network (NAN) with data transfer uncertainty. A Zigbee-based Internet of Things (IoT) model is considered for the communication infrastructure of the NAN. A sample NAN employing XBee and Raspberry Pi modules is also implemented in real-world settings to evaluate its reliability in transferring smart grid data over a wireless link. The proposed DSM system determines the optimal price corresponding to the optimum system welfare based on the two-way wireless communications among users, decision-makers, and energy providers. A novel cost function is adopted to reduce the impact of changes in user numbers on electricity prices. Simulation results indicate that the proposed system benefits users and energy providers. Furthermore, experimental results demonstrate that the success rate of data transfer significantly varies over the implemented wireless NAN, which can substantially impact the performance of the proposed DSM system. Further simulations are then carried out to quantify and analyze the impact of wireless communications on the electricity price, user welfare, and provider welfare.</p
